The Mirage is fantastic, and for the price too. Nothing short of a bargain.

For good scran check out Benihanas at the Hilton, bit off the strip but the monorail goes there (or taxi). Class experience and good to impress a bird. Not cheap but get what you pay for.

Anyone been the Golden Nugget? Staying there for 10 days in May.

I Know its off the strip but was just wondering how far in a taxi we are goign to be paying every night?

Also, what are the not to be missed nightclubs?

Trying to organise some sort of iteniary now so i don't end up just playing poker for 18 hours a day.

Nothing wrong with poker for 18 hours a day.

Clubs – downtown is a bit sparse in that area. They have a club called golddiggers that worth a look. Also head down toward El Cortez – there are some lively places down there. Pubs like hennesseys and Mickey Finz are ok. Further on you have the beauty bar and the griffin that get busy at night. Also near by (third street?) is Hogs and heifers..

The Bullpen at the back of Binions does a late night deal on a pitcher of beer and a pizza for 10 bucks.

Other food and drink – check out Main Street Station for its brew pub – good deals there – especially late night and good food. The breakfast buffet for about $8 sets you up for the day too.

Also the Chicago brewing co at four queens – good beer and food – place part of their bar upstairs overlooks the lightshow – worth a look at night.

Gambling wise check out El Cortez – and event he gold spike (evenings). Low table limits. Worth doing your gambling downtown to stretch the dollar.

Poker – nice room at the nugget but a bit tight on space. I refer Binions – more space. Both do some good tourneys. The evening binions one is verygood as is the 2pm weekend one.

El cortez has a space for poker – normally it’s a 1-3-6 spread limit game filled with people who only bet with pairs and above. Its not fast but good drink service and you can beat the rake. You might also get to Play with Jackie Gaughan – who bought the El Cortez from Bugsy Segal and still lives there! Legend!

La Bayou and mermaids absolutely rock for drink service and yard long margaritas. Never the classiest of places but very easy to get drunk there. Plus the bonus of a deep fried oreo at Mermaids!! Don’t go into the glitter gulch unless you like paying $10 for a bottle of bud and being hassled for private dances by skanks.

Safety. Anywhere from Main street station to el Cortez is pretty safe with plenty of security. Go beyond that on foot and the security isn’t there… just be aware.

Transport. Cabs to and from the strip will kill you. But they do have a decent bus service.
Check out http://www.rtcsouthernnevada.com/ for details. You can pick up a 5 or 30 days pass and use it unlimited. They have a new express service from downtown to new york new york (the WAX) . 15 to 20 minutes service – almost as quick as a cab but wayyyy cheaper. It uses the interstate. If you want elsewhere on the strip then go from downtown in the deuce – its not as quick but stops all up and down the strip. Afternoons and evenings it gets slow though.  might be better getting the wax to NYNY and the deuce back down the strip – or walk!! Don’t recommend walking between the strip and downtown. Its sketchy – especially after dark and theres nothing to see. Sightsee that bit on the top deck of the deuce.
There is one further bus service – the SDX (strip downtown express). It uses pretty much the same route as the deuce but has limited stops. You can get the schedules from the above website as pdf’s. I’ve downloaded them onto my phone to use. You could print them or go to the Bonneville transportation center (behind the nugget) for a copy of the routes.

Nothing wrong with using cabs if you pile out of a club on the strip late at night but you can stretch your budget by using the busses to get around most of the time.

I’m not the one to talk to about clubs… I’m gambling 18 hours a day!!

Finally if you like bbq get yourself to Ellis Island for 4pm (Ellis is a little casino that is on the corner of Koval and Flamingo – easily walkable from the strip – flamingo is between Bills and Ballys). You’ll have to wait if you get there for opening hour but you can pass the time at the bar drink their microbrew – some very good stuff. If you can’t wait for the bbq try the 24 hour place and get the steak special -$8 including a salad, sides and a beer!

10 days is a long time… just don’t try to do everything in day 1!! Have fun.

Looking at booking Vegas next month to go in October. Never been before as only just turned 21 so wondering whats the best way to go about booking it? Have thought of straight up going to a Thomsons trave agents and booking there but thinking that may be a bit pricey any tips on the best places to look online? Or also had the thought of just getting flights then checking into a hotel when we arrive.. Anyone done that before?

Seen on the threads about Vegas people getting like 11 nights at the Excalibru and Mgm etc including flights for around £600 cant seem to find anything like that myself online.

If you are going in October, just turning up and getting a room should be easy enough, if you plan to go in the summer months you may want to make sure the room is booked.

unless you can get a really good deal then do the flights and hotels seperately. if you go that route then try doing a few different hotels. maybe even do a weekend downtown to keep the hotels costs down

the only way to find out for sure is to price it out

Alright guys. I've never been to Vegas and was just wondering about a couple of things. Don't really feel like making me own thread. As you guys might know, Vegas is nicknamed Sin City.  Out of those 'sins', the one I'm most curious about is, well, I couldn't think of a witty way to phrase it so I'll just come out with it. Partaking in activities of an erotic nature with ladies who offer such services professionally (of which there are an abundance in Vegas - more so than most places in the world in fact. If you've been to Vegas you probably know that, too). I was wondering if any of you fellas did anything along those lines when you went there? Any tips on how to stay out of trouble etc?

