Its the snob in us I guess  ;D

Which is sad really as Liverpool fans because if you know your salt about our history....and you should if you're a real fan, you should know that some of our very best players came from lower leagues and became superstars here.

I know the game has changed somewhat, but the point remains that we have a very good scouting system in place, and a very good manager whose hit rate has been excellent with transfers recently, including from the 'lesser' teams.

People shouldn't even question who we are signing players from at this point given what Klopp has done.

But in all honesty, even with the snobbery, the Shaq one confuses me.  He's a clearly really talented player.  Thats always been there to see, regardless of his old club.

Yeah I personally wanted Liverpool to sign him from Basel years ago. That he's arrived and delayed via Stoke is just one of those things.

He's definitely impressed since he's come in. It makes such a difference for him playing in this kind of team where there is so much movement.

I think he'll probably find himself on the bench come Sunday but it's just great to have someone of his quality as an option. Same for sturridge if he can remain fit, compare this to Solanke and Ings as options last year.

Charlie Adam getting stuck into shaqiri in the press today

He should try humble pie instead, after geting relegated

Not having that at all, Adam should stay well sets from anything pie related.

If he works hard which Klopp will demand he's a £40m player minimum.

Strength - check
Pace - Check
Passing - Check
End product - Check
Tactical side - Can improve (where coaching is most effective)
Work rate - The one area he needs to improve on from his Stoke days.

I can see him having the same impact as Benayoun. Coming from a club lower in the league, and being more integral than we originally thought.

Definitely feel a cult hero status coming along for him.

Hello everyone. I am quite obviously new here but just wanted to say that i am really happy that you have Xherdan at your club now, I know him really well and he is one of the nicest people you are ever likely to meet. He is funny, kind hearted and passionate and you have yourselves a really talented player that will do amazing things for you. Do not worry about his work rate or the horrible things people have said about him, there were a lot of things that happened at Stoke that people don’t know about and just like to see the negative side of him. Anyway, I hope you have great success this season. You are an incredible club with incredible support and manager.

I posted on some other thread but when we first became aware of his buy-out clause, Andreas Kornmayer and Mona Nemmer then both gave Shaqiri a glowing character reference from their time together at Bayern, apparently.

For Stoke? Because he was far too good a player for them to begin with and the only way to get him was to say ‘yeah alright if we get relegated you can pretty much leave for nowt’ I imagine
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Relegation clause, something I didn’t know existed until my Stokie mate mentioned it.

Understandable, really. Little gutted for him though. Proper miserable bastard around the office.

That's what I've been led to believe too. Don't think he'd have been £13 million if Stoke were still in the Premier League.

Yeah i'd say he traded up ;)

If you told Shaqiri he'd join us at beginning of last season if Stoke got relegated he'd have scored 42 own goals to make certain.

Looks so happy to be here and usually players this happy do well. He doesn't look nervous just will enjoy it. He's been boss so far.

I'm sure he had hope.
He said himself that a move to us was on the cards last Summer, but didn't materialize in time. If we had our way, this could've been his 2nd season.

Could be. I could have interpreted it wrong.
Just goes to show what sort of players we could have gotten after we sold Luis. It was all unnecessary and for me, it culminated with the 6-1 loss at Stoke. Still irks me that! A horrific end to a stellar career for our captain as well. :(

The mad acquisition and pursuit of the likes Ballotelli, Lambert, Benteke.. and some others around the pitch; while we were well aware of, showed interest and were even offered the likes of Mane, Shaqiri, Van Dijk and dicked around with Salah.. and while Achterberg were waxing lyrical about an unknown lad called Allisson.

So unnecessary- the disconnect between the manager and the Committee.

In any case- it's a chapter that's closed now and we've learned from it I suppose.
