There would be an election for shadow leader...

What difference would it make?

I meant in the context of trying to send some kind of distress call to the membership (though it likely fall on deaf ears) that the party is dying the death of a thousand paper cuts under Corbyn's control and that they need to wake up to the reality of the situation.

As Classycara says, he wont; but as things stand the party is about to be engulfed by a fresh wave of infighting where its leader and deputy leader will be at loggerheads.

I guess the road to Hell truly is paved with good intentions...

This has been my thinking for a long time. It's extremely upsetting but it's for the best that Labour is wiped out and something new is able to replace it. Personally I wish socially liberal, pro-Europe, pro-business politicians had formed their own new party after the Brexit vote - David Miliband, Nick Clegg, Ken Clarke etc. There were enough big beasts who were more or less totally aligned on the big issues to really challenge this whole shambolic process and possibly replace Labour as the sensible voice in British politics. Alas not.
honestly think the ones with any sense and have the bollocks to fight brexit should defect to the lib dems and unite as a pro EU party, hopefully enough to ruin the Labour Party and leave just the dickheads left holding the bill whilst the proper politicians worry about real shit

Jeremy's calling for unity behind him. Suspect he's missed the part where "thinking about the people" involves thinking about what another Tory government following Brexit will look like.

Thornberry at her best - some waffle about an old woman having her breakfast.

She can't escape the elephant in the room. People respond to the policies. There's general agreement in the party over policy. The Tories are a disaster. So what's the reason for the party being in the shite Emily?

The clues are the letters J and C.

Fucking hell:

Jeremy Corbyn has come in as Labour members’ second favourite leader of the party in its history, according to polling.

The poll asked members to choose up to three of Labour’s leaders as their favourite. Clement Attlee came in top with 45 per cent of the vote but only 5 per cent behind him was the party’s current leader on 40 per cent. John Smith was third with 31 and Harold Wilson fourth on 28 per cent.

Fact of the matter is, a lot of people have bought into the arguments for Corbyn's leadership. They aren't the hard leftists and Trots who make up the truly hardcore of his support but they're still numerous. The likes of Owen Jones and George Monbiot have fed them utter bollocks about "the Overton window" and "shifting the debate" and they've lapped it up, genuinely believing there's an army of uber Bennites out there who've been waiting their entire lives for a "true" socialist party to emerge.

Of course, sensible people realise that basing an electoral strategy around people who don't vote is fucking lunacy. It's the logic of political kindergarteners, the same types who believe millions of people voted for David Cameron because they wanted Ed Miliband to be more left wing. But these people still exist.

They may have voted for Corbyn in good faith. In the genuine belief he'd shift the nation leftwards and give "hope" to the masses. But they were wrong. Blatantly wrong. So painfully wrong it feels almost sadistic to point it out. Sure, they voted for him to get a better society. But they are, just as much as the Tories, responsible for dragging us over the edge.

Side with Corbyn and you are responsible for Brexit. You are responsible for grammar schools. You are responsible for slashes to welfare and you are responsible for the NHS crisis. You are responsible for robbing the young of the future they always thought they'd have, had their grandparents not decided to kick the bloody forners aht.

Seriously. Wake up. Fucking wake up and smell the coffee.
"My idea was to build Liverpool into a bastion of invincibility. Napoleon had that idea and he conquered the bloody world! And that's what I wanted; for Liverpool to be untouchable. My idea was to build Liverpool up and up and up until eventually everyone would have to submit and give in."

So the Tories have a bad week and Tom Watson finds a way to help them out.

Strange a year ago he said momentum were a rabble and were insignificant.

This is nothing to do with momentum. Hes trying to change the result of the Unite vote that starts on Friday.

And of course the number of MPs needed to get someone to stand for leader.

Cant believe I voted for the twat to be deputy leader.

Fuck you..... you snake in the grass cant wait to vote for Len when my ballot paper arrivals.

Yep. Just more platitudes. No actual policies.

8. CUT INEQUALITY IN INCOME AND WEALTH

We will build a progressive tax system so that wealth and the highest earners are fairly taxed, and shrink the gap between the highest and lowest paid.

We will act to create a more equal society, boost the incomes of the poorest and close the gender pay gap.
Pledge no. 8. 18 months in and Jeremy is still talking about what will happen and what he will deliver at some unspecified time in the future.

What the details of the "progressive tax system"?
How much will it raise?
What about legal tax avoidance?
What about tax havens?
What about corporations?

It's way past time to put some meat on these bones and get beyond "wouldn't it be nice if everything was nice".

And of course, Jeremy does nothing to address exactly why passions were running high and instead gives us some waffle about two hundred kids doing his job.

Last three elections?

Maybe you're just projecting Labour's future under Corbyn.

Yes Labour lost the last two elections. 2010 to a hung parliament and in 2015 hit by the impact of Scottish Nationalism despite being level in the polling.

So what exactly is your point? Labour didn't win elections with Brown and Ed Milliband - ok that's true. If Corbyn is a better option the Party should be riding high under his leadership. Corbyn however has managed to take Labour to new levels of unpopularity as a party and surpassed that (negatively) with his personal popularity.

What kind of bizarre logic points to two results that weren't great but were far better than anything your man seems capable of achieving? It's whataboutery to an Olympic standard. Are you proud at his utter shitness?

If your neighbour's goldfish died maybe you look at the reasons why. You don't take a dump in the bowl.

You're quite right in one sense. You just need to wait until 2030 to say it. Because that's the earliest Labour will be capable of even mounting a credible challenge as things stand, much less be seen as a viable alternative.
