He was already 32 when he joined Coventry, and he made two PFA teams of the year while at Leeds, while also having better league finishes and individual stats. So I would definitely say he was playing at a higher level at Leeds.

He was, but a lot of that was in the Football League era, rather than Premier League I thought.

Anyway, it’s a good pick, I’m just reminiscing inaccurately to pass the time.

Jay-Jay Okocha is one of those players whose legend exceeds their actual achievements. Played his best stuff in Germany and Turkey and had one good season in the 3 he spent at Bolton, his first.

Also, it's a nice way to cross off the first non-top club by getting a very accomplished player who made Villa punch above their weight for several years in Barry. While obviously not on Xabi's level he was a very good Premier League midfielder for many years.

In all seriousness, Barry gets an unfair rep for Rafa alienating Xabi over him. He was a much better footballer than people give him credit for and it's not a coincidence that Villa began a serious decline shortly after he left. In fact, even his first year for Everton was a really good one. I'm not too fond of the alternatives at this stage either. Barry was a solid 3-star midfielder on an FM scale and he did a job good enough to be a regular in the City team that won the Premier League without shining. People who are going to draft CM's outside of the big clubs are going to be seriously disappointed by now.

You gotta consider the team he was playing for. He joined a Bolton team fighting for relegation, he played big part in improving them. Most Bolton fans probably would pick him as their best player in PL era.

Sometimes you could think that Barry, Carrick and Fletcher were the same player, such were the similarities in how they played. The kind of players that are good enough to be complements in a midfield with title ambitions but is there by not taking too big risks and just taking care of the football.

Since Carrick and Fletcher had their best days at United I couldn't pick either no matter what. The other two options I had an equal option to Barry in mind but passed up for tactical purposes since I'm interested in the main club for other options moving forward.

Thoughts on Harry Kewell anyone (I’m very needy!)...He was class at Leeds and also in spells for us but obviously we didn’t see the best of him. Rafa always picked him when fit.

Those couple of seasons at Leeds from around 99-02 he was superb though.
