BUNP!

We're still short of what we need.

Throw in a few quid well yers?

Local community wants to rebuild something good, right on the doorstep of The Kop, and 70% of the target has been raised by one individual. From down south.

Shame on us.

Next time you go der game, lid, instead of justanotherpint or yetanothertshirt, think about this bakery and stick a few quid into that project.

Imagine being able to say that you contributed to the cost of the oven that would make that pork pie on the premises ;)

Volunteers behind the Homebaked Anfield project, which aims to re-open the much-loved bakery opposite Liverpool FC’s stadium, must raise £13,000 before January 29.

The idea, part of a community co-operative project set up under the umbrella of Liverpool Biennial, will place the historic bakery at the centre of plans to breathe life back into the area. Volunteer Lynn Tolmon, of nearby Wylva Road, said the first step is to secure the £13,000 to buy a new bread oven and begin running Mitchell’s as a business again.

So far £9,565 has been pledged.

She added: “If we don’t get the money by the deadline, then basically we don’t get the project funded.

"We have been doing our best to raise money every match day and biennial day by offering cups of tea and coffee and accepting donations.

"We have raised a lot in a short space of time, but I keep looking at the total so far and the number of days we have left and I get a bit nervous.

“But If everyone going to the match gave just 30p, we’d be there.”

The Homebaked project goes hand-in-hand with 2UP, 2Down, which aims to develop “places and spaces” for the neighbourhood in empty homes and vacant ground surrounding Liverpool FC’s home ground, including the flats above Mitchell’s.

Lynn added: “The whole project is a co-operative, so the idea is that anyone who gets involved will own a little bit of the property.

"That will hopefully give some control back to residents and protect them from things like Compulsory Purchase Orders.

“People in Anfield have spent too long feeling like control has been taken away from them. There is still such a strong community here, but people are scared and because of that, the community only exists inside people’s homes.

“This is the first step in us taking back some of that control.”

What with the money that's been donated here? Have we made £1000 yet? Sounds like its needed soon.

You would think that the Club or individual players could have sorted this by now. It's buttons compared to their weekly wages.

Oh that old chestnut again.

I'm sure if individual players were even aware of it, they might make a contibution, but if there is no direct path between player and bakery, ie: someone inbetween who knows both parties, then don't hold your breath.
As for the Club, yes they do a lot for the community(not enough some would say), but they can't be responsible for every business and private enterprise within the vicinity of the ground.

I mean, where does it stop?

Helping these people might well get some good PR, but what happens when the paper shop over the road, or the chippy on the other corner is having a bit of financial trouble.  Should they help them out also?

Of course not.

At the end of the day, it's up to the people themselves to make up the cash, if that includes us, the general public to help them reach that goal, then great, we can all do our little bit to help them get there, but it's neither the club, or staff of the club's responsibility to be sticking their hand in their pocket to help what is basically a business.

I hope and expect them to raise the funds needed, and I'll be contribution to the fund tonight myself when I pop in, pre-game.

Like the idea. That bakery has always been there as far as I remember, though it became a housing project for a while last year but retained the name. Might ask out supporters club if they want to help too. We have done charity things in the past and might help a little bit. Can also raise awareness amongst members too.

No, but the club which prides itself on its community ethos and is falling behind Everton in terms of what it does in reality, could assist, I'm sure a regular order from the club would do no harm. That's not charity, its called looking after your own first, that's what we do.

Getting an oven is part of take off, this part of town does not have the benefits that sitting next to Chelsea's ground have, each one reach one.

There's lots of things we could stick it to the club for, because they're so bloody poor at, but it makes me laugh when people want to hit them with a stick because they're not doing X.  Although X has nothing to do with them in the first place.

Yeah carry on.  It's all the clubs fault, don't ya know.

In next weeks headlines, 'Liverpool FC at fault for the proliferation of Anfield Land Mines (dog shit), on the streets of Anfield'.

I just don't get it?  Why people feel the need to have digs at the club for things which are outside of their remit.

I wasn't having a dig at the club. I was making an observation. I see myself as part of the community and I have contributed what I can. What's wrong with expecting the club or individuals within the club from making a gesture and helping a community project that is literally on its doorstep? £3500 is next to nothing from their side of the road.

Yes, I agree.  Although the club is, or should be, very much part of that community, just as the fans are.

For the last 15 years Liverpool FC through its own mismanagement, has blighted this community, this is the chance for those of us who visit that community only once a week (or even once a season) to put a little something back

To be fair though, I'd argue that the club are part of the reason as to why Anfield (the area) is in it's current state - empty & boarded up housing everywhere - part club owned, part council/housing assoc etc.

The club should do more to help it's local community (or if does already do so then maybe it needs to highlight it's work more/better) - hopefully the new Club Foundation may have something to do with that?

That the business is a co-op of local residents coming together to offer it's community a service - and something the club's fans can benefit from - then maybe the club should be asking what it can do to help too?

Indeed, the club have done both good and bad in the area, deliberate or otherwise, this shop got national TV coverage and is more than just one business now as it represents the re-birth of the whole area, sort of symbolic. We could have a successful business, all it takes is selling Joe Cole about 15 hours earlier than planned and the money is made up.

Truthfully I do not know if the person monitoring this has submitted our pledge yet.

So here's your deadline.

Jan 25th. (with thanks to redbyrdz ;D :wave )

Three weeks.

That's three weeks for RAWKites to make a difference, above and beyond any difference we may or may not already have made - the important thing there is "above and beyond".

We are 35k+ people. 10p each......just imagine that.......

I'd be happy to stick some more in, I was just wondering if it makes sense to do it via Rawk or just pop into the bakery.

I personally don't give a flying gnat's chuff how the money is raised or via which means so long as they get it.

I'd like to think I'm a decent judge of character and before the Fulham game I met a bunch of people involved in this and they were the salt of the earth, they just want to bake bread and cakes and stuff.

Stepping into that place was like stepping back in time. I described my memories of pre-match rituals in the 70s and they confirmed every one of them.

Update from the campaign...   :)

New Year, Nearly There!
Update #3 · Jan. 08, 2013 ·

Have you been following our campaign? Can you guess how close we are?

As I write this, we have raised £10,572 towards our goal of £13,000

That's quite incredible. Our supporters are quite incredible. Over Christmas, you've found it in your hearts - and in your budgets - to help us get an oven so we can start baking good bread for the people of Anfield.

But I'm a bit of a worrier. I'm the kind of person who checks the door-keys twice before bedtime; I tend to be half an hour early for meetings. I spend an unhealthy amount of time looking at our Kickstarter statistics, worrying about lulls and plateaux. And until we hit our target, I'll worry. Do you think you might know someone who can pledge a couple of quid, just to keep me calm?

The sooner we hit target, the sooner I'll stop bothering you!

Have a fabulous 2013! May all your dreams come true, even that one about a swimming-pool full of hot chocolate and a lilo made of donuts. Maybe that one's just me...
David Platt has a face like a Michael Myers mask being stretched over a dinosaur egg.

The RAWK donation hasn't been added to the total yet - will hopefully happen next week. :wave

We've hit the £1000 mark and will be making the payment in the next few days, hopefully taking them over their target. :wave

Got £50 from our OSC branch funds agreed and will add mine too on Sat. Great news. Look forward to seeing how this develops.

Reading about the rewards, does this mean there will be an official loaf named after rawk?! That would be cool if so. I'd def have to get one of them
