VVD knows what to do.
Score from a corner but not celebrate out of respect for his former future club?

I think Klopp will go balls deep with his team selection and make changes later in the match. Strongest possible team fitness permitting.

Not sure why there is a call for Sturridge to start.

Maybe because he's one of the many good players we have available?  We start a period where there will no doubt be some rotation due to the number of games and he's actually done well in his last few appearances, in fact you could argue he's perfect for the opposition and their set up.

Wouldn't necessarily start him myself but I can understand why some might.

He isn't a starter and is a better option off the bench. Rotation as a starter can take place further into our schedule.

From that press conference, would be surprised if Lallana starts?
Although, he has misled us before!  I guess he could use him for 60 and then sub him? Oh what do I know

A win against Southampton and all of the sudden the season is looking to shape up nicely. Top of the group in UCL, no League Cup january distraction, no major injury problems, no international football till march, and fa cup to come. Hope we give saints a hiding, after last season and the summer saga.

I don't think he will start. He's been out for ages and should be eased in over the next few games.

Seem to have the knowledge how to prevent our creativity Southampton but hopefully the recent Huddersfield and Maribor games have shown we can eventually break teams down now that come and park the bus.

Team I would select is:

Mignolet

Gomez
Matip
Klavan
Moreno

Can
Gini
Coutinho

Salah
Sturridge
Mane

I think you have to start Sturridge if he's getting on the scoresheet recently. Should be confident.

Henderson has had a little knock so I think that midfield makes sense and has good balance.

Ideally I'd like to see Gomez and Matip as the centre back pairing but I don't think Trent is experienced enough or ready to play right back while Gomez is finding a new position.

That's a brilliant press conference isn't it, You cant watch it without laughing. Hope Mane can make it him and Salah together are just electric.  Would love an early goal get a bit of feel good factor rocking. With Lallana back on the bench, our attacking options look fantastic. We aint scored in too many games against this lot recently, time to put that right

Matip out.

We have depth in attacking positions but anytime a CB is out we’re kind of in a spot of bother because there aren’t enough of them.

I haven’t seen Klavan in any training pictures.

Gomez in the centre with Lovren then?

Fair point! Haha

I'd go Gomez and Klavan, with Trent & either Moreno or Robertson.

But I suspect it will be Lovren & Klavan.

not a big blow? He's easily the best central defender here.

He's the best of a underwhelming bunch.

I love the idea of Matip.  A tall, ball playing CB.  But he's too weak, timid, no vocal enough and has made plenty of errors himself this season.

He need to be more dominant, but I suspect he really need the partner to do that role, so he can be the Ferdinand alongside a Vidic, which will hopefully be VVD for us in the future.

Then we might see the best of Matip.

Maybe I'm harsh on him, but I do think he needs to be strong, dominant and it's not just Lovren who has made mistakes this season, Matip has too.

Their set-up pretty much the way Pellegrino had Alaves. Low-scoring, tight defence. They've scored nine goals in eleven matches: three of those have come away from home and three were scored in one game (at home to West Ham).  It would be quite disappointing if we don't get three points out of this, particularly with a much fuller bench.

If Matip is out then, it's the perfect opportunity for Gomez to get a start at center back with Trent at fullback, this would be my backline for tommorow

We’re playing every few days until the end of the year now. This is it. This stretch will probably shape our season. We need to get this phase of the season right and a win here would be the perfect start to set us on our way. I think Klopp knows how important this match is.

Klopp has trolled us with Mané before so I expect him to start. I think all of Mané, Coutinho, Firmino, Henderson and Salah will start. We’re at home and I think Klopp is going to go balls out to try and blow them away.

I’m sure some will have a meltdown with the Matip news but having been to Anfield a couple of times this season it’s all about breaking down the wall of defenders. We will win or lose this based on our ability to prise them open.

Yeah I agree with that, think Lovren will come back in if Matip's out  and as it's been said, the other end of the pitch is gonna be more crucial today.
