Would it not be 5-4.5 for a 10-9 round?  Or does it go down in quarters?  So, would 5-4.75 be 10-9, 5-4.5 be 10-8 etc? And do they score knockdowns the same way?

Genuinely curious, never really thought about it before.

I assume the ref would knock off 1/4 point for a knockdown or a foul deduction?

going on about Cooper's left hook all night like it was such a killer.  He landed that left hook to the body a few times and Bugner didn't seem that bothered.

How dare you! That left hook was 'Enery's 'Ammer, the one that put The Greatest on his arse, briefly, before he got up and gave poor old Cooper a whuppin'.

Looked up Bugner's record and didn't realise he only retired in 1999.  69 wins (41 kos) - 1 draw and 13 losses. Lost 2 world title fights on points  to Ali and had a great fight with Smokin' Joe. He'd have been a world champ in another era

;D  Yeah that kind of thing.

He was unlucky to have peaked in the 70s for sure.  Ali had a lot of respect for him from what I read.  It was much harder to win world titles back then because there weren't 10 different belts at each weight, partly why this fight for the British title was such a big deal.

A bit embarrassing to have losses to two different generations of the Frazier family though ;D

I had it 144 - 142 for Cooper but I'm ok with Bugner getting it, especially considering how close the scores were

Lots of rounds very hard to score. Bugner fought like he had one hand for a lot of the fight but those jabs were scoring shots. Had he let some right hands go I think he would have won this comfortably. whenever he threw to the body he bothered Henry

Barrera v Morales

Round 1
Straight down to it no pissing about. Brilliant first round, plenty of trading and hard shots landed. Barrera ahead for most of the first part of the round but by the end it feels like Morales has got ahead and Barrera is waiting too long to get his shots off and missing while Morales picks him off.

Barrera 9-10 Morales

Round 2
Good first half from Barrera making Morales miss and landing good combinations and shots. Cuter and cleverer. Then they start to trade and Barrera begins to land the better harder shots as well, some good ones to the body especially. Again Barrera doesn’t do a lot in the last minute but has this round won already.

Barrera 19-19 Morales

Round 3
Morales getting off first and Lands some good shots in the first minute or so, Barrera choosing to pick him off with a few shots but falling behind. Barrera targets the body and digs some vicious shots in then they trade for most of the brilliant last minute, with Morales landing more for me.

Barrera 28-29 Morales

Round 4
A lull for the first half of the round a bit scrappy. Barrera probably does the cleaner work with Morales seeming to land on the gloves a lot. A tough round to score but think Barrera just did better work and got the better of the end of round trade off. Barrera has landed a few low ones in his pursuit of the body.

Barrera 38-38 Morales

Round 5
What a round. Morales batters him for 2 mins landing some great punches, then Barrera grits his teeth and turns it on its head briefly before a quieter last min with Morales on top again. Big round for Morales

Barrera 47-48 Morales

Round 6
Again a cleverer round from Barrera, it seems when he makes Morales come to him he’s able to pick him off, not as exciting but. Not a lot in the second half quite tough to score again. Could be even but think Barrera did enough in the first part of the round.

Barrera 57-57 Morales

Round 7
Morales dominant for the majority landing far more shots. A couple of good trade offs where Barrera has some success but easy one to score for Morales.

Barrera 66-67 Morales

Round 8
Some great action. Back and forth some great standing and trading at points. Barrera getting the best of it for me.

Barrera 76-76 Morales

Round 9
Barrera lands some big shots in the first minute, really hurtful stuff. Then Morales bosses the second minute landing some great stuff with little coming back. Morales looked in trouble right at the end after some hard shots from Barrera but still fired back. Really difficult to score. Barrera definitely landed the more damaging stuff, but Morales seemed to land more. Incredible round. Just think Barrera pulls it out at the end when he hurts him in the last 10 seconds.

Barrera 86-85 Morales

Round 10
Bit scrappy not a lot of clean stuff in the first half. Morales landing more. They then go toe to toe with initially Morales on top before being hurt again by some vicious Barrera punches. Morales then finishes the round better

Barrera 95-95 Morales

Round 11
All Morales until he gets hurt to the body a couple of times in the last 30 secs but easy to give that round to Morales.
Some of the crowd shots through the fight are great like they can’t believe what they’re watching. It’s that kinda fight.

