from there i remember sunderland away was our 7th win in a row from the start of the season

itv used to host some sports thing at 5. me and me brother had it on. music started and it showed kenny smiling, narrator says" they had 6 wins from 6, ITS NOW 7" huge cheers from me and me brother

limassol i remember little about it, wasnt on the telly. think paul stewart was sent off

west ham i think lee jones missed an open goal, collymore had a bottle of water thrown over him when he scored


the wigan one i was at a wedding. absolute boss of a day. free bar all day. it was my cousin who i hadnt seen since i was a baby.
was in nuneaton. got to the church and just spent the whole service tryna stop laughing at my brother impersonating the church singers. we got to the hotel and a frank sinatra singer was belting out the hits before dinner.

my cousin came up with the idea of just putting everyone at random tables. i ended up with another cousin which wasnt so bad but i dont think my brother knew anyone at his table. he kept texting me for scores. i was waiting for them off a mate. was delighted to hear of yossis goal. the match ended 1-0. had my brother in suspense. so eventually up at the bar again
"yeah was 1-1, last minute *shit think of a name, think think* errrrr Agahowa scored"

kept it up for half an hour. i got some other scores sent my way. Portsmouth beat reading 7-4 that day which was kinda surreal.

after half an hour of my brother going "i cant believe we bottled it today, any other scores"

he read down through them "hang on, these arent results, it says its 1-0 to us"

me "yeah i know" i smiled. he knew now what the score was.

it was a great day, had a good mix internationally. all us from ireland and relatives from england. my cousin was marrying a guy from new zealand while her father was married to one of my dads sisters. (ie my uncle, he was born in india)

unfortunately he died around march 2009. the night was a mix of all things good about your country, irish dancing, karaoke, bollywood and the new zealanders did a bit of the haka with the rugby world cup on. unfortunately some of them got a little drunk. one new zealander thought it would be a great idea to harrass a younger cousin of mine from Australia. She was a good looking girl but off limits to anyone related or not. the poor girl was only 15. as she was getting her taxi back to the hotel one kiwi thought it would be great fun to wave her off by taking his dick out as she left. needless to say no one was impressed

but it didnt ruin a great weekend. was much better than two years later when fiorentina took us apart. the beginning of the end for rafa imo but thats another story

My first ever trip to Anfield! Was very nearly my last trip too given the scoreline. I remember nothing about the game itself (I was 5) apart from being sat in the Anny Road (baiting the away fans I’m sure). In fact the one vivid memory of going to this game was getting stuck behind a Sheffield Wednesday supporters’ coach as we got close to Anfield and seeing their fans on the back row spotting by impish young face, the scarves out of my Dad’s Cortina window, and deciding what better way to mark the occasion by collectively pulling moonies. 4 big fat South Yorkshire arses squashed up against the glass. Ah, football.

RIP Shanks too. I’m too young to remember that day, I can only remember the footage of local new reporters telling people and seeing the disbelief and denial in their faces. What a man.

Ah yes, how could I forget? Was looking like 'one of those afternoons' before that. Great goal, I remember shouting 'not another bloody turn' before he slotted it home. Like the man but he didnt half love taking one touch too many at times.

Day after Shankly's death.  A very emotional occasion, this.  Bizarrely, given the attendance, the queues to get in were ridiculous.  Lots seemed to turn up to pay tribute to Shanks, and many of the turnstiles were closed.  Ended up missing the first 15 minutes (which would happen again at home to Swansea a few days later). 

The game itself was a one-sided, largely unmemorable affair, redeemed only by Ian Rush's first goal in a red shirt.  Oddly it's about the only specific recollection of the match I have - typical Rush, darting to the front post to meet a low cross and divert it past the keeper. 

Off the field, the atmosphere was raw and mournful.  The whole game was played out to a succession of songs for Shankly, with the 'Amazing Grace' one going on for what seemed like the whole second half.  The other one that sticks out in my mind is a defiant rendition of 'There'll Never Be Another.'

