You can tell the fella on Sky isn't a lawyer. City to argue that UEFA can't prove the leaked emails are real?

City would have to give access to all their emails over that period to prove it. I don't think they'll be keen

How can they stay in a competition this year?

Already started... Easier to ban when it hasn't kicked off

BBC is a joke with their reaction, they've got some ex City nobody talking about how classy the club have been through all of this and how unjustified it all is.

This'll end up getting overturned.

Funny as fuck though. Small time wankers

Overturned or not, mud sticks. Reputation is huge to them, and theirs is currently in absolute tatters.

Not directly. Implication is that they were deliberately lying about sources of income which would mean all those 'sponsorship-paid-for' wage increases were breaking the rules though. Whether Premier League want to open that up will probably depend on how hard Manchester City push UEFA and what UEFA then get forced to dump out in the open about what they know now (and knew then).

Will City push UEFA though. The Der Spiegel emails seem pretty irrefutable. It wouldn't surprise me if AD just play the victim card and sell the Club on. They are here to try and whitewash the perception of their regime it seems pretty counter intuitive to drag AD through a potential shitstorm.

We need a full investigation into how they can claim to be one of the biggest clubs in the world based on (inflated) revenue. If i was LFC/MANU i would be asking the FA/PL to look into this and FORCE them to accurately account for their sponsorship deals.  If those are written down then they will have less money for transfers and wages.

UEFA have opened a can of worms...

These are going to be absolutely unbearable now.

Not being in Europe gives them a better shot at the league though.

Knock on effect could be huge. It could affect the players/managers they can attract and also affect the happiness/general performance of their squad.

The financial side of it will have to be more open now. They can’t just write blank cheques for wages anymore. So without being able to offer that insane money their transfer targets are likely to have more choice where they have get similar money.

I don’t think it’s as simple as they just continue on as normal but with more rest days. This will cause chaos.

You cannot call overseas Liverpool supporters glory hunters. We’ve won one trophy this decade. If they’re glory hunters, they’re really bad ones. They’re actually journey hunters. It’s the journey and the story. Something about Liverpool has grabbed them." - Neil Atkinson (May, 2019)

This is how I feel about it. Even if we have broke their bent rules, then I fucking applaud us for doing so. Without spending the money we did in the early 2010’s, we’d never have won as much as we have now. Teams like Leeds, Villa, Everton etc can only dream of having a sugar daddy buying them to the title. That’s exactly what we did but I don’t give a fuck. The corrupt owners of the elite clubs didn’t like it and tried to stop us, but it didn’t. This two year ban won’t stop us either. It will be irrelevant in another few years time.

Will it?
I think so mate. All the journos close to it were insistent that it appeared that they were going to be cleared. I believe they were already punished by uefa in 2014 and the only new evidence came from leaked (or they would say stolen emails) so there was a feeling that this was all grandstanding from uefa and that city had already gotten away with it. They've got too much money and are far too powerful as a result for this to stick IMO.

That being said, if Guardiola leaves as a result of not being able to compete for the trophy he wants the most and was bought to deliver then the damage is done. Literally nothing standing in the way of 5 years or so of absolute Liverpool FC dominance.

The level head in me thinks that this will get reduced to one year or cancelled all together.

PSG and UEFA has some weird agreement and all concerns for them just disappeared.  I suspect the same will happen again.

There are some interesting precedents.  Galatasary appealed a ban on the grounds it was against EU law.  They lost

AC Milan argued that their two year ban was disproportionate.... CAS agreed and it went back and was reduced.

It’s interesting that lots of stories came out in December saying city had come to an agreement with UEFA.  This seems likely as it’s taken months for this to go forward after a fairly clear judgement.

What happened in between? Why did it break down?

Finally, some of the city statement is odd.  UEFA brought tried and sentenced the case?  Well of course they brought it, it’s their rules!  But they didn’t try it, that was done independently ...
it’s such an odd response from city.  Really odd.

I think City should play their home games at Strangeways from now on. It is the only way they ever get a full house and they will be surrounded people who have also somehow convinced themselves they are innocent and have been fitted up despite knowing full well they committed the crime.

If the ban does indeed stick for at least a season, then Pep is without a question definitely off. I don't see who they can get who will come in and instantaneously keep them at the same level they have been at the last few seasons, particularly with a mini rebuild job on the way if some players end up leaving.

They'll appeal just to delay any ban kicking in so they'll have next season in CL.

Someone should point out that at least one of those "elite" and "establishment" clubs in AC Milan have already been punished under FFP. But they weren't trying to cheat the system, they admitted they fucked up accounts wise and took the ban..

I was shocked to hear two seasons. I’d only ever heard rumours of a ban for one season.

I think it’s genius by UEFA, almost like an insurance policy against an appeal.... “Appeal it if you want but we will still get you for at least a year you twats!”

Was just thinking that. The English media have done such a great job in sportswashing the regime, and this has undone all of it in one moment. Even if it's reduced/overturned.

Had it in for us from the start. Let’s see if anything happens to PSG?

Bent competition, bent authorities. Not arsed about playing in it either way. As another poster said, hope we put kids team out against Madrid. Won’t happen though.

The amount of corruption in football is sickening. Premier league to UEFA, they will do anything to keep from upsetting the status quo.
