Would have much preferred Guardiola to leave to be honest. Almost irreplaceable but in saying that, they don't particularly worry me in Europe and Messi is unquestionably on the decline and miles away from his best, so not hugely arsed if they get him next season.

Messi won't be motivated when going there anyway. It will be like Falcao or Sanchez at United. The last massive payday for the player and the marketing potential for the club.
I have no idea what I’m taking about

That clip of Messi strolling around whilst others are playing football say a lot about him.
Either his legs are gone and he can’t play a full game, or his heart is not in it.
Either way he is not the player he was.
A last big payday with separate tax free earnings as a brand ambassador for Abu Dhabi Double Glazing, along with free kick consultant for the women’s team, will probably appeal. I think if he were to come here, he will be yet another year older. He would no doubt function in the high press, somewhat like a David Silva, when City have the ball, but out of possession he would be worse than useless.

With Pep signing a new deal, making his stay at City longer than Barca or Bayern, I'm surprised no-one is calling for the Premier League to look into how the man is paid after Mancini admitted he was paid off the books. They will obviously have to make Messi the highest paid player in the World to get him and there's no way they can do that and comply with FFP
Yeah, because they've always complied with FFP in the past

Their mentality is piss poor, especially when they go behind.
For a couple of seasons now, teams have been slowly working out that the way to unsettle City is to get in their faces from the first whistle and try to get an early goal. They are mentally weak under pressure, and don't have the leaders to turn it around.

Since the start of 2018/19 they've now fallen behind in 23 matches, and their record in those games is won 4, drawn 4 and lost 15.

Flat-track bullies. Look after the restart last season. Smashed everyone in the league after the title was done and dusted, but lost in the cup to Arsenal and the CL to Lyon.

There's a template to beat them which teams have consistently used when playing City at home over the last 12 months.

If City fall behind I can't seem them clawing their way back into the race.  They just don't have the mentality for it.  Spurs are showing more guts right now.

Spurs might be short on quality, with a manager who is largely past it; but in a crazy and unpredictable season like this, some guts and pragmatic tactics can go a long way.*

*This in no way implies I consider Spurs to be a threat, but I've warned since before the season started that we might struggle to maintain our level of previous years.  We also need to have a pragmatic outlook.

Does that really count?  We all know Man City effectively ceased to exist around 2010.  This monster bears no relation to that club. But equally they have no excuse to be producing the kind of form they are right now.

Pep has lost it unfortunately

Isn't it a bit early to write Pep off? It's not so long ago he was winning two Premier Leagues on the bounce and no one can deny this season is bizarre. All the big clubs are struggling under the condensed season and pointless internationals. Haven't you guys lost Raheem Sterling too? Either way, once things stabilise and the world returns to some semblance of normality, things could start to look up for all our teams again.

Keeps getting showed up in the Champions League latter stages though. Also, I feel he inherited a championship-winning side with Kompany, Aguero, Silva, etc. and never knew how to rebuild once those aging stars started to decline, retire or leave the club. The City project has proved that Pep really isn't all that. He's never really had to build a champion team and nurture young players into superstars.... Messi doesn't count because he was already on the rise before Pep took over. Also, when he got the Barcelona job he had stars like Eto, Ronaldinho, etc. he had to tame or get rid of, but there was an outstanding spine in place already, with people like Puyol, Iniesta and Xavi on the edge of breaking out. Pep doesn't know how to build a team from scratch; he could never take a band of mostly no-name players to a Europa League final or a CL final like Klopp did between 2016 and 2018.

Must be infuriating for their 26 fans to watch them lose in the same exact way over and over and over again for the last 18 months. Pretty mental that Guardiola hasn’t been able to stop it happening and even more so that it’s happening more often as time goes on. It’s basically a Wenger-ism at this point.

yes that list of World  class players he inherited is spectacular, (also Sterling, Fernandinho, AND De Bruyne). And like you say the lack of success in Europe is an under-achievement considering we've been to two while Klopp was building a team.

Pep has lost it? Wasn’t it only last season that Pep was the greatest manager of all time?

This is the problem with fans of sports washing clubs. They love the success the money brings , but when they’re not winning there is no loyalty. There is no backing the manager and players to turn it around. All they want is instant success so they will be demanding more state money is spent or they will move on to the next sports washing club. It’s gross although another reminder how lucky we Liverpool fans are to support such a great club with a fantastic fan base.

Agree with this to an extent.

The amount of City fans I have seen that just keep saying 'massive rebuild needed' or 'we need 3 or 4 world class players'.

You only have to look at our club's social media comments to see we're not immune to knee-jerk emotionalism. There is a proportion of any support that is immature and impatient. The problem city have is that they hired the manager the regime wanted, have extracted a couple more years from him, but it seems he is exhausted and so are his players - of him.
