He has already won titles and trophies at Ajax and he still has plenty of time to win some more though. I mean if your goin to think along those lines let me ask you a question. Would you consider Alan Shearer to have been a flop?

Have i ever mentioned what a player has won?

Dont try and talk sense to him.

He posted this hyperbolic shit in the 'VDV turns down Liverpool' thread and got pulled on it so he decided to start a whole thread on VDV being the biggest flop in the last 10 years which, having read the thread, is a load of horse poo

Nearing the end? He was only 30 at the time, he should have been at his peak and he certainly couldn't be called over-rated given
his european goalscoring exploits.

You could consider him being over-rated because of the leagues he played in. Scored goals for fun in the so called weaker leagues and everyone raved about him but struggled to perform in england.

Its like Ally McCoist, he scored shit loads of goals up in Scotland and was hailed as some sort of Messiah by the Rangers fans. Who claimed at the time he was one of the best strikers in the world. Now for me thats what you call over-rated.

I kinda did.  You said Van Der Vaart should won so much more by now and thats why you consider him a flop.

I haven't read that thread, nor do I have any intention of doing so because who cares if a player said they turned us down? I'm only interested in players who want to play for us.

I kinda got the jist of this thread from the off though.

I mentioned him here because he flopped when he came to england but that was after injury problems. Two time european golden boot winner and
twice leading goalscorer in the champions league. Regardless of the 'weaker' league he played in he proved himself against
top opposition time and again. He was unplayable at his peak. Shame it all went a bit Gazza for him later in his career.
It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

What is that supposed to mean at all really?

I'll hazard a guess and say you think Van der Vaart has made a massive boo boo by signing for a club you consider a lot smaller the Liverpool? Am I right? I'm not far off am I?

Therefore in general would you not agree that you could not consider Jardel to have been a flop then?

Its meant to mean what i said. If you want to carry on examining it do so. I said Van der Vaart, you disagree. Ten years or so ago i would have though he would have been the centre piece of a very succesful team. quite simple really.

Erm I just said that I posted his name here because he flopped when he signed for Bolton and was
still a reasonably big name at the time as per the first line of the post you quoted.

I remember when Porto played United in about 97 and he was talked up massively and then proceded to miss a shit load of sitters. Never liked him after that! The one and only time I'll mention Championship Manager but he was a beast for me on that!

That doesn't make him a flop though. Everywhere hes played hes done well and that includes his time at Madrid when he did play. Its not his fault the teams he played in didn't win that many things, nor is it his fault that he's never won European or World footballer of the year.  Because what you fail to understand is its not that easy to win those accolades. Theres dozens of players ahead of him who are just simply better, thats not his fault though and nor does it make him a flop.

Here's a few more names to add to the mix, may have been mentioned already as players who flopped in the PL...

Steve Marlet - Lyon to Fulham for 11.5m in 2001

Shevchenko - Milan to Chelsea for 30.8m in 2006

Fran Jeffers - Bitters to Arsenal for 8m in 2001

Boulahrouz - Hamburg to Chelsea for 7m in 2006

Boumsong - Rangers to Newcastle for 8m in 2005

Erm... Well surely you could hardly considered him one of the biggest flops in the last ten years then could you, as the title of the thread suggests? Sure it didn't work out for him over here (how many games did he play for Bolton anyway 5 or 6?), it happens,  but you could hardly call his career a flop could you?
