the problem with the club stepping in is that you’ll have the same travel operators (and new ones) pulling the same shit next time we get to a European final and overbooking without having the planes/landing slots fully in the knowledge the club will cover their arses when the club shouldn’t be a last minute travel guarantor for themcoaches don’t help those who couldn’t fly out before today, and Thomas cook were saying it was difficult to get aircraft so how could the club? And sorting out coach travel isn’t as easy as say hiring a car is it, especially when your trade is football club not travel operator
Not looking for the club to be some kind of guarantor . The point is preparations and planning should have been in place when reaching the final became a possibility . Sourcing possible charters , clarification of avaiable slots etc . As far as I know , they approached TC when the we actualy qualified , who were able to source the grand total of 4 flights , so around 1000 flights for an anticipated travelling support of 20,000 plus .
WCS were sselling flights without guaranteed slots , and Liverpool would ( or should ) have been aware of this . WCS were playing games thinking they could bully the slots out of Kiev , but it didn't turn out that way . If people would have known beforehand , alternative arrangements could have been made . Finalised slot deadlines were supposedly a week ago , so a decsion on this should have been last weekend one way or the other.
Unfortunately , other factors ahve been at play in all of this , one of the major ones being the final being played over the bank holiday weekend , which obviously affect the availabilty of available aircraft.
Yes , LFC are not toally responsible for this , but they do bear some responsibilty . The club are not a travel agent , but they are a huge commercial operation.
