Still can't believe they paid Aston Villa nearly £40m for Milner and Barry. Very average players.

I kinda hope City win the FA Cup as it will probably keep Mancini in a job. City would be extremely dangerous if they had a manager with ambitions of actually winning the league.

To be fair To City, nothing they've ever done is as stupid as Madrid selling Sneijder and Robben to get Kaka. Talent spotting is a tough science and all you can do is play the odds.

I still think they should have gone for Capello after the World Cup. He'd have had them competing for the league no doubt. Mancini is no better than Hughes result wise.

A team who want to win big but its just a dream.

They have a great spine with Hart - Kompany - Kolo - Silva - Yaya - Tevez.

They need to build around this, they have around 50 first team players on their books their wage bill was must pushing 2 million a week.

The owners may be wealthy but they want to see Silverware in the trophy cabinet and will buy anyone they want or manager wise as money talks.

Manchester Manchester City remind me of Chelsea when Roman Ambrovich came in and they made some horrendous buys like Ben Haim, Del Horno, Kezman, Mutu later crack head the list goes on.

If Manchester City actually scout players and build a team around the spine with a mixture of youth as I'd hate to be a youth player at Manchester City you would never get a look in but get paid 20k a week probably.

If they end the season 4th and with a Cup-win, I'd say this has been a more than decent achievement by Mancini, seeing that some of them still don't know most of their teammates. Besides that, obviously you can't sympathize with them because of all of the absurd spending, but I kinda love watching them play. Especially Silva though, the first touch, technique and vista on that man is exquisite.

Edin Dzeko - £25m (1 goal in 12 games)
Gareth Barry - £18m (Puts a decent shift in but £18mil for a half decent CM, really?)
Emmanuel Adebayor - £25m (Half a decent season, bench warmed then loaned out)
Roque Santa Cruz - £18m (Played about 9 games, loaned out)
Wayne Bridge - £12m (Was OK for a bit then went really shit, loaned out.
Lescott - £24m (Been mostly decent but has had some shite games, again £24mil?)
Craig Bellamy - £16m (Cities POTS last year, but £16mil? Now loaned out due to Mancini)
Shaun Wright-Phillips - £10m (Shite, done fuck all)
Jo - £19m (See above)
Robinho - £32.5m (Half decent first season, shite 2nd. Sold for about a £12mil-£15mil loss)
Ben Haim - £7m (Shite)

Total - £181.5m

Didn't include Milner as £12m + Ireland ain't bad considering how bad Ireland is.

Agree with Ryba, It's not  hard to see why they're so bad is it? They spend All that money and still lean on Tevez.

Thats not accounting for the wages?

Well, the sheik has lots more of those dosh...coming out from the ground...at $120 pb.....methinks he will go for Messi soon

I'm still not buying ( ;) ) into this whole Man City are fantastic, as a team or on an individual basis. Their only players I rate are Tevez, Balotelli (when he switches on), Johnson, Kompany, Hart, Given, Yaya-ish and perhaps surprisingly Boateng. And before it's mentioned, I don't rate Silva.

i can't understand how you don't rate silva, he's an excellent footballer. he's got great vision, a good touch, good movement and a good football brain. his first year in english football has been a success and to me i find it difficult to understand how someone can't rate him as a footballer.

When he first came on the scene at Valencia I loved him, the last few years though his appeal to me has dwindled. To be honest I probably should have said I don't rate him as highly as a lot of people do.

Breaking down where they've spent (purely IMO)

Wasted Money

Jo    £18,000,000
Roque Santa Cruz    £17,500,000
Gareth Barry    £12,000,000
James Milner    £26,000,000
Joleon Lescott    £22,000,000
Robinho*    £32,500,000
Wayne Bridge    £12,000,000
Tal Ben-Haim    £5,000,000
Aleksandar Kolarov    £17,000,000
Kolo Toure   £16,000,000
Craig Bellamy*    £14,000,000
Shaun Wright Phillips    £9,000,000
Emmanuel Adebayor*    £25,000,000

Total = £237 Million

*None of these are 'bad' players, but the return from them was far too small for the money they cost.

