^ the Canadian analysts post match were going on about it at length. When the ball goes back to the goalie they are like " At this point 99.9% of the goalies in the world kick it long. Becker puts his foot on it and invites them in, then releases at the last possible moment. Incredible" . Or to that effect.

Lovely first time pass round the corner by Robertson as well, on his right foot too. Wonder if we'd have done that if we were protecting a lead.

It really was a lovely piece of football.  Drawing them in, max 2 touches and gone till it gets to Mane.  12 passes the whole way from Keeper to Mane and then boom!

That's a really great passage of football, regardless of the opposition. Alisson under pressure and being closed down, then we play out from the back and across both sides of the pitch before Shaqiri scores. Really crisp passing and movement to stretch the play, and all started because Alisson knows that keeping possession is better than hoofing it, despite the risks.

I dont mind that. Keeps him grounded. Those of us who see him week in week out know he has the potential to be the best of all time if he brings the errors to 0 because he does everything else perfectly. Nobody cares about his 2 errors because they cost nothing and the things he did right saved us a dozen points. I am fine with him making these harmless mistakes once or twice a year just to get it out of his system. It must be boring for him to be sooo good. Needs to keep things interesting.

Shamelessly repurposing the below words (from postmatch thread) into ...

...an Ode (?)to Alison

Why, o Why
Did we have to win Three to One
Why, o Why
Didnt we listen to Alison?

Why, o Why
Did the 1st shot Xerdan not sky?

Why, o Why
Did the 2nd shot Xerdan even try?

When he knew the risk
Why, o Why
did he still shoot?
And shoot us in the boot?

Why, o Why
Did we as a team aim so high?

Why, o Why
Did we make Ed and the mancs cry?

Why, o Why
Did we not heed, the early warning
Of Wise Ol Becker, the Goalkeeper
The Son of Ali knew, he knew,
HE knew where it was at.
And so he spilled the ball kindly
Into the path of Lindgard, blimey
To tap in a goal: A ray of hope!
To perhaps, perhaps, continue the dope
Opiate for the Red Devil Masses
Glossing over all the misplaced passes
Carrying on playing like donkeys and asses

Why, o Why
Did we not try, not even try
To heed the warning of our keeper
To make their loss cheaper

As it is, we have won the battle
But lost the war.
The match is won.
But the prince, the sweet prince, is no more.
"A Football team is like a Piano: You need 8 people to carry it and 3 to play the damn thing" - Shankly

Watching the game again, and they showed a slow motion replay short after the goal, the problem was he never grabbed the ball in the first place. Then the ball was bound off his knee.

Thing is he does not let it affect his game and it's the perfect reaction to a mistake.

Shit happens. He didn’t thrown into the net, and Lingard, to be fair to him, got himself in a good position for any rebound.

It was the right choice given how quickly he was closed down. He could have been in all sorts of bother if he tried to telegraph it there. I think he had one or two passes that were not so good but he did the basics perfectly well and was smart when he came out.

Karius and Mignolet dont keep a clean sheet tonight.

Nor against Everton and Watford tbf. And don't save that last minute Milik chance for Napoli or the Mee header against Burnley.

That's the difference.

You do know they both kept plenty of clean sheets for us, where they were required to make saves, right? Neither of them are in Alissons class, or even close btw, but let’s not pretend they were chucking the ball in the net every game.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Alison’s reactions are notably quicker than Karius’s. I remember  looking at a number of goals last year only to see the keeper move too late. You don’t tend to see that anymore.

Yep, and we don’t need to carry on slating him and Mignolet in order to make Alisson look better because frankly he does that all by himself by just being an utter beast. They were both good enough for a team where top four was the target, and not good enough for one which wanted to challenge.

And even crazier, never conceded more than one per game, and the conceded goals have only cost us points twice.

Watching the short highlights this morning on MOTD, the shot from Traore after the misplaced pass from Fabinho, you can see he knows it is wide and just calmly watches it go out. Compare that the T-rex arms who would have done a full length dive and maybe even managed to tip the ball out for a corner.
