Last sixteen games with and without Luis Suarez
« on: February 4, 2012, 10:42:46 am »
The last eight games Luis played before he was suspended.

3 games won.
1 game lost.
4 draws
Total 13 points.
GF 8
GA 5
...........................
The last eight games played without Luis Suarez.
2 wins.
3 lost.
3 drows.
Total 9 points.
GF 10
GA 9.

The difference between those games are only four points, but we have to take in consideration that Suarez played against United,City and Chelsea in his last eight games...and during the games Liverpool played without him we faced only a difficult rival(City) and lost 0x3.

I am sure that Luisito will score much more goals for Liverpool from now on.

The team has clicked much better the last 8 games, but it has nothing to do with Suarez. With so many new players and a new-ish manager, the team needs time to get to know each other's style and runs. I think the understanding was worse 8 games ago than it is now and Luis will bring some creativity, pace and unpredictability into a side that is starting to really click when playing together. In other words, Suarez is coming into another team than he left - a better one. Looking forward to see how good we are now.

Never been too fond of these types of comparisons. The biggest factor across both spells is how the team has performed overall, which has been inconsistently.

I agree with the sentiment but not sure the figures are accurate. My understanding is Suarez has missed 9 games. One for the finger to the crowd and 8 for the Evra stuff. In that time we beat Newcastle, Oldham, City, Man Utd, Wolves. Lost to Bolton and City and drew with City and Stoke.

By my count that is:
5 wins
2 draws
2 losses

So we've got a better record without him as far as I am aware. But we need to take into consideration that we've seen the return of Gerrard and the team has gelled much better. In his last 8 games I have a feeling  Suarez has some sort of stomach strain injury that was hampering him too. I think he'll come back rested and on fire

We've only lost 2 games since he was banned. At City and Bolton.

Won 4. drawn 2.

Can't do a points comparison as 4 Cup games played?

Edit: yep, forgot about the 1 game ban v barcodes. 5 wins is correct.

Results and points tally could be more or less the same.

The key for me is that, bar the Wolves and City 2nd leg games, we've been incredibly dull to watch without Luis during his ban.

The key moment of the last 16 games was the Manager's reaction to game 13.
They have life in them, they have humour, they're arrogant, they're cocky and they're proud. And that's what I want my team to be.

Means nothing, as so many other factors have been effective. Lucas/Gerrard injuries for example.

I actually have a problem with the comparison.  Suarez wasn't on his best form when the ban was looming so I think that actually affected our performances.....

Bang on the money my friend, never been an advocate of strpping individuals down in public but it sure got a reaction from the players, particularly in the City game.

Lets just hope that Luis coming back from a January suspension has the same effect as he had last year, but with some better finishing.
With him, Andy and Craig clicking, we might have a complete attacking package of technique, strength and speed. And when that doesn't work, surely Stevie could help out. But lets just hope that they do click.

You think we lost 0-2 but Bellamy scored !

2-0 up in 15 mins.  Bellamy,11, Skrtel,15 mins.

Played at 2pm so you were probably in bed down under   ;)

Silly comparison. Football is a team game although individual can change the result of a game but the majority contributes to it.

1.  The comparison is wrong.  Suarez has been suspended for nine games.
2.  The sample is far too small to be useful and there is no attempt to account for other external factors.
