One Man's Mission to X $44 billion Goodbye
« on: March 2, 2009, 10:43:59 pm »
What the fuck is that all about.
I've heard a couple of people wanking themselves silly about it over weekend, and I wondered what it's all about.
Is it just another FuckFacebook/MySpace/Bebo load of shite or what?

I know a certain organisation, and I won't name names, that use it as their first line of gauging how their site is performing.  Completely shocking.

Them: 'Our site isn't working/slow'
Me: 'Oh?  How was this diagnosed?  Any url?  All urls? Give me a url and some diag, what kind of connection are you on?'
Them: 'Well, I'm not sure on that, but lots of people on twitter say it is'

Its alright, a very powerful tool that a lot of people are starting to get. I even believe LFC.tv are starting to 'tweet'.

Hopefully it won't happen again for a long, long time, but next time something like 9/11 happens, it's when you're thankful twitter exists.

That probably looked like it made no sense, but I was convinced after watching how twitter helped with the plane crash the other week in Holland.

How did it?

OK I've done a bit of reading. Am I right in saying it's sort of block SMS sending service?. I.e you write a message such as 'had sausage and mash for dinner' or 'just been arrested' or 'It's OK I'm not hurt' and it immediately goes out to your whole list of followers who read the message either on their phones or computers.

Is that right? Anything else?

It'd be quite handy if your mates all twittered which pub they're in. It'd be a great way to quickly see who's out to have a pint with.

I went on vacation recently and had a bunch of friends who wanted me to text them how it was going, and send pics etc. etc.

And instead of sending a group SMS, or sending individual ones, I created a twitter account and told them to just check in to the website whenever they wanted.

It worked really well, and best part is that now I have a track of my vacation online for when I want to go back to it.

Twitter was the reason the families and friends of an American film crew in Africa knew they were in trouble.

It's just a way to inform your friends of what you're up to. Or, you could tweet one thing a day like a quote or something. It's all up to you.

Once the Seattle Sounders season starts in two weeks, I'll be using it to give live in game updates from the stadium.
The bluest skies you’ve ever seen are in Seattle- And the hills the greenest green, in Seattle-
Like a beautiful child, growing up, free an’ wild- Full of hopes an’ full of fears, full of laughter, full of tears-
Full of dreams to last the years, in Seattle- in Seattle!