Jury still out

Edin Dzeko    £27,000,000 (Not been great so far, but waiting till the end of next season)
Mario Balotelli    £24,500,000 (Not been great so far, but waiting till the end of next season)
Adam Johnson    £7,000,000   (Great young English talent, but blows hot and cold a lot for them)
Pablo Zabaleta  £6,500,000 (Not shite, but seen him have both great and very poor games)
Jerome Boateng  £11,000,000 (Don't rate him, but giving him the benefit of the doubt)

Good signings

Yaya Toure    £24,000,000
David Silva    £25,000,000
Carlos Tevez    £25,500,000
Nigel De Jong    £16,000,000 (Ridiculous fee for someone with 6 months left on their contract though)
Vincent Kompany    £6,700,000

Proof that taking the FM approach and throwing money at the problem doesn't guarantee success.

Going to be interesting to see if they stick with their other strikers when Tevez leaves.

For the price their other strikers have cost them (Dzeko £27 Million, Balotelli £24.5 Million, Jo £18 Million) they've all been ridiculously shite so far.

If Johnson and Zabaleta were Liverpool signings no one on here in their right mind would say they were anything but good. Bit overly critical having those two in the jury still out. Less than £14m for the pair is very good business.

I think Johnson is over-rated on here to be honest. So many people say "why doesn't he get into Manchester City's team more often?" but there's a good reason. He has some highlights that look brilliant, but a lot the time he's bloody anonymous for them. You're probably right about him being good business for his potential compared to the price they paid, but so far when he's been good them on the pitch, it's been in a few specific games. A few diamonds surrounded by a lot of turds.

I don't think I'm being over-critical about Zabaleta either. He's not a bad player and he didn't cost them mega bucks, but I've watched games where he's been terrible. I've seen him be brilliant too, but I've seen him play for them like a wooden statue playing right back. Where he's had one pace and been beaten again and again for fun. I'm still not sure which is the real Zabaleta to be honest.
I'm really hoping Sturridge busts out the wacky dip when he scores.

Will be watching tonight, and hoping that City do what traditionally they've been good at - Fcuking things up.  A Spurs win will do for me.

Hope they get the FA Cup, just so the idiots over at OT have to take that stupid banner down.  But the celebrations take their mind off the last two games, and either two defeats or a draw and a loss will make me a very, very happy person.

It's nearly unthinkable, but the team and Kenny are giving me something to believe in!!!!

We may have only the tiniest chance of finishing fourth, but City would definitely be one of the most likely teams to bottle it in this situation, after Arsenal.

They'll probably win tonight now that I've said that.

Should be interesting to see how they spend in the summer. Clearly the owner won't be happy they only have fourth and especially so if they lose out of the FA Cup to Stoke. Either way they will probably spend big again, too much expensive shite in the squad that needs replacing. I reckon that Mancini needs replacing if they are to unleash the potentil they hold with an ambitious winning mentality manager.

Wouldn't be surprised if they put a bid in for Messi.

Jo was signed before the Shiekhs were there or very early in their takeover because it was all Frank Sinatra I think.

You cannot compare City to what Liverpool and Benitez had done, Liverpool had a great squad before he was there, we were a borderline mid-table team and needed big investment to improve. And its obvious that we are going to be paying inflated prices simply due to the money we have.

Yes we have signed some wrong players but how do you know they are going to be good or bad without signing them? Hindsight is a beautiful thing.

And Dzeko has scored 5 goals.

If they spend mentally again this season and get a half decent manager in then he might be right that they will challenge.

But you'd expect the league to improve next season. This season has been abysmal from everyone.

You would think mega-wealthy owners would take a look at Real Madrid before opening their blank cheque books for the latest must have name/reputation.

Over the years thay have acted as proof, if any was needed, that names don't necessarily make a team or bring you success.

Milner was the Young Player of the Year when he signed. Haven't been great for us.

Roy Hodgson was LMA Manager Of The Year when he signed for us. Take those awards with a grain of salt, very pro-Ingurland and not always deserved
