Jars are things that are made of glass, packets are usually made from a variant of paper. Theres a slight difference :wave

Was just being overly critical, mate.

But yeah, jars are wank. The packs save a lot of tme and effort. Esp as not everyone has the specific ingredients needed to whip up a proper curry. Brought one of those spice packs a few weeks ago for a lamb curry...decided to add some frozen spinach to it and it was fuckin amazing

Around late April or early May, they need warmth to propogate, so keep your eye on the weather forecasts, if there is a warm week forecasted in your area (or even a 3 to 4 day stretch) then start planting.

If your going to try to grow them indoors then keep them on a window cill that receives sunlight in the afternoon as opposed to the morning time. Even in warm summer months, the morning sun is never as warm as the afternoon sun. If they are in the shade during the 3 to 6 pm timeframe then they aren't going to grow properly.

It depends on the type of chillie, and it also depends on weather you prefer them green, yellow or red. About 4 months is generally the time frame as long as the weather is reasonably good.

I posted this a few pages back, I hope it helps

Cheers, great help :)

I have Pinochhio's nose, Jalapenos, Cayenne, Red Savina and Assam Bhut Jolokia. The latter 2 are just for the hell of it.

Well, planted a few Wednesday before last. I know it's early but I want to test out how to do it, before the time. So when the time comes that we have decent weather, I already know. I have plants that are a couple of inches high at the moment, and the roots are starting to struggle to grow, so have just transferred them into individual pots.

I should have posted a picture of mine but I've lost the lead thingy that goes between the camera and puter, anyway, all dried out, blitzed and being used most days.

I'd post mine, but I don't have a digital camera, and I have on of the few fancy phones with shite cameras. Any idea where I can get a (fairly cheap) propagator with a taller lid? The one I've got ain't high enough to put plantpots in. Can't afford a greenhouse yet.

All good garden centre's will do them, I wouldn't put them out in a green house though, best results are from a window I'd say, well from what I've grown in the past.

Cheers. Only reason I'm after a greenhouse is that I want to grow quite a lot, and space isn't plentiful. At the moment, I'm growing in my room, on my windowsill.

Greenhouse last summer for us was brilliant- hot and humid. They grew into bushes with loads and loads of chillis. Just needed to have planted them a month or so earlier really (I did it mid June).

If we get as nice a summer as last, then having them in the greenhouse will be more than good enough.

Mate, how much did it cost you? Did you get a glass one? I definitely can't afford a glass one, but I sould be able to afford one of the other ones soon.

It's a proper glass one yeah. Was already in the garden when we bought the house, but over the years me and my bro had broken it whilst playing football. Last summer we decided to fix it. Cost £50 in all to replace the broken glass panels (of which there were quite a few) and tidied the inside up ready for growing.

I don't know about the little plastic ones you can get, but I guess they'd work as well (trap the heat and humidity), with the only difference being the space?

Used to grow them and little tomatoes, not done so for the last couple of years because we're normally on hols during the crucial final ripening picking period so it's a bit pointless.  Might try some again this year though.  Got quite a few pots of herbs out in the back yard too.

Can get a decent sized one for about £50. About 2m wide, 1.5m long. Considering it soon, but with the shite weather (woke up to frost again today), there isn't much point having the plants outside at the moment.

Oh no way- wait until late April/May for the move outdoors I'd say. I'm going to plant the chillis indoors when it starts becoming a bit sunnier and warmer, then move them outdoors once the summer starts. Hoping for some really hot days this summer. We deserve them considering the shite winter.

Even better, by then I'll definitely be able to afford it. I think I'm going to grow properly then, right now, I don't actually know what I'm doing ;D

still eating Dried ones from last years debut attempt and have some left frozen. The Tabasco plant has survived all though winter (indoors) and I am taking (slightly wrinkled) fresh fruits of it even today. Going to go bigger this year.

If you haven't tried this, and love chilli, or chile, or, chili  ;D

Get on it. easy, great fun, very satisfying.

Scotch bonnets and jalapenos planted the other day- they've been under the hot sun for a few days indoors. Germination probably in a week or so, then leave them for another few before planting in the greenhouse.

Last year I planted them in June, and they were a month from being ripe by the time it started getting colder. This time, I'm hoping from some nice red jalapenos and scotch bonnets!

I have 5 Jalapeños doing very nicely - germinated very quickly (in under 5 days) and they're now between 4 and 6 inches tall. They'll need transplanting in early May and will probably go outside at that point.

I planted some Devil's Tongue quite early this year, been using a propagator (mini greenhouse) to help them grow in the early stages, they're really effective.

Do you have to do the transplanting thing or can you just plant them in a big pot to start with?

Start off with small pots, and don't over water them or you might cause the root to rot
