I just got a year's sub for Nord (actually 472 days), been spot on so far. Good for 6 devices.
I've just taken out a subscription with Nord VPN, 3 years for $99.

I have it running on my mac and my android phone.

Ipvanish atm.

After checking reviews I always go for the cheapest no logs offer at that moment that also works on a fire stick.

Pure vpn have 3yrs for $69,not sure how that price stacks up against the others, just had a quick look on uk hotdeals.

Digibit also gets a lot of love & you pay that monthly,£2.50 a month but if you go onto the site you will get a 25% off code.

So have got it all set up on my Mac this morning (using OpenVPN/TunnelBrick).

Did a speedtest before connecting to a Manchester server and my download was 637 Mbps with a 458 Mbps upload. After connecting to the VPN this dropped to a 40 Mbps download and 59 Mbps upload.

For £2/m I can't complain really, but it's massively noticeable on my Mac how much it's slowed down my browsing. Thankfully I mainly bought it for use on the Firestick, which is connected over WIFI anyway so will be much slower connection as it is, will give it a go on there later streaming some HD content and see how it gets on.

Mine is like that, download 210Mbps and 50Mbps with a VPN. Download is only 10Mbps with or without a VPN tho!

^ Zenmate seems to be working ok for me. Pornhub is working fine too ;)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10+ simple, reliable (in my humble opinion) and free VPN chrome-based web browser extensions - and with multiple choices of country - from the Chrome Web Store, are:-

• Touch VPN - no email registration required
• Astar VPN - no email registration required
• Hola VPN - no email registration required
• Hotspot Shield Free - no email registration required
• Browsec Free VPN - no email registration required
• VeePN - no email registration required
• UltraSuft VPN - no email registration required
• Windscribe (2gb of data allowance per month) - no email registration required
• Betternet Unlimited VPN Proxy - no email registration required
• Zenmate - email registration is required
• uVPN - email registration is required
• SetupVPN - email registration is required
• DotVPN - email registration is required

^ Sometimes having multiple free VPN extensions may cause conflicts with each other on your web browser... even when turned off. So having a 2nd chrome-based web browser may well be worth having - and only installing certain free VPN extensions on them...

The Opera web browser has a built-in free VPN service (highly rated - free and no email registration required etc) - though you will have to use the Opera web browser with it :)

Some good free 'ip checker' websites to see if your free VPN extension is actually working as it should... (turn on the free VPN service first ;)):-

https://whatismyipaddress.com
https://ipleak.net
https://www.whatismyip.com
https://www.iplocation.net
https://surfshark.com/what-is-my-ip

Seemingly, and according to others, some of the good value-for-money and reliable subscription / pay-for VPN services are:-

https://nordvpn.com
https://www.expressvpn.com
https://surfshark.com
https://protonvpn.com
https://www.ipvanish.com

Some good web browsers for security / privacy (these things change over time and are often subjective depending on what you are looking for from your browser - sometimes it is simply a balancing act (or going with what works for you):-

• Tor Browser
• Firefox
• SRW Iron
• Brave
• Opera (has a built-in free VPN service too)

Some good online search engines - that don't filter or block your searches (it is always worth checking the 'settings' for online search engines if you after some privacy - and like everything listed up in this post... read up on them and determine what is best for yourself - it may not be what others are using...):-

https://duckduckgo.com
www.startpage.com
www.ecosia.org
www.qwant.com
https://peekier.com
www.searchencrypt.com/home
https://swisscows.com
https://searx.me
www.mojeek.com
www.kiddle.co - 'Safe visual search engine for kids' (uses google search)

A few decent internet speed check websites:-

https://www.speedtest.net
https://speedof.me
https://testmy.net
http://internethealthtest.org
https://speedsmart.net

I'll try my best to remember to keep this post updated - for it to hopefully be of some use, help or relevancy...

It may be best not to quote or copy this post - as it'll soon contain out-of-date info / broken links etc cluttering up this thread - despite being replaced by new & improved content.

Thanks.

Going to the US for a week today and want to use SkyGo on the plane for the Football.

