Wasnt that goal after he had a headband? I remember a goal (I think it was this one) where he was injured in warmup, but there was no one to be substituted, so played on with a headband, and scored a header.

there was a time he came back on after a head injury, bandaged up and straight away leaps about 10 foot in air to head clear. Crowd loved it. Middlesbrough 2005 i think, Morientes scored two in a 2-0 win.

warm up wise I recall another one where Hyypia unexpectedly started as Arbeloa got injured in the warm up. Carra went to right back and we stuffed United 4-1, last game possibly that Hyypia started.

Only thing I didnt like about his last game is Benitez telling him he was worried he would played bad.

Slate him all as you will, and in all fairness you have a valid point.

Aki never was the fastest or most physical in the teams he played in.
Nor was he ever considered a technical or skilled player.

What he had plenty though, was sheer determination and work rate to be the best he can with his limited abilities, and that made him a premier league footballer.

Something that many seem to lack nowadays.

And I agree with him on that Sami deserved a better farewell, sadly it was not to be.

from reddit: This happened at Levi skiresort in Finland. First a norwegian fan came wearing Hyypiä’s shirt, but what he didnt notice was that Sami came a bit later to the same restaurant. The owner noticed them both and when the norwegian went outside he saw Sami and he’s entourage noticing the fan. So Sami went to the counter and asked if he could deliver the next order to that gentelmen as a suprise. Needles to say, he was pretty suprised. The whole thing ended with the whole restaurant giving applause. Ooo Sami Sami!
