How long is the break? I don't think you hit enough sixes. Bell, Pietersen, Morgan, and Wright should clear the boundary with ease should they go for it. I expect us to win this with a few overs to spare. But it is a decent score.

Only if the bowling allows them to.

I think Copeland and Pattinson could both play for Aus in the near future so I'm excited to see what they do.

250 off 43 is pretty good I think.

Now watch England do it easy.

Completely forgot about the bowling. It's been such a non-issue the last couple of months I forgot it could threaten.

Bell was good again!
Dont know if i would pick him for T20 still though, but ODI ..

What do people expect our ODI WC team to be anyway?

Strauss
Davies
Bell
KP
Colly
Morgan
Yardy
Bresnan
Broad
Swann
Anderson

perhaps ?

Trott is current number 3 I think. Going to be a struggle to fit all the inform batsmen in though! Obviously need anough bowling options as well. You'd imagine that Strauss, Davies (or at least a keeper/batsmen), KP, Colly, Morgan are certainties with the bat so could be a fight between Bell and Trott. Colly for his bowling and fielding is important. Maybe KP will be under pressure?

With the form Bell is in i cant see how they could keep Trott ahead of him, if as you say they keep KP.

On current form, KP has to go, he hasn't looked impressive in all forms of the game really, bar one innings in the Ashes, for a long time.

Speaking of Colly's fielding, did you see that catch! amazing.

I think the Duckworth-Lewis system is as good as any for deciding the outcome of a rain-affected match. But it's not flawless, and the opinion that it helps the team batting first wasn't changed by last night's game.

England have 10 overs less than the Prime Minister's XI, but still have to chase a total only 30-shy of what they got in 44. Madness.

Madness maybe, but not an issue  8)

Broad's got a monster of a slow ball bouncer.
If we need a second spinner then swap Yardy (who isnt really a spinner i guess) for one, imo.

Back to the good old days of the 90's revolving door? I don't think so. Davies is only in and is the best OD opener on the county circuit available to England. Give him the time he needs.

Not at all, Keiswetter was wicky/opener for the 20/20 world cup win, so actually the incumbent not a newbie, hardly a revolving door

Forgot about Tait - he's a real handful in one dayers isn't he. Brett Lee - thought he's retired or is that just from Tests? Will be a tough(but luckily largely unimportant!) series.

Very much a side for the short term, specifically the world cup. Probably best not to use this to rebuild.

Looks decent on paper (screen anyway!). Hauritz a better spinner than your Test options. A lot of pace with Lee and Tait. 2 Husseys, Watson, White and Clarke who can't be bounced out so much so batting looks strong. I guess your bowling could be a bit all or nothing - Siddle, Johnson, Lee and Tait are all potential match winners but could also all go for a few.

England have come on a lot in one dayers recently but I still think we always look like being on the verge of a collapse! With Trott and/or Bell and Strauss we have someone to anchor the innings and with Morgan's introduction we are not so reliant on KP.

Should be a decent series. I was going to say a great build up for the World Cup but will either side be able to prepare properly for the lower, slower pitches of Asia?

It should be good. We're still the best one day team in the world. Perhaps not for long. Johnson is who I have little faith in, surprisingly. Not fast enough to be so inaccurate in ODI's. I mean the guy goes at 5 an over for his career. But yeah the batsman you list are quality and Ferguson and S.Marsh have also done well for the side in recent times.

I want to beat you a lot, this really isn't meaningless for me. I definitely understand if your lot couldn't care less but I want to win and go into the world cup in some form of form.

EDIT- I originally put "could care less". I had to change it.

Likewise. It's just the default setting for us now that the Test series is safely in the bag! It's like calling the League Cup Mickey Mouse to deflect the pain of losing to Northampton.

That said, I don't think many of us cared too much in the long run about winning the last one day comp in Oz having being spanked 5-0 in the Tests.

Especially as people have been calling Aus cricket dead. I'd like us to remind people we're still half decent at the ODI thing. I think they should play ODI's before the tests. I loved watching them before the 2005 test series. I wanted us to get it over your lot and see what the English had. If I recall Dizzy looked bad and was a sign of things to come.

England captain Paul Collingwood wants Twenty20 record
First Twenty20 International: Australia v England
Venue: Adelaide Date: Wednesday, 12 January Start time: 0835 GMT
Coverage: Test Match Special on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra and the BBC Sport website; text commentary online and on mobiles; also live on Sky Sports 1

England captain Paul Collingwood has targeted an international Twenty20 record when his side meet Australia.

The world champions can seal an eighth consecutive win in the format when they face Cameron White's team in Adelaide on Wednesday, the first of two matches.

"We've won seven on the trot and will set a new record if we make it eight," said Collingwood. "It's not easy to win that many on the trot in Twenty20.

"The guys are focused and ambitious and these are two huge games for us."

England's run started in their victorious World Twenty20 campaign in the Caribbean last year, which ended with a thumping seven-wicket win over the Australians in the final.

They've been playing fantastic cricket and we don't want to let them break the record

Australia vice-captain Tim Paine
They also have momentum from the Ashes Test series, which England won 3-1 to secure their first series win in Australia since 1986-87, and Collingwood, who retired from the Test team after winning in Sydney, says they want to build on that success.

"Australia always want to beat England - and we always want to beat them," said the 34-year-old. "Whatever form of the game it is against Australia we are desperate to win.

"We've got the momentum and obviously don't want to let Australia back in."

Collingwood hinted at a recall to the Twenty20 side for in-form batsman Ian Bell, who impressed during the Ashes and hit a sparkling 124 from 102 balls in Monday's seven-wicket win over a Prime Minister's XI in Canberra, albeit in a 50-over match.

Bell has not played for England's Twenty20 side for nearly three years, but Collingwood said: "He's in fantastic form, he has been since he arrived in Australia.

"That was a very clinical innings and he has staked his claim for a place in the Twenty20 side.

Australia will be much-changed from the fifth Ashes Test in Sydney, with only Shane Watson, Steve Smith and Mitchell Johnson retaining their places in the shorter form of the game.

Strike bowlers Brett Lee - who retired from Test cricket in 2010 - and Shaun Tait will spearhead their attack, with fast bowler James Pattinson aiming to make his debut.

Australia vice-captain Tim Paine, who skippered the losing Prime Minister's XI side, says the hosts will be looking for a change in fortunes under new skipper White, who has replaced Michael Clarke in the role.

"England have certainly have been the best team recently," said Paine. "They've been playing fantastic cricket, but it's also a new era for our Twenty20 side.

"We've certainly got a good side ourselves and we don't want to let them break that world record. Then we want to start something similar ourselves.

"We'll be confident going into the T20 game, but England are the current world champions and it will be a huge game."
