Whilst Gomez, won't be happy that his teammate is injured, if the timeframe is 4-6 weeks which is the rumour on Twitter, he will be excited that he is guaranteed to get opportunities at CB a lot sooner than he probably expected. Matip won't play every league game whilst Konate is out imo.

If he plays to his potential, as he'd shown previously before his (ankle?) injury, then he might even become 1st choice partner. Matip is better in the air, probably slightly better on the ball, but Gomez is significantly quicker and more nimble. Gomez would be 1st choice CB for any other club in the league.

yeah really, really good last night. I don't know quite what it is because Matip and Ibou are great but there's just something incredibly calming about Gomez and Virg at CB. I think part of it may be that Gomez can play/cover trent at RB so when Trent is marauding forward Joe knows more about the position he needs to cover maybe?

Classy af when he came on, and no offence to Nat but you can see the gulf in class at what it takes at this level. Phillips is a good defender, but Gomez is absolutely top drawer. Really hope he features more going forward now.

He was immense when he came on. Had Zaha in his pocket and his passing to the forwards was great. Always forget he has that in his locker.

It's because you know that if they need to they can phase shift to another time zone in a fraction of a second. I'm sure there was one occasion with Joe where you actually saw reality blur as he kicked on the afterburners

hoping his injury problem works out as similar as vvd as in the past and never to occur again.

lets see how the next few months work out for him with matip and konate out. think he has never been a slow starter as well and usually just steps into games like he never even misses it even when playing out of position.

Konate is the boy who should play next to Van Dijk when everybody is fit. He was absolutely outstanding in some matches towards the end of last season and his room to grow is massive. Gomez can be very good in his own right though. Once upon a time we’d have chopped an arm off to have Gomez step in.

Joseph Dave Gomez has never scored a goal in his professional career. He has played over 100 times for us and I believe 20 odd times for Charlton.
