Manc in work just said the jury were swayed by public opinion because they were all in favour of the fans and against the police? What logic is that, I said lets leave it to the people who had 2 years to evaluate all the evidence to come to the proper conclusion. He said people are stupid... unbelievable

At least now we have this to shut these idiots up, now time for criminal prosecution of those responsible.
So essentially he'll only accept a verdict that blames the fans and not the authorities. This verdict has been reached in a court of law after a long drawn-out case examining all the evidence; it's not a friendly pat on the back to the families, LFC and the city of Liverpool.

His tribal antipathy for a rival sports team has made him think and feel less like a human being. He needs to consider whether the callous insensitivity and wilful-ignorance-or-worse of MacKenzie, Ingham et al is the right place to plant himself on this issue.

The jury's job was to deliver the truth, and justice, not to please.

With the greatest respect, it's been focused on and quoted several times now and I believe it to be highly irrelevant to today. Please can we leave it.

I am not related to Liverpool in any manner apart from supporting LFC. I have not contributed anything for this apart from tweeting/posting messages supporting the 96 every year. Still I get a lump on my throat reading the verdicts with a feel that we have achieved something.

Although 27 years is too long, finally justice has been delivered. I just want to hug all the relatives and friends of the 96.

Causes and times of death being read out.

3.15 cut off point shown up for the fiction that it is. Time of deaths put at much later. Significant in that it shows that cut off point (3.15) was totally arbitrary. Shows also many could have been saved. Emergency services open to prosecution perhaps?

Causes and times of death being read out.

I've ducked out of work and been crying on and off since the answers started being read out.

But a death at 4.33pm? I almost threw up. Another at any time between 3pm and 5pm. Horrible.

I can't fathom the depth of contrasting feelings of utter relief and anger the families must feel today hearing this.

I am an out-of-towner who has supported the club since childhood and as such only have the (most amazing, it must be said) pleasure of visiting whenever my time allows, so have no right to believe my words will mean anything to anyone from the City, but please believe me when I say from the heart that I have been in goosebumps all day leading up to and after the announcement.

Don't have the pleasure of knowing any of the families, but I would like to say that you have shown a strength and dignity that I could never hope to match myself and I am in awe of you and how you have coped throughout the years.

Now I fervently hope that those responsible will be brought to justice. The years of cowardly hiding the truth from the country and allowing the people, the club and the City of Liverpool to be hung out and pilloried for the years that elapsed since that day has come to an end. Justice will be served and people held accountable for their actions.

There's nothing else I can add above all that's all been said. All my love to you all as a father and a supporter.

Now we finally will have JFT96.

Unfortunately this is not a shock to me - my husband was lying with dead bodies well after 4pm - he was saved - therefore others could have been too.  Could never understand at the original inquests why people like my husband were never called to give evidence - to blow the 3.15 cut off out of the water

What the Hillsborough verdicts have revealed to us today is that, before Liverpool had even buried its dead or come to terms with its loss, a massive, co-ordinated and high level operation had swung into place against us.

This operation went far beyond mere damage limitation.  This was a concerted, pre-meditated action whose sole purpose was to denigrate the dead, create falsehoods and actively employ deceit with the goal of making the public at large believe that, somehow, supporters of Liverpool Football Club were responsible for their own deaths.

First came The Truth.

Today we have Justice.

Now must come Accountability.

Michael Owen is no Liverpool ambassador at all, wouldn't know a love for the club if it wrapped its arms around him.  I can't believe that a man given such a high-profile role in the club wouldn't have this as the first thing on his mind as he disembarks a plane on social media.  An absolute weapon.

Further than that, how can anyone not have this at the forefront of their mind today?  I'm just sat here in disbelief at so many things.

Is there anyone out there who can put together a really good petition

Not necessary - Cameron has praised the efforts of the campaigners.

From the Guardian,

On our comment site we have this piece by Julie Fallon, whose brother, Andrew Sefton, 23, died at Hillsborough.

Here’s an extract:

At the risk of invoking some of the many slurs thrown at both us and the city of Liverpool over the years, I feel I need to say that while it is an unpalatable truth for a portion of the population and one that they would really rather not hear or accept, it is the shameful truth that for the vast majority of the past 27 years, we the families, the survivors and the fans, were systematically and maliciously bullied, intimidated, manipulated, lied to and lied about.

We were used for personal and political gain, marginalised and publicly vilified by those in our country who were placed in positions of power and influence, which were primarily designed to support, protect and administer our fundamental rights.

"What's passive smoking? There's passive lots of things. Like passive listening to shitheads. I have to put up with that every day. Are you going to ban people from talking crap? The joy will come but right now I am just relieved. 27 years and finally here we are, finally a massive step to justice is delivered. There are no winners, but the tenacity, resoluteness, grit and determination of the families and campaigners alike to get to this point can only be applauded. Well done, really well done. YNWA!

I'm torn on where we go from here, because I can't help but feel the ones who are truly, horribly responsible for the very worst of what transpired during and after the event, always worm their way out and get some less culpable figures to take the fall.

I'm sorry to be bringing such jaded vibes, but I want that rag put out of print, and the politicians and higher-ups in the police who knew exactly what they were doing with the cover-up and the smears need to be fully held to account.

The word hero gets thrown about a lot nowadays. It's almost losing it's meaning with how diluted it has become but these people involved with this, the families, the survivors, the people who never stopped for 27 long years, they are true heroes. They will never be forgotten for their fight when this countries Government and Media tried to bury them with lies, lies and more lies

i have sat here this morning with a sense of dread hoping that past injustices would be overturned but worried about the outcome.

Just a sense of relief at the verdicts but increasing anger at the collective negligence and lack of care from Sheffield Wednesday, the police, and emergency services that so many lives could have been saved through better planning and control but also in the immediate aftermath of the crush.

No words of anger or contempt can express what i feel for those bastards responsible for the death of our fans. I pray every week that SWFC lose against whoever they are playing and hope we never have to play at their shithole stadium ever again

Today the jury has vindicated us and put the blame squarely where it lies. This is unprecedented and a massive victory for all those who carried on fighting . History will now show who was to blame that day and vindicate the survivors, families and fans, let's lap up the warm waters and enjoy today for what it is. A hard won fantastic Victory. Tomorrow we will still need to lift the blanket and shine light on the darkness and those that scurry under there.

Justice for the 96.
