Welcome Adrian
« on: August 5, 2019, 02:02:51 pm »

Quote
Liverpool FC have completed the signing of Adrian on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper has signed a deal with the Reds following the departure of Simon Mignolet on a permanent switch to Club Brugge earlier today.

“I’m feeling really happy; really happy to be here and to work in this great club and start doing my stuff on the pitch as soon as possible,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I’m very ambitious, I come here to try to win everything, to try to push Ali from the first minute and to make us better.

“Obviously I want to win titles. I come here to fight for all the competitions. We have many competitions ahead – we’re going to fight for it and try to get them.

“I’m looking forward to playing my first game at Anfield and to win as many games as we can.”

Adrian arrives after his six-year spell with West Ham United came to an end at the conclusion of last season.

The Spaniard joined the Hammers from Real Betis in July 2013 and went on to make 150 appearances for the club.

Good signing this. More suited to us than Migs probably. Best back-up we have had for ages.

Only seen a few games of him but he always seemed a solid keeper, was baffled when Hart took his starting spot. Good signing thanks to some lucky timing.

Two things:

1) Where is the lean? It's not a proper signing with no lean. This could be a bad omen.
2) Net 6.4m ... back of the net
If you can't walk in a straight line.... you shouldn't be playing for Liverpool. End of

Even on a free a good chance of a wage saving as well as Mignolet was signed as first choice and on a first team wage.

Adrian signing as back up can't be on daft wages.

Jürgen Klopp feels the acquisition of Adrian represents the 'perfect solution' for Liverpool following the departure of Simon Mignolet.

Mignolet brought his six-year spell with the Reds to an end earlier today when he completed a permanent switch to Club Brugge.

Liverpool subsequently moved to add to their goalkeeping ranks by securing a deal for Adrian, who arrives on a free transfer after leaving West Ham United at the end of last season.

The 32-year-old made 150 appearances during his time with the Hammers, twice finishing as runner-up in the club’s Player of the Year Award – and Klopp feels he will bring the necessary talent and experience to his squad.

The manager told Liverpoolfc.com: “I think this is the perfect solution for us in this moment, replacing talent and experience like for like.

“With Ali and Simon, I felt like we had two ‘No.1s’ and in many ways we have repeated that with Adrian. This is important.

“He is a ‘keeper who knows the Premier League, who has played in pressure situations and has the highest quality.

“They are big gloves to fill because Simon was such an outstanding professional and contributed to the group even when not in the starting XI. Everything we know about Adrian tells us he has the personal qualities to go with his clear playing talent to ensure this area of the team is not weakened.

“We’re all looking forward to working with him.”

The timing isn't great for him, in terms of wanting to get playing as soon as he can!

Doubt he plays Super League, but equally wouldn't be shocked. Assume he'll play the League and FA Cup. And maybe the World Club semi.

Hopefully a few nice home draw in the League Cup to come.

Watching Bravo play one-twos with his defenders and charge off his line to stop a couple of our moves bought home how ill suited Migs was for us. We need someone who is more comfortable coming off the line and receiving the ball to his feet. Hopefully Adrian is the answer. Look forward to his League Cup and FA Cup appearances!

Interesting that he notes in his interview that there was interest from the club in him a few years ago. Sounds like we've talked with him over the past few days and told him yesterday to go to London to do all the medical checks. Also didn't realize he's a pal of Pepe Reina's and couldn't tell him he was talking with us :D
