Did Adolf Hitler Live Briefly in Liverpool?
« on: December 7, 2011, 06:41:09 pm »
Don't know if this has been posted earlier or not.

Anyway, I was having a chat with a 94 year old chap and he swears that Adolf Hitler lived in Toxteth and very briefly in Woolton Village prior to the outbreak of the 1st World War. Can anyone verify this or has anyone heard anything similar?

Sure there was an article a while back that said he studied and stayed in Liverpool for a brief spell, could be wrong though.

It's been debunked numerous times in the last twenty years, yet every now and then, raises it's head.

Yes, the Hitlers did briefly live on Upper Stanhope Street (L8) prior to WW1, but it was his cousin or brother or something.

There's no proof what so ever that Adolf himself came to stay, although that doesn't stop the rumour mill giving it a kick every now and then.

On the dates that he was reportedly in the city, there is documentary evidence (in the form of official paperwork) that he had to report to a police station or some other government official in Germany/Austria, because he'd previously been arrested or some other such thing.

I can't be arsed trying to dig up the source right now, but I might try later.

Heard it on have i got news for you. His sister lived in Liverpool with her husband so he would occasionally make trips over to see them, probably for a few days at a time. Something like that..

It was Hitler's older half brother Alois who lived in Liverpool.  He married an Irish gal called Bridget and they settled in the city for a time.  Their son was William Patrick Hitler.  He moved to America and had four sons.  It's rumoured they made a pact to have no children to ensure the Hitler name dies out.

The whole story regarding Adolf in Liverpool was started up by Bridget when she wrote a book called "My brother in law Adolf"; she was just trying to sell the book.

Bridget Dowling, Hitler's sister in law lived in Toxteth.
"There is no corroborating evidence Hitler ever visited his relatives in Liverpool. "

All that's known is that William was a bit of a con man and went to Germany to scrounge a job of Uncle Adolf.  Kept threatening him with blackmail 'cause he kept getting shitty work.

Doubt it, but interestingly ....  The night of the 10th January saw the last bombing raids of WW2 in Liverpool. Upper Stanhope Street was the last street to be hit and ironically the Luftwaffe managed to hit  Hitler's brother's ( Alois Hitler ) old house at number  102. The house was damaged beyond repair and remained in such a  state for many years before being demolished.... http://liverpoolremembrance.weebly.com/bombings-1942.html

Some more info and pics here

And also this!

A relation of Emperor Hirohito escaped the stifling restrictions of life at the Imperial Court in the 20s and worked his passage to Liverpool where he worked on the docks and lived in a council tenement under the name of Paddy Murphy!

Paddy Murphy was the assumed name of Kanso Yoshida, born in Japan in 1895, settled in Liverpool in 1938 and lived there until he died in 1973, his death meriting a lengthy obituary in the Liverpool Echo. Kanso was second cousin to Princess Chichibu, who was sister-in-law to Emperor Hirohito, the father of Akihito, the current Emperor of Japan.

Ha ha, that would be telling! But I remember some of the lads in my class. They were, Gregory Zinoviev, Peter Stuchka, Alexei Rykov,  Anatoli Lunascharsky and Nikolai Bukharin. One of our teachers was called Mr Marx (or Groucho as we called him!) another was 'Freddy' Engels. Happy days!

Just looking at the 1911 census return. 102 Upper Stanhope St is described as an 8 roomed house with the head being a William Thomas John.

The Hitlers were one of two families boarding at the address and Alois is actually recorded with the name Anton. He is described as a chef/waiter in the cafe at Lyons Confectionery. The newborn Billy Hitler is also recorded on the censis.

For those about to Klopp! We salute you

I once went on a kiddies 'talent show' that my mum made me attend when I was about 7 on Blackpool Pier.

She said "Why don't you get up there.. give them a song!" (Beaming enthusiastically)

I thought "Yeah! I'll give it a go"

I get taken backstage (Not prison slang) and there were kids practising their acts with pianos, guitars, concerto violins, Props, Juggling and fucking everything..

I went out there after the contents of the World Kids Talent School had been on (I was last in more ways than one) and stood there while the fella said "Well, little fella, what's your name?"

"Andrew.."

"Well.. Andrew. What are you going to do for us?"

"I'm going to sing 'Whistle While you Work'"

The good man looked at the piano player on stage who nodded to indicate he knew the song..

We started off with the sterling intro, but then I'm afraid with all these eyes on me (And me being shite and having never sung in front of anyone in my life) absolutely lost my bottle. I broke into a frantic and mental rendition of the following song (Singing 24 times faster than the poor pianist who tried to keep up"

"Whistle While you Work... HitlerIsAJerk.LikeHisArmy.HeIsBarmy. WHISTLE WHILE YOU WORK! THANKYOU!" I remember doing a dramatic bow and scarpering off the stage back to the relative refuge of my family while the entire audience just stared in astonishment.

Not one clap. The bastards. Can't blame them like.