A moving occasion, where the action on the pitch served largely as a diversion from the communal outpouring of grief and shock on the terraces.

I like this thread; I enjoy looking back at our previous games. Memories good and bad.
Having said that, the 0-0 draw with Celtic, was pretty dire.
The Newcastle game I think Riise hit a cracker, and Murphy's goal followed a great one two with Fowler. 10 years ago, fucking hell.

He gave out his usual cry of "COME ON THE BLUES, LET'S HAMMER THE REDSHITE" followed by, "ah well it's only a Mickeymouse cup" after the final whistle.

I'd forgotten about this match and the circumstances, thanks for reminding me Billy. I was locked out as well, and was pissed off that Liverpool couldn't be arsed paying a few turnstile operators, this was the start of me getting disillusioned with football, sad day all around.

Had there been more, I am sure we would have bumped into them at some stage of our trip. Two of our group travelled across the North Sea to Gothenburg; myself and three others went the long way round by train through Holland, Germany, Denmark and Sweden before eventually arriving in Oslo on the morning of the match some thirty-six hours after we had left London on the Sunday evening. We were away for five nights, four of which were spent on trains or boats with only one being in a small Oslo hotel the night after the match. The journey back was endless and included the roughest crossing of the North Sea I ever had the misfortune to experience. I finally got home sometime on the Friday afternoon. The next day Liverpool were playing away at Carlisle. I woke up but stayed in bed. My travelling for that week was definitely over!

BIG TIME mate.
We went to various different matches together.
The stand out was the 89 final for obvious reasons.
We both got leathered together win lose or draw (usually a win for us    )  afterwards as well.

Love our Mick to death, but we tend to stay out of each others way for a week before and after a Derby, these days.
Which is very sad, I must say.

I was one of only 6 supporters who travelled from England to see our Cup Winners’ cup match in Oslo on this day thirty-seven years ago. Had there been more, I am sure we would have bumped into them at some stage of our trip. What we did see though was hundreds of Norwegians wearing our colours and the first indication I had that we were so popular in Scandinavia. Jet Set Travel, based in the St. John’s precinct, originally planned to charter a plane out to Oslo from the north-west but it was cancelled because they couldn’t find enough people who wanted to book on it after the 11-0 first-leg home win in the middle of September. Two of our group travelled across the North Sea to Gothenburg; myself and three others went the long way round by train through Holland, Germany, Denmark and Sweden before eventually arriving in Oslo on the morning of the match some thirty-six hours after we had left London on the Sunday evening. We were away for five nights, four of which were spent on trains or boats with only one being in a small Oslo hotel the night after the match. The journey back was endless and included the roughest crossing of the North Sea I ever had the misfortune to experience. I finally got home sometime on the Friday afternoon. The next day Liverpool were playing away at Carlisle. I woke up but stayed in bed. My travelling for that week was definitely over!

October 2nd doesn't appear to have been one of our greatest dates. The 0-0 against Arsenal was a dire affair as the Gooners just put everyone inside their own area for 90 mins. I can't recall who the ref was at Villa in 1999, but he sent Steve Staunton off for two bookings that made Rodwell's ridiculous red yesterday look justified!!! Even John Gregory said it was poor.

Went to both legs of the final against Everton, and the home leg of the semi against Norwich (probably because we got presented with the League that night!). Gave the early rounds a miss though as I was one of 'Maggies Millions' at the time.

Same games for me mate.  I was a penniless student.  This was back in the day when students were genuinely penniless rather than just having expensive clobber and huge debts.

Went to both legs of the final against Everton, and the home leg of the semi against Norwich (probably because we got presented with the League that night!). Gave the early rounds a miss though as I was one of 'Maggies Millions' at the time.

I went to those three game as well, probably what summed up how badly organised the tournament was the three months between the two legs against Norwich the first leg was in February and the 2nd leg in may.

My abiding memory of the 2nd Leg at Goodison was it taking about half an hour to get out of the Park end, there simply wasn't enough exits and we ended up getting pushed from side to side trying to get to the exits.
