Possibly but he’s played first team football in Scotland so not totally wet behind the ears.

That is true, and I suppose against lower league opposition there's a little chance. Elliot made appearances for us at 16 too.

Cheers.Bit sad that united have the highlights up before us and not behind a premium wall.Anyone know if Issac Mabaya picked up an injury? Not involved anywhere this weekend.
He was training with the first team for the Bournemouth game

Owen Beck is coming back from his loan in Portugal according to a journalist at the Echo. He’ll be loaned straight back out to an English side, Bolton are favourites. Hopefully he hits the ground running there like Conor Bradley has and gets regular football.

I did wonder what was happening with Beck. Didn't get off the bench for the first 3 games (they lost all 3) and then wasn't in the squad at all at the weekend. Whoever signed off that loan deal (at our end) has royally fucked up.

Not really, you cant predict what a club is going to do with a loanee. It doesn't have to be someone at the clubs fault

Too random a loan that, trying to be too clever really. Unless you've got a Vitesse Arnhem type link up (also less of a cultural difference) it's going to be difficult to get games for a young lad like like that. Nor will he be able to speak the language over there, so will be difficult to settle in the country/dressing room.

Should have just gone to the EFL in the first place with Bradley and Bazagli.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea trying loans in European leagues though. This one hasn’t worked out but giving players a chance to experience different styles of football.

There's no guarantee with loan deals, regardless. We sent Harvey to Blackburn and he had a tremendous spell. We did the same with Leighton Clarkson and he didn't get a kick, and is now already tearing it up at Aberdeen. Thats sort of one of the benefits of a loan, if it doesn't work out you can pretty much always recall them without too much fuss. In this case I imagine we felt it'd be good for him to test himself in a new environment in a good league, and its pretty quickly become clear that its unlikely to work as any of us wanted. And may also be the case that we've seen how well Connor Bradley is doing at Bolton and think that's actually a better place for him. To talk about 'trying to be too clever' or 'someone has royally fucked up' is laughable.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Loans are always going to be hit and miss but sending a young lad from the north west to Portugal is a big culture difference, when he was more likely to get a game and settle in League One somewhere (with team mates and staff he can properly communicate with). He's 20 now so needs games.

What do you think happened? :D We got a phone call in broken English and it was actually a bar in Famalicão trying to order some Becks? And we just chucked him on a plane and wished him luck for the season, when all they wanted was a few crates of horrible beer? We obviously had a conversation with them about how he'd be used, with him about whether he was happy going abroad, and for whatever reason its just not worked out. Thats not really on anyone, its just obviously worse a for a kid being on his own in Portugal as opposed to not getting a game at Blackburn and being able to go home and see his mates every day. So makes sense to bring him home. Its not some grand awful statement that the club has fucked up. Its just heaven forbid a loan that didn't really work out.

It's no big deal, just that it was less likely to work out than a loan to a club here, in a year (at 20) where he needs to play. Seemed an odd one at the time.

:D

So odd that even you, Fromola, didn't comment on what a disaster it could be? Actually at the time it seemed most thought it was a surprisingly good move to a consistent top flight team in a good European league. I'm pretty sure it doesn't need explaining to you that a loan spell playing regularly in the Portuguese PL is likely to be more beneficial to a youngster than a season in League One. Unfortunately you can't do a trial for a loan really. But again quite why you think we were 'trying to be too clever' lord only knows.

Considering Pep Ljinders was a coach at Porto for 8 years it doesn’t stretch credulity too much to think that a loan to a Portuguese team may not be a bad idea.

Aye, might be something we do more considering it seems to be one of our main areas we look at players at the moment too. Shame this one hasn't worked out but I'm sure it won't put us off.

Elliot is so good that his loan was always going to work out. You'd have to have been mad not to play him. He came back from the loan and was immediately starting games in the PL for us and without many injuries in midfield too boot. When it comes to mere mortals though, yes they're going to be hit and miss.

This is on the BBC today. Must admit I'd not heard of him when he was with us, but nice to see the feller getting on with his life after some hard knocks.

Dahrius Waldron's his name, was in the Academy with Ryan Kent & Harry Wilson.

That's him, 3rd from left in the front row:

or does he continue his development at blackburn

our transfers seems haphazard this season and morton as back up might pick up some minutes considering the state of our "robust" midfielders ;D

Didn't know where to put this so thought the youth thread will do. Bobby Duncan and his former agent Saif Rubie are arguing over who's to blame for fucking up his Liverpool career. Rubie was on the radio earlier stating he told Duncan to stay with us. Bobby has posted on twitter refuting this saying he had no say in the matter. Now I don't think Duncan is completely blameless in this, but one was a young adult, the other was a fully grown man. It just goes to show that you need the right people around you to succeed in any walk of life and vultures like Rubie need getting shot of.

All very predictable to be honest but the truth is he wasn't good enough anyway. The Fiorentina move was ridiculous, he went there to play in their first team at 18 which was delusional. I don't think he could even get in their reserves. Then he went to Derby who barely had any senior players (which gave loads of chances to young players) and he couldn't get a look in with Rooney unhappy with his attitude.

He must be 21 now and barely has a minute of first team football. If he'd stayed here he'd have got games in 19/20 (Villa and Shrewsbury in the cup for starters).

Similar to Adam Morgan. Local lad scores a few goals for the reserves, gets hyped up and thinks he's the new Robbie Fowler and then struggles to deal with the inevtiable setback.

:o

Or you know....Musialowski isn't particularly good?

He’s good enough to be in the u19 CL squad, so it’s either injuries or politics.

In your opinion. Perhaps he isn't in the eyes of the coaches and the academy director though.
