Oh I don't know, all we need is another "give me a moment to stand, extend my arms theatrically and admire my work" type Aussie player.

You don't like Cisse cause he's arrogant, but you want Drogba?  Not only arrogant, but he makes Dioufy look mature?

No, my main issue with Cisse, is whether he is as committed to football as he is to his fashion and musical interests.  And incidentally how well he will be able to pursue  those  latter two  "passions"  - his own words - in Liverpool as opposed to the short trip to party in Paris that his current employers allow him to make regularly ( again his words).  Having seen both he and Drogba in very similar circumstances, admittedly a season apart, I felt Drogba was more finished as a player and as it happens, more clinical.  Not borne out by the stats I realise, and again, just a personal view.  Im not keen on shirt throwers either.

Have no issue with arrogance backed up by goals as is the case with both those two, the post was not pointing to either of them or in fact Diouf.

IMO you can't just look at the striker's goal record in France and decide whether he will perform at the same or better at Liverpool.

Maybe Auxerre is playing a different style of football, maybe Cisse needs decent service from midfield just like what RVN gets from United

Cisse typically plays as the lone striker for Auxerre and is very unlike RVN in that he often creates his own goals.

He's a very physically gifted striker and will be the fastest player in the premiership when he arrives. Attributes Cheyrou didn't have, but which I think will see Cisse being more of an instant hit.

Liverpool can't afford to rely on strikers to create chances themselves. True, a striker chould create chances to score but they should also get decent service every now and then.

If you look at RVN, he scores most of his goals from inside the 6 yard box with Giggs, Scholes and (used to) Becks. I don't often see him score outside the box, most of his goals are just simple tap ins.

Hope Cisse aint like RVN though  ;D

Well most people consider Henry to be the best striker in the prem  (maybe the world) and i've seen him on a few occasions wheeling away after scoring a goal with his arms extended with a smug/arrogant look on his face.

Not saying he's as good as or even the same type of player, but if he performs on the pitch then he can celebrate however he wants. And for me he can take his shirt off as much as he wants, as long as it follows a goal.

As for the arrogance thing, imho it comes from confidence in your ability. You play well, you get confidence. You continue to play well, and your confidence grows. Further on and a little arrogance sneaks in a la Henry/Pires/Zidane/Figo/Ronaldo. Makes you think you are better than the players you are going up against so you feel more free to try things and more confident in doing them.

Imagine Heskey with a bit of arrogance. We know his power and his pace scares defenders. We know that when he's in the mood he can be unstoppable. Imagine how good he'd be if he Knew it as well.

How many has he scored after picking the ball up by himself 60 yards out?

Not that I'm questioning our fantastic approach play and distribution or anything.
One goal either early this season or at the end of last season can't remember it seems so long ago really stands out where he ran pretty much 60 yards beating 3 players then leathering it in the bottom corner from an acute angle. I have seen him play 6 or 7 times but have been closely watching his goals on eurosport pretty much since we were first linked with the guy 2 years ago and I must say I'm pretty confident we are getting a class act. I'm sure he would be partnering Henry in the summer if he wasn't banned even ahead of Trezeguet, Anelka etc.

Gerard Houllier believes the impending arrival of French wonderboy Djibril Ciise will be an exciting one for Liverpool Football Club and declared he is quicker than Arsenal star Thierry Henry.
Houllier added that Ciise isn't at the level that Henry is at the moment and warned that the expected summer signing will need a settling in period to get used to the English game, but added the striker is genuine quality.

Cisse has scored over 30 goals for Auxerre this season and has an impressive strike rate of 71 goals in just 107 appearances.

The Reds boss believes a front running partnership of Cisse and Michael Owen will be deadly.

Houllier said: "Cisse will have a major impact here. He is quicker than Henry.

"He does not have the same skill as Henry but that will come. It will take a bit of time because it is a different game here strong and powerful.

"For the third season in a row he is the top scorer in France with more than 30 goals. I have been following him for three seasons now and Cisse and Michael playing together - that is an exciting prospect.

"There will be some pace there and I think Michael will get even better. His game has changed a bit and he is more mature in some aspects of his game."oullier said:

that'll be this chappy then....

Quote
Roux bids for Pieroni

Auxerre look set to launch a bid for the Belgian Juliper League's top scorer, Mouscron's Luigi Pieroni.
The French side are expected to wrap up a deal for the prolific forward after sending a delegation to discuss the move with the Belgian club.

The 23-year-old has been in fine form this season, attracting a wealth of interest from across Europe.

However, Auxerre boss Guy Roux has made an early bid in attempt to secure the striker's services.

Pieroni is expected to be offered a three-year deal to replace Djibril Cisse - who is expected to move to Liverpool in the summer.

Fuck me 71 in 107?

The thing which really worries me is if he goes say five games without scoring... the media criticism, etc. Am well glad he's missing Euro 2004, allows him a break and more time to get settled in Liverpool, and prepare for the season ahead.
