Noooooooo, only two more episodes left.

I read the book a long time ago so forgotten the details - the Vulcan incident was most unexpected.

Might tackle this over the weekend. Been waiting to be in the right frame of mind as I imagine it's a bit of a head melt.

Well happy Amazon now have it available in 4K.

Book reference, no spoiler at all, just know people hate mere mention of books from my time as GOT fan
Spoiler
Vulcan wasn't in the book. Whole episode was original content I think. That it felt natural only testament to what a good job they're doing. (Although just reading it seems like Gaiman came up with Vulcan for this series too)

Is this a book thing? The show at least makes it clear that they are Gods in America.

They are Gods, just not the gods you grew up with. The Greek and Norse gods were fallible deities that were reflections for humans and the problems they faced.

again, if people who've read the books are going to throw some comments in, can you spoiler them for the benefit of those who aren't familiar with the source material and want to keep it that way.

None of this is spoilerish as far as I can tell. You should be able to figure out which of the old Gods is which. The new ones have been reasonably explained too.

Just watched the first episode .... wow.

Talk about a deep loaded cast. Recognise virtually every character. Jay from Kingdom, Sparkle Motion lady off Donnie Darko, Pornstache from Orange Is The New Black, Freddy Rumsen from Mad Men getting swallowed by a vagina .... it's all there !!!

No idea what it's about yet ... but I love it !

2 episodes down and it's the best thing I've seen for ages.

Just going to enjoy it for what it is the first time, then have a second watch to actually try and make sense of what's going on.

Looks amazing in 4K

It's one of those shows where there's so much detail that a second watch is still enjoyable... even better with subtitles on, you catch exactly what they're saying.

I've watched 5 now. It's actually a lot easier to follow than I thought it would be.

Absolutely bonkers like, but I'm following the overall gist of it having never read any of the source material.

I know that. Still, one's an Irish mythical creature, and the other is Persian (if I'm not mistaken). Not really gods.

I'm just splitting hairs here.

Yeah I think they're running more with "Gods" as a substitute for "something people believed in" but that's a good point.

Thought tonight's episode was brilliant. Slightly reminiscent of the LA ep of Fargo from a few weeks ago. That one split opinion, but I'd wager most will like this one.

No, the main points are the Gods themselves. The other supernatural players are just that. They aren't meant to be gods.

Correct - which is why they are bit players and treated with such disrespect

"Ginger minge" <----- one of the best lines ever :lmao

PS: Started listening to the audiobook - it's very different from the TV show - double bonus 'cos both are great  :lickin

Mad Sweeney is the funniest character I've seen on TV in a long time.

"Dead Woif" gets me every time..... and "flange". Haven't heard that in years.

Nearly every sentence he says is hilarious.

Episode 7, up there with episode 4 as the best of the series for me.......and again focussing on the terrific Emily Browning......gutted there's only one ep left in this run...wonderful, imaginative TV and just about the best thing on the box right now

I loved the choice of 60's doo whop music throughout. Don't think I've ever watched anything on TV that has looked so good. Budget must have been insane.

'Big focka ain't he?'

He was always good in that, series went downhill after he went.

The love/hate relationship between him and 'dead woif' is brilliant.

Both actors knocking it out of the park.

I usually worry about episodes that dedicate themselves to events outside the main plot but it was still strong.

Well seeing as I knew nothing about it before the weekend, I would be surprisingly devastated !

It might be a bit too out there for huge viewing figures though.

Good news: It's been renewed for a second season.  8)

Some early ratings: "the first season of the mythological fantasy drama had some inspiration undoubtedly from the 975,000 viewers who watched its 9 PM debut on April 30. That solid Live + Same Day result is one of the best original series debuts Starz has ever had. Over all three of its debut weekend plays, “The Bone Orchard” episode of American Gods snagged 1.4 million viewers. In delayed viewing and on multiple platforms, American Gods‘s first episode has garnered more that 5 million viewers total so far."

"I look at him doing all sorts of crazy shit and mostly I burst out laughing at his insane genius.
I mean, if his first reaction to a ball bouncing in front of him 40 yards from goal is 'I'm going to whack this into the net from here', you just have to laugh at the sheer improbability of it all."

Just watched episode 6 and wondered who the actor who played Vulcan was.

Holy Shit...It's only bloody Corbin Bernstein.

Not seen him since LA Law a good 25 odd years ago

You might want to give Psych a try, Pete. It's not my cup of tea, but the mrs loves it (and she married me, so obviously has excellent taste), but he's in that quite a bit.

Absolutely bonkers as per usual ... loved every minute.

Easter MILF, squashed bunny rabbits, Jesus(s)

How they portrayed the Jesus(s) without it being hugely offensive was genius. It was funny as hell.

Really going to miss it.
