We did 12 in the equivalent fixtures last season, lost to Spurs.

City took 13, drawing with Palace their only blemish.

If we want to win the league this season then we can probably only drop points in about 10 games. Something like 28 wins, 6 draws and 4 defeats would see us reach 90 points which would hopefully be enough to win the title unless City have another freakishly good year. Over the course of the season that means dropping points, very roughly, a maximum of once every 4 games. We should be looking to take a minimum of 12 points from this first block of 5 if we want to start off in title winning form with anything more setting us up very nicely indeed. All that said, I'll hope for 15 but I'd be happy with the following:

West Ham (H) - 3
Crystal Palace (A) - 3
Brighton (H) - 3
Leicester (A) - 3
Tottenham (A) - 1

Matches are never easy at the beginning of the season. But this time around, I have a very good feeling... The defence looks properly settled, the midfield looks fit and creative, and Salah, Firmino and Mané are already scoring. The first four matches are all winnable, if we do slip up, I hope it is away and not at home. The big matches were a bit disappointing last season, but I think our luck will change this season.

West Ham (H) - 3
Crystal Palace (A) - 1
Brighton (H) - 3
Leicester (A) - 3
Tottenham (A) - 3

Agree with the earlier post saying we need to target 90. Will be hard, but plausible.

Fancy us to be comfortable in both the home games in this bunch of 5, but Palace is always a scrap and Spurs will be very tough - pretty sure it's their first home fixture too. Think Leicester may be a bit more vulnerable this year.

I'll go with:

West Ham (H) - Comfortable win
Crystal Palace (A) - Hard fought win
Brighton (H) - Comfortable win
Leicester (A) - Professional win (2-0)
Tottenham (A) - Hard fought draw

13/15 = 2.6 ppg = 98.8 points over a campaign. Insane that City bettered this. Insane.

Will be a huge challenge to win the title

Hopefully 13 at least, but 11 or 12 would be not bad at all. 10 a bit sketchy and beneath that not good enough to challenge for the league. As for how it would play out, I think Leicester and Spurs games are "either way" games. There could easily be a loss at Leicester followed by a Salah or Mané goal to snatch a winner on the break at Spurs too. Palace away is a tricky one as well, but of course needs to be won.

If we get good consistent refereeing then I honestly think 15 points.
If we get the usual standard then 12 or 13

13 points. Probable draw at Spurs, but we might be surprised as a draw could come anywhere. Still, I’m going for 13 points from the first five games and the mighty reds to be top after five games.

Haven't a clue. I can see West Ham having a decent season, ditto Palace, Leicester are always trouble, Brighton will also improve this season and Spurs will have a settled team with all their players back up and running as well as playing their first match at new stadium etc etc ... That's the trouble with thinking about things.

Actually I think it's going to be a much more competitive league all around. Wolves, Brighton, Palace, Fulham, Everton, Burnley, Leicester I fancy to stiffen up the mid table.

Anyway I think we will get a hard fought 3 points, 2-1 West Ham
Same for Palace 1-2
Brighton 3-1
Leicester likewise 1-2
Spurs 2-2

13 points would be fantastic.

Reckon we will win the first four games, and have a nice break for the internationals with 12 points in the bank, then we can begin to plan for the Next block of games.

My Predictions are:

West Ham (H) - 3
Crystal Palace (A) - 3
Brighton (H) - 3
Leicester (A) - 3
Tottenham (A) - 0

I can't see a draw between us and Tottenham. We'll lose the first one against them away but we'll smash them 6-1 the return leg at home.

2008/09?

We didn't win our first 5 that season as we drew two of them, but we were unbeaten in the league for ten games with the last five of those being wins.

To be honest we're probably going to need at least 13 - looking at Man City's fixtures, the next time they play anyone is against us on October 7th.

Every fucking game is a cup final and a must win because City will probably be coming to Anfield Oct 7 with maximum points. We have to keep pace and City dont play anyone until us. I could maybe see City maybe drawing a game after a champions league game in September though i doubt it. Its crazy that we have to win probably 14 to 16 wins out of 19 both home and away to have a chance of the league. Last season we won 12 and drew 7 at home for 43 points. This season i would rather lose a couple of games at home and go 17 wins and 2 losses for 51 points for the 8 extra points. The bottom line is we have to take at least 4 points off City and we need the rest of the league to grow a pair and have a go at City or they are going to win at least 30 league games again.
