Spotify for iPhone
July 27, 2009, 08:46

Late last week we put the finishing touches to a very special project we’ve been wanting to share with you for a while now. After many weeks of burning the midnight oil at Spotify HQ in an effort to squeeze into it every drop of musical goodness, we’ve finally completed work on the Spotify app for the iPhone and sent it over to the nice people at Apple.

We thought it might be nice to show you a video of what we’ve built for you.

Our iPhone version is very similar to the Spotify you’re already familiar with and will allow you to listen to your music even when you’re not connected to a network. The application should be available in a few weeks for premium subscribers - we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as it’s in AppStore.

Yup. This is how. Presume it still works.

I was able to get onto this even though i'm not in any of the countries its freely available. Just went to this https://www.spotify.com/en/get-started/ page through a proxy, which i found here or here . The countries its free in are UK, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Spain and France. So look for a proxy from any one of them countries.

Used ie7pro to switch proxy(here's how),which probably wasn't necessary, but its an essential add on for anyone using ie7 anyway if you use ie7 and it just makes switching from proxy to proxy easier.

Might take a few different goes, spotify seems to be able to weed out certain proxies.

Oh and you'll need  to be able to find a postcode from whatever countries proxy you get through on, its only a simple google though.  :wave

Can't see any Maroon 5 in the RAWK playlist. Nice one anyway, perhaps my list is out of date or something.Yeah they are a superb band, brilliant songs. Ordered a live acoustic album from Amazon this morning as well as the remix album.

Spotify is the best invention since the case ball.

It's often hard to sift through the shite with all these new "All the rage" programs, but Spotify really is a gem.

Cleverly done, they don't ram the ads down your throat, and seem not to take themselves too seriously. Good stuff.

For the PC/Mac versions you have to install a program, but there's a mobile app for android and iPhone, but I think you have to be a premium member to use it.

Ok, got the app and paid for a one month premium account. First and most (probably obvious) flaw is that it doesn't run in the background, so I can't type this message and listen to Spotify. I mainly listen to music when travelling so that is an app busing flaw for me, and not one that I can see Apple permitting them to change. So, back to iTunes then...

Background apps are the single biggest thing missing from the iPhone currently. The Palm-Pre can do it, I believe.

Other than that, how's it working over the 3g network?

I was so disgusted that it wouldn't run in the background that I switched to iTunes. I'll get a proper run at it this weekend and decide what to do with it.
