Was chomping at the bit when he came on, obviously desperate for minutes. Wouldn't be averse to seeing him start either of the next 2.

I think he'll start at Southampton. I'd like to see us rest two of the front three and have him and Sturridge there. Salah could do with a game off.

Yeah, that's what i thought too. Klopp should react a bit earlier with the subs.

We play at home. I'd like to see us rest one (think Jurgen will start the usual front 3) of the front 3 max and get their rest in the midweek game against Chelsea in the League Cup.

City have better.
But his impact so far has been excellent precisely because he's aiming not to be a bench player - or at least he plays like that.
Competition is propelling us to the next level.

One assist - the own goal saw two Southampton players touch the ball after Shaqiri.

Was most definitely rested for the second half because he and Sturridge will have a huge role to play on Wednesday.

I think Klopp was saving his legs for Wednesday and hence the early substitution.

Our midfield went really flat as soon as he gone off.

That would be weird, he barely has any minutes in his legs anyway! Agreed, we went a bit flat though.

Think Klopp was saving him up to do a full 90 in the League Cup. Looked up for it, but a bit sloppy with his passes in the first 15-20 minutes. Still getting used to matchday tempo, but he looks like he'll be a cracking option to give us a different style of play against deep-sitting sides to batter them. He was in the thick of everything while he was on the pitch - Really impressive full debut.

He wasn't saving him, he didn't like our shape and felt we were too open thats what he said in his presser.

He controls the ball and makes space for himself in the final third as well as anyone in our team. Essential against low blocks as we can then keep teams penned in rather than passing back to midfield under pressure.

Was at the game, like others was surprised at the substitution as he hasn't exactly played that much, I assumed he had a knock.

He was all over the place in the first half, not sure whether he didn't know where exactly to go or whether it was just rotation and good movement along with the front 3 lads.

Fair enough, kind of makes sense then as we were slightly disjointed at times, despite the scoreline.

What a league debut. Although the formation was kinda dysfunctional and Southampton got a lot of space on our left side, you could easily see we have a quality cube here. And that freekick. #coutinhowho?

Klopp said as much after the game that we had no shape in midfield with him on.

Yes, he didn't help the shape, but he created both the 1st goal (own goal) and the 3rd goal, and both were due to crucial and decisive actions from him. He also ran into some troubling pockets of space for the opposition that made us really unpredictable in the 1st half. Of course, we just played the game out in the 2nd half, but we didn't offer that threat after he was off. Maybe, Klopp is planning to play him further forward in the next game.

We played that formation to suit him, Klopp confirmed it in his presskonferenz. He's quite familiar playing as a 10 for Switzerland and Stoke.

Harshest substitution I have ever seen. Constantly was on the front foot in between the lines. Perfect link between midfield and forward line.
Scoreline remained the same so cant really argue with the decision. Just wanted to praise Big Shaq

Thought he did well in an attacking sense, and I do really like him. Concern for me is that we adapted our shape to suit him as an extra attacker, rather than Shaq fitting into the midfield shape. How it worked out today was fine for the specific circumstances, but not if he's to be a genuine alternative for the midfield when the squad is stretched against better opposition.

Man of the match today (aside from maybe Hendo). The fact he only played 45 minutes speaks volumes of both his performance and the irrelevance of the second half.
