I wanted them to get Atletico, imagine the literal kicking Atletico would have given them.  ;D But of course they get one of the easiest draws possible.

Some good ties. Real vs Ajax should be good, and Spurs vs Dortmund too. It's time for Pochettino to do something in Europe having not really impressed there so far.

I actually wasn't in with the 'hope they get Atletico' crowd, cos they seem to deal easily with teams who sometimes don't want to play football!

Schalke are a snidey team, so at least they may kick them a bit  ;D But then City are snidey as hell too. They just get away with it.

Yeah Spurs vs BVB is interesting. Last time they played a knockout vs them, Pochetinno was a coward using the 'concentrate on the league' as an excuse for putting out weakened teams. But he has to do something in Europe now like you say, so has to go for it.   Dortmund will get a nice winter break to, recharge the batteries, and will be firing even more than now by the time this comes around.

You can only beat what’s in front of you ;)

Thing is, they haven't beaten Ajax. Was two draws.

I can see Spurs winning 2-2 at home but losing by a few goals in Dortmund.
How do you win 2:2 at home?

Robert Lewandowski has 22 goals in 22 games this season, whatever you think of Bayern's form, this man is still the goal machine he's been for a long time.

Be a good challenge for Virgil and Gomez, big Dej or Matip in the first leg I guess!, one that they I am sure will relish.  One he will relish too.

Lewandowski is a machine, and Ribbery and Robben can still produce moments of quality. They are good in the attacking third, however they are atrocious defensively against quick transitions and counters

It will be a tough fixture especially if we are still in contention with City at the time and with Van Dijk out for the first leg.

VVD will be suspended for the first game which will be a massive loss. But Lovren can rise to the occasion. I hope. He has before for big games.

Apart from City getting a free pass into the next round of course, surprise surprise  ::)

Precisely why finishing top of the group is so important.

If we played them today we’d absolutely destroy them. Unfortunately the game is months away so it means fuck all. Regardless of form or injuries we’ll be up for it like we always are.
Time to put this draw back on the shelf until next year and now start to kick on in the league.

VVD is a loss but with us playing at home 1st makes it easier to take.

Lovern steps up in most games now. He was quality again yesterday.

Sat 16th Feb  FA Cup 5th round
Tue 19th Bayern (h)
Sat 23rd  MU (a)

Sat 9th Mar Burnley (h)
Wed 13th Bayern (a)
Sat 16th Fulham (a)

All those PL fixtures can/will be moved for TV, but that's not the worst schedule at all. Bunch of mid-to-lower table teams either side of the big games.

Not watched much, if any, Bayern games this season. I did see the highlights of the  5-1 v Benfica. And there he was, cutting inside onto his left and smacking it in the corner. Twice. Amazing how he still finds the time and space to do it when every defender in the world knows what he’s about to do.

We're slight favourites, but still have to get the job done. Still, between 2007 and 2009 we knocked Barcelona, Inter and Real Madrid out in successive years at this stage.

The Bayern of two years ago would've been extremely intimidating, but they are in a major generational shift right now and struggle to find their way without investing the big bucks on players. I would say Dortmund most likely winning the Bundesliga this year is still a one-off, but internationally Bayern will find it harder and harder to compete in the coming years, given that today signing a 24 year old Ribéry would cost close to if not more than £100 mil, something they're not willing to spend, even though they have a very good revenue.

No Virgil against Lewandowski at Anfield is a bit of a worry though. That being handled and normal service resumed up front, my prediction would be 2-0 at home and 1-1 in München.

its uncanny for sure!

He's had his injury woes in recent seasons though, so I guess we wait and see how fit he is by then, but even at this stage of his career, he still pops up with that move and with the goals.  I was saying beore that I don't think Bayern will make massive changes in the winter window, but if they make one, getting a winger / forward who can play on that right side may be a move they make.  Although Serge Gnabry is showing every week that he is ready for the big time!
