Very disappointing from Sporting John just then, found absolutely nothing. Wasn’t particularly impressed with Fiddlerontheroof either who was all out the get up on the line.

Do you know who to, or who he’ll be in training with?

JP according to Twitter. Likely to stay in England and probably with Hendo apparently.

Interesting. Wonder who else was bidding, thought he’d end up with Ricci and Mullins

I think Ricci would’ve liked him but he rarely ever shells out the sums needed to buy the very top ones. Gigginstown, Robcour and JP have been dominating the sales ring for a bit. Ricci usually buys diamonds in the rough from points and France and then Mullins polishes them.

True, they definitely do get a fair number from France. Wondered whether Cheveley Park might have been in for him as well. They’re clearly moving into the jumps more permanently, now they can’t compete on the flat

Hendo would be a great shout if he's at his brothers level.

He's a great handler of a top class horse and also of fragile horses. If Douvan is anything to go by Jonbon will need to be handled delicately.

What I don't understand about Cheveley Park is they seem to be spending more money on their jumps horses than they ever did on the flat  ;D

Not sure what sort of level money they bought flat horses at. But a top jumps horse is a few hundred thousand, a top flat horse a few million (very roughly speaking), so their money perhaps goes further over the jumps in terms of the top talent being affordable?

Also notice Farouk D’Alene is out again tomorrow at Fairyhouse

Don't think they ever paid top dollar on the flat. Maybe they see themselves as being a Coolmore/Godolphin equivalent over the jumps (minus the breeding of course).

Yep there's a few nice ones out tomorrow. Does He Know in the Ballymore is one I'll be keeping an eye on for the year.

I’ve always been reluctant to tip my own fancies, for all the obvious reasons.

But I’m having a small e/w interest on Presenting Yeats in the opener at Cheltenham tomorrow @20/1. His form is modest, but with a good claimer taking another 5lbs off, he’s got under 10 stone to carry, and he’s stayed on in all his races over 2 miles having been outpaced, so 2 miles 5 might just be up his street.

That’ll teach me to keep my thoughts to myself🤭

Outpaced at the top of the hill and hard ridden; and though he stayed on through beaten horses, he’s obviously slow, maybe needs even further in a lower grade. Ah well.

Not sure we'll see Tiger Roll on a racecourse again. He got beat out of sight on the flat and he never went a yard today. Wouldn't back him with your money if he does run again.

Agree. Been a fabulous racehorse, won the Triumph at 4, and the rest was a fairytale. Pity about the owner, but the horse neither chose him, nor knew what an arsehole he is.

Some top racing at Cheltenham & Punchestown both days this weekend. Looking forward to seeing Latest Exhibition again, also Darver Star v Felix Desjy looks a good race. I’d have been more interested in the Morgiana had Saldier been declared. Another I’ve been waiting to see over a fence is The Big Breakaway who looks like he starts over 3m on Sunday, reckon he could be an RSA contender.
However none are backable prices so probably only bet for the weekend will be Simply the Betts in the PP gold cup, not the most original and has a lot of weight, but his beating of Imperial Aura looks really good and he has great course form

My picks for Cheltenham over the weekend:

Saturday 1:40

Zarkareva 2pt win 10/1

De Bromhead looks to have aimed another progressive filly here after winning this with eventual Arkle winner Put The Kettle On last season. She’s improving rapidly with each start and I expect the hill to really suit her today.

Sunday 1:50 West Approach 1pt win 7/2 & Discorama 1pt win 9/2

West Approach won this last year after similar prep and loves the old course. Discorama has a great record at Cheltenham without winning, this will be a proper slog with the rain due and he should love it.

Sunday 2.25 Put The Kettle On 1pt win 11/4

She just looks overpriced on what she achieved last season especially with the forecast rain.

Sunday 3:00 Thyme White 2pt win 13/2 & Cormier 3pt win 18/1

Nichols horses always run well in this and he’s won it twice with a 4 year old. Thyme White was running a big race in the Fred winter before weakening quickly. Brian Ellison has a great record in the race also and Cormier’s connections won it a few years back, looks to have been laid out for it.

