After hearing it mentioned a few times, I downloaded an episode, and thought it was, well, shite.

However, given all these rave reviews, I'm more than willing to give it another go - is it beneficial to 'get to know' the characters?

yea, curb your enthusiasm is great, the later episodes are starting to push the envelope a bit more and the show is progressively getting funnier and funnier....  Personally, I think it is better to get to know some of the characters, especially LD and his manager, give it another chance, its fucking hillarious.  3rd season just came out on DVD over here, im about to go pick it up...

If you like the Office, you'll like Curb. But it takes a few watches to get into, and it can be hit and miss. But when it hits, such as the porn party, it's unbelievably good...

Radio 4 reviewed the Seinfeld DVD box-set recently, and spoke at length about Larry David. Apparently he's been doing the American stand-up circuit since the late sixties, and is dubbed "the King of the caper". Oh, and ladies, he's also worth $600m..

I feckin' love, 'Curb', but I loathe Seinfeld wiith a passion - it's truly abysmal tosh.  Is this right ? ???

Agree

Seinfeld is utter gash, cant understand people who say its best thing ever (Gervais what you doing fella?)... I love the Family Guy episode that takes this piss out of seinfeld... Stickler ticker stickler tickler

The funniest thing never to make one of those C4 'Top 100 Funniest Things'. Surpassed -maybe- by the restaurant-opening scene at the end of S3?

Curb is an absolutely brilliant comedy, got all 3 series copied on DVD after reading an interview with Ricky Gervais in which he mentioned it. Never even watched Seinfeld before.

Larry always reminds me of an American Victor Meldrew for some reason. Think my fave episode is the one with the doll's heads, especially at the end where he hides the water bottle in his kecks.

Multi-multi award-winning comedy by Seinfeld creator, Larry David - heard nothing but good things about it, but yet to see it myself. Was getting sick of being asked "have you seen...?"

Anyway, now E4 will be showing it, although not sure if it's from series one (it's up to series four in the States).

On next Thursday at 11.10 (so straight after Six Feet Under - the televisual equivalent of sleeping with one twin as the other undresses and gets ready for you!*  ;D )

* Unfortunately, this is an analogy based purely on my imaginiation!  ;D

I've seen 5 episodes of the show and they were all superb. As far as I'm concerned HBO have earned the best reputation in the business. Every series they make turns to gold (Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Sex and the City etc. etc. etc.).

PS: Paul you should check out Trailer Park Boys too, it's the best comedy series of all time along with Seinfeld (and possible Family guy). It's a purely Canadian production, filmed in Dartmouth Nova Scotia (eastern maratimes).

PSS: Just a techincality, you said "series one, series four", the correct terminology here is season 1, 4 etc. The series is a term which encompases every episode of the show that has been aired.

You can get Curb S1&2 in the HMV sale at the moment- something like £17-18 each. Similar prices online, generally.

Bollocks...

HMV - Between £18 and £20 depending on how new it is.

Ebay - Somewhere between American and Asian discs, which I don't fancy the thought of. I would like to be able to watch them upstairs, on my DVD which is region 2 and VERY sure about it. I'm pretty sure it wont play DVDs bought outside of Liverpool.

Amazon - £13-£18 depending on age. I never have luck with Amazon. They had to resend a book and 2 dvds I ordered about 4 times before the bastarding thing got here. Since then, I've not been a fan.

Play.com - £14 delivered for the first 3 seasons. each. Might as well go with that then.

Bollocks, was really hoping I could get two of them. Nobody fancy helping a young lad going through more than the average amount of teenage shite bring some humour back into his life?

Fair enough then. Couldn't go to her place any way, not for a few weeks. Her sister knows me too well, I used to be mates with her big sister's best mate. Wait until my name has been thrown about a bit before I start invading the couch.

That could be an option, Xmas is rolling round and the dvd downstairs and PC are multi-regional. Didn't fancy it, but I'm up for it.
