So what sort of rebuilding job have Manchester Utd got on their hands?
Let's run through their depth chart. Highlighted players are those whose positions are safe, are young enough to have a few more years at the "top", do not want to leave and do not need to be urgently upgraded. I've put it in 4-4-2, as that what "The Gaffer" prefers, although, as we've seen, his assistant Ole has proven to be flexible on formations (has no tactical plan):
------------------------DDG
RomeroYoung--------
Lindelof-------Smalling-------
FatsoDalot Jones Bailly Rojo
Lingard--------
Fred-------Pogba-Pogba----?
??
Mata Matic Herrera
McTomtom Perreira--------------
Rashford------
Martial Lukaku Sanchez
So by my calculations (with estimates based on a bit of savvy in the transfer market) they need:
New GK starter (60m)
New RB starter (50m)
New CB starter (70m)
New CB backup (30m)
New RW starter (60m)
New RW backup (30m)
New CM starter (70m)
New LW starter (60m)
New LW backup (30m)
New FW backup (30m)
So that'll be about £500m on 6 starters and 4 decent squad players. Obviously they'll get a decent wedge back from sales of the likes of Carlton Pogba, Lukaku and Rojo, but it's still an overhaul.
Who can we see coming in?
T-Rex (60m)?
Koulibaly (100m)?
Bale (100m)?
Joao Felix (80m)?
I can't see anything wrong with this masterplan. They'll be back challenging by 2020/21 season for sure?
