Had a little walk around town today, all the auld arse places where you get the best craic an that. Few large whites and a few good laughs. Thing was, I met an arl fella I recognised from Crocky on Slater St and felt dead sorry for him as he was talking about all his auld haunts disappearing.
He only gets out once a week now, jumping a bus into town instead of just a few pints every night in his old locals. Anyway I came home and her and the kids were out so I sat down and wrote a poem about him. I'm not averse to a verse but I'm no poet either but it kind of touched me heart that. It's that shite, William Macgonigall will turn in his grave but I had to do it!

Bloody excellent matey. You could be describing the decline of so many of the old community neighbourhoods of Manchester - all gone when they pulled down our very close-knit so-called "slum" neighbourhoods and buggered us all off to very far flung and different country places surrounding the outskirts of the city itself. Hattersley, Glossop, Heywood and Wythenshawe where we were shipped to and because the bastards shipped us all to very different estates like the rest of our neighbours in Ardwick, wherever they all ended up, none of us knew any bugger at all!!
