We know plenty out there who favour City winning over us. I'd argue there won't be a lot if neutrals this year.

If Seville played every game like that they wouldn't have a team left. That was more than taking a friendly too seriously. That was personal.

I honestly think it was a national pride thing over the CL semi.

I never knew Sevilla was in Catalunya?  ;D

Domestic games are always gonna be a tackle fest especially against the team you mention. They might take it up a notch just because they are playing the european champs. So you are right in saying it is not gonna be easier domestically.

What i should have mention that in proportion we can expect more % of our games in europe to be  physical  compared to the previous seasons (when compared to the premier league). We should not be expecting slower, tactical games like before as european teams are gonna come at us. It is just something we have to live with if we wanna create a dynasty in europe.

This is where we have to learn. I am not advocating that we dive and all that, but when teams start practicing their dark arts on us, we have to "ensure" that the referee has no choice but to card the opposition players early. Madrid are good in this....and we have to learn a wee bit from them.

We cannot rely on the refs to take stuff into their hands in europe. We either dish the same treatment back to their players or we "real madrid" a little bit.

Some of the old farts on here like me, will recall our run to the 84 final. Rushy was targeted by every team we played. His response when clattered was not to roll about or throw his arms, he just lay there like he was dead. Treatment time and the attention brought to the tackle highlighted the shithouse tackles. The refs were forced to take it seriously, and teams realised if they hit him once they were getting a card for it.  Maybe we should try this approach - no dramatics just lie there.

Just happy to hear that Larouci seems to have avoided any bigger injury, does anyone else remember Marc Pelosi? Some idiot from, I think, WBA broke his leg in injury time of a U23 match just as he was starting training with the first team. Chances are he wouldn't be in the 2nd tier of US football right now if it weren't for that injury.

Milly was fouled before their winner. How Banega didn’t get sent off is beyond me. Was pleased with Origi, Jones, Hoever again and Lewis today.
Onto next friendly, hope they live up to their first name 😂

Expect we may see a stronger team for 60 this one with subs on the hour. Hope to see Origi and Brewster, probably with Wilson alongside as our front three. Is Matip likely to play in this? Didn't see him against Seville until walking round the pitch after.

As a Portuguese follower of Sporting CdP I can with certainty say we are gonna roll them over... if it was a real game... in a pre-season friendly with diff teams each half who knows, that's not what what it's about, it's about seeing people, how they fit, which systems we can try so lets not get too worked up over these friendlies (bar injury causing c*nts from Sevilla)

Would these pre-season defeats have any negative impact on players minds, confidence, or winning mentality? Its only a preparations but god I hate loosing, even in 5-a side game with my mates. We have to beat Sporting otherwise I´ll start doubting our title prospects.

These matches are just a welcome break from the heavy training sessions Klopps team are putting them through, a small exercise in applying the work in the training ground against unknown opponents.

Pretty sure they don't give 2 shits about the results, just the performance.

I hate us losing anything too, but come on mate, this is pre-season. These are basically training sessions to build up fitness. I don't know how old you are but I'm old enough to remember us in our pomp and we were often abysmal, results wise, in pre-season games and often lost them, only to lay waste to the rest of the league once the real stuff kicked off in August.

We turn up when it counts. At the moment we are using about a hundred players per game, playing the kids and some of our big guns are still on holiday. Personally, I hate the way pre-season kickabouts are now pored all over and analysed to death as thought they were cup finals.

We will be ready to go when it matters. Don't be worrying.

I think talk of the pre-season ruining our title challenge is exaggerated but no question it would not be ideal to lose every match over there so I do think this next match should not be taken lightly by the fans. No one will convince me that our upcoming season would not be better if we won all 3 of those matches rather than lose them, however little they matter. And to be a little more cynical, we are over there for marketing reasons and it's a bad look to fucking lose every time we play.

Fans shouldn't see it as anything more than a glorified training session (although for the overseas fans such friendlies are a rare chance to see the team live), I doubt friendlies were seen as anywhere near as important as they are today back when they first started.

Nobody gives a shite. Nothing result wise we do in the pre-season matters for the upcoming season. The only thing that matters is that the players get sharper, fitter, and that they stay healthy. It would be best if you kept in mind that they are doing two or three sessions a day before playing the match. Once the season starts that won't be the case. And we obviously won't be making 11 changes a half.

The fact that needs to be said is perplexing all together.

It used to be a joke with me and my mates when we were kids in the 70s and 80s at if Liverpool started winning preseason friendlies we were in for a rough season ahead, because we had peaked too soon.
Shanks and Bob used to murder the lads preseason (sweat the ale out :) ) and then have them playing small sided drills to keep them fresh for their 2games a week season.

The game is more physically demanding in some ways today, but the same logic applies, we want them to hit full fitness about half time in the Charity Shield, and carry through to the first game in brilliant sunshine where we smash the opponent.

By the way who are we playing in the first league game, I honestly haven’t  bothered looking, too busy counting to 6  :)

Someone on here once said that friendlies should just be announced in the paper the day after, not even broadcast on television. Just a short summary of the match.

Ah every time I see that assault on Larouci my blood boils. Utter shit house.

Me too. That meathead is an utter c*nt, at exactly the right club for him.

Imagine booting a teenage boy in the legs, completely blindsiding him from behind. All because he's chosen to play football to the whistle, and is trying to build a career.

As the old saying goes, you don't wish injury on a player. But if there's any kind of merit/karma system, then that twat can have no complaints if he has his career ended prematurely by a shocking challenge this season. Might sound harsh, but it's what he's tried to do so he can have no complaints.

Difference for him is he'd be insured by his club and on professional wages, so probably financially safe for a while if it happened. If seriously injured, Larouci could conceivably go the way of many youngsters injured at the wrong time and fail to make it.
