NO!! No! We're not watching the bloody Good Life!! Bloody bloody bloody!! I hate it!! It's so bloody nice! Felicity 'Treacle' Kendall and Richard 'Sugar-Flavored-Snot' Briars!! What do they do now?! Chocolate bloody Button ads, that's what!! They're just a couple of reactionary stereotypes, confirming the myth that everyone in Britain is a lovable, middle-class eccentric - and I - HATE - THEM!!

In fairness though a hell of a lot of the content was highly contemporary and contextualised within the zeitgeist. I very much doubt it was written with the test of time in mind.....

Aye. A lot of the Pythons stuff is pretty of it's time too. Quite rarely that comedy can transcend ages. My son loves Some Mothers Do Ave Em though, bizarrely..

I've just realised that my generalisation above was utter tosh as there are loads of Comedies that transcend generations - it's just that some are (as 24/7 said) written contemporarily. The Goodies is an example of contemporary comedy that doesn't work now. Benny Hill is probably another.

Critics say that alot don't they? And in fairness, it is at times. Jean Luc Godard said something brilliant about this some years ago - not that I can remember what it was exactly, but that, in his films (late 60's Le Weekend era), he was aiming to jam a knife into the contemporary questions of that time, and not ones that related to timelessness or issues that might occur in the future. So he was totally unconcerned about criticism about his films looking dated. He actually WANTED them to be dated. He wanted them to be a record of that time. Unlike the Good Life say.

Alot of people say that young adults are violent right, but how would you feel if you were old enough to have intercourse with a partner of your choice, yet you could not drink in pubs?

Earlier in the thread someone mentioned the policeman and Cornflake competition winner scene in 'Boring' being racist. You know the one....'That's white man's electricity you're burning ringing that doorbell'

No way that was racist and if it has been removed from the show it shouldn't of. Just the writers ridiculing the racist views of the police force in the 80's. It's called satire.

Anyway.......hands up who likes me!
