That was the great thing about Vice City - you could buy apartments and buildings and businesses.

They should also make a lot more of the buildings and all the shops visitable - there were tons of shops in San Andreas.

That was a good addition to VC but even that, you spend money at first and its great but it brings in even more for you to do nothing with. Still a good feature but maybe spending money on clothes, weapons, rent, cars, maybe petrol? The more the better i guess. I like the idea of not having enough money for a few things at the top of the scale, something to work towards after the game is over.

Agree about being able to go into a few buildings, think they should bring the gym system back too but an improved one.

That was the major drawback for me in GTA IV

There were shitloads of realistic looking buildings, shops, businesses and stuff - but only a tiny number that you could go into

There were loads of things to interact with and get involved with in VC and SA - so although the graphics were better in VI, the worlds were more realistic in VC and SA.

What's the point of having a real looking world that you cannot interact with? Also agree they need to keep a tight rein on money - that lack of cash drives you on.

Imagine if you can visit garages and shit where you can buy excellent cars that cannot be had any other way?

Oh Yes :) Can Not Wait :)

Hope it's San Andreas with a Gym and more accessible locations.

Either way, anything's an improvement on IV

If they took the engine & 'mechanics' of IV, the open world and vehicle range of SA (planes etc), and the 'feel' of Vice City (maybe have to set it in the 80) then it would tick all of my boxes.

I totally agree with this. Other than, they definitely better use a better engine. Going back and playing IV now, it's like the characters are walking through treacle at times. But the mechanics kept that game fun much longer than it otherwise would have been. I can't tell you how many times I just stood at the top of a flight of stairs waiting to push people down them. It never got boring ;D

Well they completely nailed RDR, along with Rockstar San Diego, and that was much more of an immersive open world experience than IV.

If they can get near the experience of San Andreas, then I'll be the happiest mofo going. Just the transition of lowlife gangbanger to cruising up a huge mountain listening to old country music on a dirt bike, to being thrown out of a cargo plane thousands of feet up..it just had it all. I got lost in that game for weeks, definitely my favourite of all time.

GTA IV for me was let down by its missions, way too many filler missions. If they'd thrown in more of the bank heist type multi-layered ones it would've been a much more memorable experience.

That's a main thing in the Saint's Row games, you get a lot of money but there's always things to spend it on.

What with Saints Row 3 cranking shit to eleven this year I expect Rockstar to blow them out of the water with this one though. As much as I would like them to do a new city based on Washington DC I really do think they'll do one or two of the cities in San Andreas again.

I see what you mean and I was just thinking a little earlier how a GTA IV with the certain fun elements SA would have been perfect. IV was too serious.

Good point and I wish there is more of that in GTA games. That one point in the game in Vice City where you had to raise money and buy businesses to advance the story - it kept you coming back. And the previous posters are right in saying that having so much money at the end of the game with nothing to spend it on feels redundant.

With the V logo looking like an American $5 note, perhaps there will be a bigger emphasis on money like there was in VC. Or perhaps it will just be in Vegas. We'll see!

My worry is that they'll have taken on board the complaints about GTAVI and go too far in the opposite direction, making it like Saints Row. I probably know my way around San Andreas better than I do around Maidenhead :P

The music and style of VC is probably the best in any video game I've ever played, and I wasn't even alive in the 80's.  :-X To be honest I wouldn't complain about a return to VC set in the 80's. Not much would

The thing is, it gets even weirder if you think what those games have become. I probably played GTA 1 and 2 in 1999 or 2000 and I liked them a lot. However, I never really thought back then, that those small cars you see from high above with phones ringing being the start for a mission, would basically turn into something where you're actually running through those streets and have people around talking to you and giving you tasks. It's just amazing to think how computers have developed in those last 10 years or so...

Bring back the humour. TBoGT was brilliant, but the 'vanilla' GTA4 I found took me ages to get into and I didn't really have any desire to go back to it once I'd finished it. I'm not saying it was bad, but compared to 3, VC and especially SA it just didn't grab me.

The dollar bill "5" may mean nothing, but ideally I want to be able to buy up the entire fucking city.

IV was pretty incredible, for me though it just lacked the diversity of San Andreas. As long as there's a lot of different landscapes this'll be great. As a sandbox game, GTA is in a league of it's own.

Really didnt enjoy GTA4, just felt wrong. The characters, the story itself, the missions. For an open world game it felt so linear. They took "Choice" away, said play it this way or dont play it at all. All i could buy was guns, guns and more guns. Plus i had half a mill in the bank yet i'm still this poor, filthy nico belic from the balkans looking for the american dream.

San Andreas gave you options, buying property, business, casino's, gym's, fast food, clothes and such. You didnt have to do all those things, but hey if you wanted to you had the choice to.

Also from GTA3 to S.A, I loved the radio stations, the weird chats, i'd just listen to them, they were funny. Its like Rockstar just took the fun out of GTA4.

Excited to see what they've got in store though regardless.

I liked S.A. but I prefered GTAIV. I thought SA started really well but got pretty annoying later on... The missions with the aeroplane really fucked me off. After a while doing the las vegas missions i sacked it off - it's the only full gta game i haven't completed (including 1 & 2. havent played all the add ons though).

Really looking forward to 5 though. Would love to see it in a different city, for a change.

You've just written exactly my feelings! That is kinda scary. I couldn't be fucked with the aeroplanes and had forgotten the point of the story by the time I'd done 3 or 4 Vegas missions.

When does everyone think the release date will be?

Probably March/April next year. April is the end of the financial year for TakeTwo. Bit odd that they've released this in October, the game would also be completed by now since they are releasing a trailer only one week from now. It took 6-8months with GTAIV from announcement to first trailer. Could well see it sooner but still going for 2012.

Why not unveil it at this year's or next years E3 though or a different conference. You've also got Agent which is a PS3 exclusive which is supposed to be in development and developed by Rockstar. Thats gone a little quiet now though.

I just find the timing of the Announcement and Trailer date a little odd.

I don't know why, but the style of that V is making me think Washington DC. A huge part of these games has always been satirising American culture and they havent really done politics yet, I'd love to see their take on bent politicians. Shitloads of potential there.

Although I'd be more excited by an announcement for RDR 2, I'm still really looking forward to this. Naming it number five suggests this may be a big evolutionary step up from IV which is basically the same game as GTA3/Vice City but with a different skin. GTA has always been Rockstar's big flagship so I really think theyre going to blow everyone else out of the water with this. They're smart enough to have learned lessons from GTAIV, RDR and probably even Saints Row so I hope we see something truly unique.