Barrera 104-105 Morales

Round 12
Clear Barrera thinks he’s behind as he comes out landing big shots, walking Morales down, and hurting him again. Morales with eyes closing ever the warrior then comes back with some good shots of his own.
With 45 seconds left Barrera hurts him again and as they come together Morales is off balance and goes down without a proper punch landing. He was definitely hurt in the build up but there wasn’t really a punch landing at the time he goes down so it’s a tough one but should be scored. However it’s the only thing that separates them so perhaps it should be a draw. A great toe to toe exchange to finish.

Barrera 114-113 Morales

I remember thinking at the time it was one of the best fights I’d ever watched and re watching for the first time in years has absolutely backed that up. Two absolute warriors who gave everything that night.
Watched it without sound this time so no idea how the Comms had it but was free of their influence.

I’ve always had Barrera just winning but not solely because of the last round knock down. I’ve always had him ahead going into the last round or no worse than even, so it’s come out closer than I recall but given the knock down should have officially been scored I find it hard to have Morales any better than a draw.
Round 9 is the round I could potentially call even rather than Barrera which would make it a draw, but can’t see a way Morales wins despite how tight it is. 115-112 with a knock down is a bad card, but there’s no more than a point in it for me either way so it’s not quite the robbery I once thought it was.

Never seen the fight before only highlights

Had Barrera winning 116-114

The KD was bogus but it was counted so you have to give 10-8 to Barrera. Had it even going into the final round. I don't know how that judge had it 115-112 to Marales when you take into account the knockdown.

In my score I had 3 even rounds so if you give those to Morales it is a win by 1 round but yeah, I think Morales got away with one in this fight.

I also gave it 114-113 to Barrera. It's tight though so I have no qualms if some of you lads gave it to Morales. It's a round here and there.

Bit busy this weekend so just watched it and what a fight this is! A brutal war between two all time greats and, although I've seen it before, it's always worth another watch.
Unlike Hagler v Leonard, my opinion has never changed on this one. Great start from Barrera, Morales taking most of the middle rounds (amazing 5th round!!) and then a grandstand finish.
I had Barrera a round in front going into the 12th so my score is 117-114 in favour of the Baby Faced Assassin. Even though many of the rounds were close I thought the knockdown sealed it.

Never a bad one to watch Ward-Gatti, but was it that controversial? (Honestly can’t remember).

Was going to suggest Lennox Lewis v Ray Mercer. Haven’t watched it since it happened. Remember it being really close and one of the better heavyweight fights

Maybe do both? Anyone got any other suggestions?

From memory I don't think it was mate. Micky Ward got the majority decision in the first fight.

I think it was Welshred who suggested Calzaghe v Hopkins for the rewatch. That would be interesting to see after all these years.

I suggested that. Welshred reckoned there was no controversy

Before this I've never watched fights that have gone to decision unless I watched it live. Really enjoying seeing these fights for the first time.

I'm happy to watch any suggestions but would prefer to stick to controversial/razor thin decisions.

Three on my list that I would like to get to at some point are Degale v Groves, Mayweather v Castillo 1 and Hopkins v Calzaghe

I'm a bit late here but I gave it MAB by 116 - 111, pretty clear.

That said, so many close rounds it could go either way. A lot of rounds where I think MAB had the best moments but Morales was on top for more of the 3 minutes. The 115 card to Morales is some bullshit though.

I don't have extensive notes on this one because I was glued to it! Great choice.

So, just watched the Mayweather v Castillo fight and I had it 114-113 Castillo. Razor thin fight and the scorecards in favour of Mayweather were kinda silly. If you give it to him by a point or two ok, but 4 and 5 points. Nah, not for me. Really good fight. The ones that have really put it on Mayweather are the pressure fighters, nobody else has even had a real look in. You need to be on his grill for the  entirety of the 12 rounds

I would really like to continue looking over these fights but I think an advanced timetable will be good, until the footy is back, just another 3/4 fights until mid June

A short article on the debacle that was Naz v Barrera. No one will ever convince me Naz wouldn’t have won if the fight had taken place pre 99 or if he had still been focused and training properly. However only has himself to blame and got what he deserved on the night. I just feel this is the overriding memory of Naz and people forget how brilliant he was