If this kind of thing is considered inappropriate for discussion on RAWK then I apologise. Just ignore/delete this if so.

Ah Vegas

Went for one night on our way to Huntington Beach Cali, was incredible. Everyone I was with fell asleep around midnight, I stayed up from sunset to sunrise just exploring.

Sorry though, I have no suggestions on guiding you to a legal hooker. How long are you staying?

I love Vegas, been 3 times now. The 1st time I went with the lads we had all made plans to get to a lappies and spend 1 whole night there. It never happened. There is so much to do whilst your there that in the end we said we can do lappies in Liverpool and there's a lot more here we can't do in Liverpool so we just jibbed it and done loads of other stuff.

Been 3 times and not once been. The taxi drivers will try and get you to 'The Chicken Ranch' as they call it as they are on commision to get you there.

Believe it or not the 3rd time we went one of my mates got chatting to girl when he went for a smoke, she turned out to be a madam in a big Lap dancers in Reno and they kept in touch, eventually he moved over there and married her :)

“Well to be honest with you, I’ve not got a lot to say about David Haye apart from he’s not a proper fighter, is he? He’s basically a bit of a gay fighter as I’ve said. Nothing against gays, but if there was ever a gay fighter David Haye would be one. He showed nothing! He had all the talk beforehand and he went in there and acted like a bitch!"

Helicopter flight over the Hoover Dam and into the Grand Canyon landing for a champagne lunch then flying back over the strip as dusk sets is one of the best things I have ever done. Well worth the money.

Hired a Dodge Viper for a few hours, shot Uzi, MK47 and a few Smith and Wesson's in a range just off the strip.

Take in one of the cirque du soleil. Blue Man show at Luxor was good.

Each of the main hotels has its own show to see, defo worth reading up on about before you go to see reviews to decide which ones to try and get too. Then there is the stuff like Bellagio Fountains, Treasure Island pirate fight that are free shows.

Put it this way, you won't be bored. Try and do some good research as your doing now and you won't go wrong.

Seriously mate I went with my bird and everyday I was thinking - SHIT!!!!!

Vegas is like a having a plate of meat, a nice cold beer, watching the footy with your mates then with your pals getting into the nice car and having a laugh doing a bit of window shopping and then more footy & beers - It's a man's heaven.

My bird enjoyed it - all women will but when a place has casino's, food, beer, sport, women its crying out its a man's place.

It's so made for men that when you're with your bird blokes on the street will give you porno cards in front of your bird and say strip club. It doesn't matter if you're holding hands or kissing they're be giving you these dirty mens cards and telling you were fun could be.

The place is amazing.

Seriously mate - what do you what to know?

Where you staying?

I stay at the MGM but all the hotels are mint. Loads to do. The hotels are designed so you don't live them. No joke if you don't want to see daylight you don't have too - the hotel's have everythig including nightclubs.

I went to a show - I would take your bird to one. Loads of decent food places.

Its on the same side of the strip to the MGM - further north though. Flamingo is one of the original strip hotels - although whats there now bears little resemblance to its origins. Flamingo isn't the highest class joint around - can be expensive too, depending on room availablity. However its in a fantastic position -- mid strip and close to everything.

I wouldn't stay there.  For that price point, the Luxor is much nicer, at about the same location in the and is connected to Mandalay Bay indoors through a mall.  In my estimation, Mandalay Bay has one of the better collections of restaurants of any of the resorts in Vegas -- RM Seafood, Aureole, Fleur, etc.  It's also got Mix, which is a lounge and Alain Ducasse restaurant on the top of theHotel at Mandalay Bay, offering arguably the best view of the strip in Vegas.  It's a must-visit, IMO.

Check http://www.smartervegas.com/hotels.aspx for hotel deals.  I've gotten a suite at the MGM with free buffet for my entire stay for $49/night before.

Lucky to have been a few times now. I've also been with people in the group who are more outdoors kinds people, so in the interests of fairness - and to save some dosh - we also hired a car and within 30 miles or so is Mount Charleston where you can swap the casinos for a snowball fight, and Red Rock Canyon where old cave drawings were found from Native Americans.
http://www.vegas.com/attractions/outside_lasvegas/mountcharleston.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Rock_Canyon_National_Conservation_Area

Then you can get back to the 'rides' on the Stratosphere :D

If you are a group of guys (6 plus) then i would suggest getting table service at the top nightclubs. Otherwise you'll be queuing for ages and might have to bribe the promoters to get in.
But with table service you get bottles of vodka etc, which the ladies love... ;)

Personally i would always choose a hotel with a great pool. Mirage, Bellagio, Caesars...