Any good VPNs that work with SkyGo? Don’t mind paying but ideally would only want to pay for a month and then cancel or a free trial and then cancel.

Digibit is only £2 a month, have a look at the page and then open another digibit page and you will get a pop up offering you 20% off, should be £2.50.

Not sure if it works with sky go or not but they do have servers especially for the BBCiPlayer,I only signed up for it drunk last night so i've not really had a chance to fully test how good it is,as far as I am aware,it is the only one that is monthly & you can pay with paypal.

SKY Broadband have been getting heavy on me lately regarding my Torrent usage. They seem to have got the hump since i cancelled my SKY moves and box set subscriptions. Wankers.

Had a few warnings.  Not sure how far they would take it if I kept getting warnings.

Anyhow just signed up with PIA (PrivateInternetAccess.com).  Got myself a 2-year VPN connection plus a Socks5 Proxy service for all my Zero Logs anonymous torrent needs all for £2/pm.  Ace value

Signed up. No hassle already connected and going to download a few movies and seed the fuck out of them all weekend. :)

Dear god the download speeds i am getting now are amazing.

Nah. I've got a 1GB connection (fibre direct to the apartment). Tend to hit speeds of 850-950 Mbps download when doing speedtests - not that all that is actually usable for the most part.

Quote
What is a gigabit connection?

The UK now has 95% coverage for superfast broadband with speeds of 24 megabits per second or higher. However, most superfast connections still depend on copper telephone wires, which are limited in the speeds they can support. For the fastest and most reliable broadband, capable of delivering gigabit speeds, a full fibre connection is required.

One gigabit is the same as 1,000 megabits – so it’s a big leap forward in connection speeds that could benefit you and your business into the future. Full fibre also supports symmetrical connections – meaning your upload and download speeds can be the same.

Wow. What sort of monthly fee does that come with?

Sky have just emailed me saying that between Dec and Mar they are moving me to Fibre Max.  Going from 36 up to 63 Mbps.

Its weird how the speed-tests when using the VPN show slower download speeds on normal speed-tests but browsing and downloading with the VPN is clearly much quicker

To be honest I'm not too arsed about speed really. Its the anonymity I want.

You have to make sure that you use the same server for both tests, though you're correct that vpns are a little slower.

It's around £50 a month. probably overkill for what I need (well, definitely overkill) but then I moved from somewhere that had ridiculously slow speeds (like 1.5-3 Mbps) so I wasn't passing up 1gb  ;D

VPN killed the speed though, massively so. Only turn it on now when needed and it's off the rest of the time.

Alright lads?

I'm basically just looking to watch American Netflix on my PS4 as Irish Netflix is fucking terrible.

I used to use a VPN from a site called "Unblock-US" but since Netflix cracked down on VPN's it lets me pull up the Netflix menu, I can see all the options but can't actually play any titles as it keeps saying "it seems you are using a VPN blocker".

Any way around this and can people help me? Cheers in advance, men.

Same as all the other paid vpns mate. You sign up for an account on their website, install the apps on the devices you use (up to 6 I think, all running at once),sign into the app (just the once) and then choose the server and country you want to use from the list.

I have a subscription with them and the download is like 30mbps. Nothing special but then again my ISP speed is 35mbps so no real loss in speed. Browsing actually feels faster.

I did.

I doubt that you will find a free one that does.

Oh not looking for a free one at all. I used to pay $5 a month for the one I was on before Netlfix started being a prick.

And the one you mentioned is only a Beta, yes? And you haven't tried it out? Was just hoping someone on here might already be using one is all pal, thank you.

The server is in beta but if it works as well as the iplayer one then it's perfect,it's only £2 a month so you can try it out and the worst that can happen is that you lose £2.

I don't have netflix so I could only test the iplayer server.

That's a fair point, mate. I shall report back with my findings in that case.

So I've had 3 emails from virgin warning me about downloading torrents so have decided to use a vpn again. Did a speedtest today, without the vpn is 200Mpbs but with the vpn is 10Mpbs. Is it normal to be that shite? I'm using Nord btw.
