1:21.326 from Hulkenberg. That's 4 tenths quicker than last years fastest time on Day 1 (Quicker times were expected due to the new surface on the track and new tyre compounds).

Has there been any predictions in previous F1 threads before e.g. winning driver, winning team, surprise race winners, most improved teams, most polls, most race wins, biggest dick head driver award etc etc ? Perhaps once testing is providing more details it would be worth F1 fans on here doing something like this and seeing how spectacularly wrong we get it !

okay. When we get nearer to the start of the season, and once a good few days of testing are done, I will post a list of predictions for others to have a go as well. We can then look back at the end of the season and see who made some outstanding predictions (probably not me !). Didn`t know about the ferrari meltdown poster - their fans do tend to be, shall we say, emotional about their team

I've blocked Formula One, FIA, Mercedes in general and their F1 team on Facebook. Productive day for me  :wave Also got a five-minute sprint rage blast on my bike which I'm still knackered from. Productive day yet again. I'm already looking forward to the next MotoGP race and the Indycar final tonight.

Bye for the season lads! See you in 2018.

Certainly a very good start for renault engines and McLaren at least seem to have improved relative to last season....which wouldn`t be difficult !

I did say relative to last season. With going on super soft it would suggest that they are slower than other renault engined cars but this all has to be taken with a large pinch of salt because I am sure a lot of teams will be holding plenty back.

Looks bloody cold in Barcelona !

Not sure when it was first on but I only discovered it by accident this weekend and watched all 4 episodes. It covers McLaren’s pre-season a year back but was a good watch.

Red bull will certainly be happy though. 100 laps under their belt and the top of the boards. Whatever they were doing it is nice to lay down a marker. You know what will happen though. Mercedes will be all quiet for a few of the days and then bang, blow everyone out of the water

Interesting that Ferrari have gone to a longer wheel base like the Mercedes. That represents a bit of a change in philosophy for them. Some interesting looking aero on the car too. Just hope it's as good as it looks.

I am actually, making the best of an ugly component. Be daft not to utilise it so in some way it gives an advantage.

Oh I get making the most of it, they should if it’s beneficial, but it just looks untidy and adds more to an already unsightly area.
