The eBay thread (your buys and sales)
« on: February 13, 2007, 11:01:58 pm »
Did a search on here for a related type eBay thread and couldn't find one... lots of variants but no 'I've just bought/sold' type ones - so in the spirit of the 'What are you listening to now?' thread... just curious to see what you're all up to, and what you're looking at.

I'm pretty new to eBay (these last 3 days except for an initial sale of something a year or so back), but I've been getting slightly addicted to it recently (it's probably the Slurm). I've just been outbid on a dream buy of a LINN SONDEK LP12 turntable by a tenner (without an arm tho) - it went for £450 odd in the end (rrp around £2,500 for the lot).

.. so I'm feeling kind of melancholy, but also happy that I've saved 450 quid. I think.  :'(

That turntable makes me dribble. I've had a real basic one for 20 years and I so want to splash out on something that I could be happy with for the rest of.

I'm also looking out for a turntable that plays 78rpm records on.. and if it had a USB connection that would be double plus good ;D

I've also been out bid on Lee Konitz's 'Motion' LP at the last minute, but I did snap up a rare (ish - lots seem to be pretty scattergun when it comes to mentioning the word 'rare) Can LP and a few Fall LP's yesterday.

Got some interesting days coming up.. 3 Faust 'Faust Tapes' LP's , plus a Caroliner LP (I've never even seen an album of theirs), Charley Patton, Art Blakey, Bessie Smith, Roxy Music and more Fall to name but a few.. oh, and a ladder.

So what are you after, waiting on, successfully won and sold?..

How much would the replacement arm cost you?

Just bought a new mountain bike frame (the beautiful Specialized Stumpjumper below) then realised I want loads of new shit to go on it so have spent nearly £400 in the last three days with several more auctions coming up for the rest of the gear I 'need'.

It's dangerously addictive, especially because paypal doesn't feel like real money until the "oh shit" moment when you check the bank balance at the end of the month.

At my last look, around £280. He was selling it as a separate.. could well have gone for 350 tho.

Mind you did bid for a 78 European cup tic stub, see how far this guy would bid up. Went for 17 notes in the end.

There's too many charlatans on EBay, it's a total disgrace. I've bought three children in the last year, and they've all been rubbish. One was even ginger, for fuck's sake, and the packaging costs were ridiculous.

I bought a Liverpool FC watch for just £1. My first ever purchase. What I didn't look at was where it was coming from - fucking Hong Kong. Cost me £15 in postage.

Keep getting outbid for signed LFC footballs.

Have bought PCD  and X Factor concert tickets for the missus & daughter.

Sold my spare Wii and made a small profit.

the trick is of course, to not bid until the closing minutes. Thus not pushing the price you pay up and giving you the best chance of winning. :wave

That is, of course, true. It's a bit annoying though when you wait until the last second and put your bid in only to find out the other fella already had a higher maximum and then you wish you'd just put an extra 5% on your bid. I have actually won a couple of bargains bidding 12+ hours in advance the last couple of days (as I can't get on eBay at work). Seems like items ending during the day go a lot cheaper than at 'prime time'.
If you're lying, I'll chop your head off.

yeah but you can just stick in the maximum you can afford/want to pay and if its not high enough then thats that, but if it is, you pay watever the winning price is.

obviously if everyone did it like that ebay would be fucking shit.

there's lots of things to look out for on ebay. for eg,i often buy and sell technics decks.get them cheap,do them up,or just re-sell .tip- if the person advertising them has a picture, and the picture shows the tone arms have coins on ,usually 1p or 5p,then they are used for hip-hop or breaks, which usually means lots of abuse-banging,heavy spinback ,scratching etc. go for ones that are relatively new,and were a passing fase.

What I meant was I set myself a limit for a signed LFC football or shirt and I will not go over that limit.

What's your limit? I have a ball signed by King Kenny, Ian Rush, Bruce Grobelaar, Ronnie Whelan, Hansen, Lawro and several others that are either best not mentioned (Barry Venison, shhh!) or undecipherable. I have got no certificate of authenticity but then if you were faking signatures, would you really go to the length of forging Barry Venisons? It was won at some game I would guess around 1989 by my Auntie. I was thinking of sticking it on ebay but if you're still after one let me know.

Had some real beauts from eBay. My prize possession is a 7" test pressing of Oh, the Guilt by Nirvana (the split single with Jesus Lizard). There's only 10 in the world and I have number 4. Brought it for £362 from a bloke in Australia (where the label - Insipid Vinyl- were based) with a letter of authenticity and everything. Had it checked out by the people at Record Collector magazine and they've confirmed it's a genuine copy.

Mainly buy LFC memorabilia (including a signed shirt) and Nirvana records to try and complete my collection.

I'm selling Crucial 512mb DDR 333MHz PC2700 Memory Module CAS 2.5 at the moment if anyone's interested.

Over the past couple of years I have been buying up Liverpool programmes on Ebay so that I now have every home programme from August 1963 to the present. Only had a couple of problems with non delivery but managed to get the money back through Paypal eventually.

Thinking about going for the aways now but will probably be more difficult.