You’d think he’d make up into a 3 mile chaser in time too, looks a beast! In good hands with Gavin Cromwell as well.

Definitely, Cromwell knows how to look after a nice one.

Latest Exhibition just got put in his place there by Pencilfulloflead. Now, the latter looks a nice type for an RSA but you’d hope more than a 7th length beating if you’re Nolan.

As one disappoints another steps forward. The Big breakaway jumped really well despite hitting a couple of flat spots and won well. Will be much stiffer tests but a good start

Gary Moore could have another nice juvenile hurdler. Keep an eye on the one that won by 59 lengths today. Who knows what it beat but he started Goshen off in the race last year.

25/1 for the triumph looks big after that, even if he beat little. If he was trained by Henderson he’d be fav

Few for Dundalk today.

2:45 - I feel Red Cymbal & Maggie Thunder will both take each other on at the front and make this a proper gallop with Mi Esperanza also likely to be close up. I feel the pace could collapse and the one I believe this should suit is Too Hard To Hold. On my figures this gelding is right up there. He's been running admirably on the turf & has had a decent run over C&D that he could build on.

Too Hard To Hold 2pt win 8/1 (Various)

4:50 - I'm double handed here as again I expect a fast tempo up front and feel Tyrconnel & Count of Carabass will be the ones to take advantage. Both have posted figures amongst the best in this field.

Tyrconnel 1pt win 9/2 Bet365
Count of Carabass 2pt win 14/1 Bet365

Jumps/AW P/L: -21.8 (shite but trusting the process!)

One for Dundalk today:

4:10 2pt win 17/2 Latchet

Tipped this Mare last week as she looked to be getting prepped up to win one. I might have caught her one race too early and this is her day. Top jockey booking in Gavin Ryan in this apprentice race, she should go well.

Is this Nassalam?

Watched an interview with Gary Moore this afternoon - he mentioned that the clock doesn’t lie, and despite not knowing what the horse beat, the time was the fastest clocked over course and distance that afternoon. A 3 year old, on its second ever appearance, hmmm...

Nice win for Percy today, over Kemboy & Monalee, but he did have race fitness over both, so be interesting to see if he’s able to maintain that advantage when they presumably reoppose each other over Christmas

Yes that’s the one. Noticed it was a faster time than the novice hurdle but the same as the handicap hurdle on the card. Really surprised even though he’s not with a big trainer that he’s not been cut shorter as bookies usually completely destroy antepost prices after a victory like that

Looking forward to these and seeing how Chantry House gets on at Ascot. Think Ferny Hollow could be vulnerable first time up against De Bromheads

The champion bumper starting to look a little suspect. 3rd, 4th and 5th all beaten recently, Bob Olinger has shortened a fair bit this evening but if he gets bigger tomorrow I might be interested in taking on Ferny Hollow, who took a couple of runs to get going last season and wasn’t the Mullins no1 going into the bumper.

Few selections for Dundalk today:

6:00 Never Back Down 1pt win 4/1 (Various) & Homecoming 3pt win 14/1 (Bet365)

There is a lot of pace on in this race and I believe it will suit both of these horses nicely. Both are drawn well and I’m hoping one can pick up the pieces when the pace collapses in front of them late on.

6:30 Pillar 1pt win 4/1 (various)

Case for this one is almost the opposite to the previous selections in that I expect him to make all here. His major contest for the lead will be coming from way out in Stall 16 in the form of Bay Of Skail, I fully expect Pillar to bag the rail & lead from far better draw. Even if he doesn’t the effort from Bay of Skail to get it from 16 should be too much for him to win.

Jumps/AW P/L: -28.8pts - in a bad run currently, but choosing to remain positive!

Not much between Ferny hollow and Bob Olinger there, but Ferny Hollow always looked like picking him off over the last two. A long way clear of the third.

Decent enough start from Chantry House, but with Pic D’ohy coming down 3 out it spoiled what might have been a closer finish
