I need shooting. Backed Baghdad when it won last year left it this time. Backed Advertise in the 2000 Guineas left it alone today.

Not a good day...

Chester again tomorrow with the lads can't wait.

My mates horse is out again too in the 14:35 tomorrow.  Chester regular 'Confessional'.  He won there in September and we got to go in the winners enclosure and meet Jockey Jamie Gormley. Top lad he is.   3rd last time out at Chester in May after winning at Haydock the race previous.

Don't get me wrong, he's 12 now and will struggle but he's still got a run in him and with a low draw it has place claims and has won on all sorts of grounds in the past.

I'll also be doing Dr Koukash's horse in that race 'Gabriel the Saint'. Drawn 1 and always goes well at Chester.

Difficult to see the front 3 in the market not being 123 on the day. Liked Broome for the Epsom Derby but think he’ll be their Leger horse. If I had to pick I’d say AVD will win again, I think his win maybe being a little under rated.

Have a good one at Chester Pete, hope you find some winners

They’re gonna have to stop letting Beggy ride if he keeps pinching Derby’s on these outsiders. They can’t be happy with that in terms of stud prospects. Not sure the jockeys really covered themselves in glory letting them have that much of a lead but can’t have expected Sovereign not to come back.

A couple of the Koukash horses went in I see, so hopefully you had a successful day at Chester Pete?

Off to Newmarket tomorrow and Saturday. Looking forward to seeing Masar tomorrow, but will be backing Mirage Dancer given Stoutes record in the race.
Also going with Dream of Dreams in the July Cup, expect Advertise will have me cursing again.

Anyone else backing anything?

Did Mirage Dancer but thankfully had a saver on Communique. Only winner on the day but was a decent price so left with some money in my pocket.

Imagine Masar will be retired hasn’t returned the same horse it seems

Advertise was my pick for the Guineas, left him alone in the Commonwealth Cup, am backing Dream of Dreams tomorrow, so no doubt Advertise will leave me regretting deserting him again!

Think I’m with Burnt Sugar for a repeat of last year in the Bunbury Cup.

Tomorrow looks pretty difficult to find winners at Newmarket so not sure I’ll back much else but do like Beat the Bank at Ascot.

Great race. She is a special horse. I couldn’t tell if she was all out or had more to give, Frankie pushed her out but only gave her one tap of the whip and was never as animated as Doyle on Crystal Ocean

Not sure she was all out there either, Crystal Ocean had a pretty decent trip there whereas Enable and Frankie had to come from behind and had the ballydoyle entourage to deal with. Simply breathtaking. Waldgeist has run some race there too.

Going to stick my neck out and say this: Ballydoyle’s M.O is within the rules of racing, but not imho always in the spirit of it.

Having an extra runner in a big race in the form of a decent horse to act as pacemaker is fine. Having multiple runners, and jockey instructions clearly intended to impede major rivals, is questionable. In the 3 year old ‘Classics’, when horses are still maturing and improving, it’s understandable to run all your horses that have the chance of winning; Ballydoyle do this regularly. Yesterday was different.

Have to add that I’m not a big fan of Aidan O’Brien. His ‘politeness-to-the-point-of-obsequiousness’ shtick leaves me cold, I’m afraid. John Gosden on the other hand is straight talking, helpful and open. He’s a great trainer, and moreover, he actually makes Matt Chapman look good - not easy to do.

I’ve watched the race again and she was far from ideally positioned most the race (unlike Crystal Ocean), Frankie had to make far more use of her coming round the final bend to get into a challenging position than he would have liked. Then she still has enough to battle Crystal Ocean off and win probably a shade cosily.

I’d also agree that Ballydoyle definitely do stretch the boundaries of fair play sometimes. Hunting Horn was clearly there to bother Enable early and keep her wide or ensure she had to end up further back.

All in all it was probably a better performance than at first glance from a super horse.

It was just a fantastic race. Good on Gosden and Stoute for both entering, I’m not sure every trainer would’ve allowed their horse to race against the other.

I used to attend the Goodwood festival, my son in law was a member until recently. Before that I used to go in the 70s with my old man.

The Johnston and Hannon teams are always primed for the meeting, and they’re in good form at the moment.

I was there yesterday. Logician broke the track record, so he's clearly a serious animal but it was a desperate renewal of a classic. The other group races had shit field sizes too, though Threat is a lovely animal and the Godolphin horse in the same race could turn out to be anything in the future.

You can never be sure how they train on but when the taps are turned on he makes the rest look like class 6 handicappers. I don't think Doyle or Buick have even had to draw the whip yet in group races! Can't see how he gets beat. Track record at Ascot earlier in the year and I saw on Twitter that he posted the second fastest time in the history of this race today and Hawk Wing bettered it on rattling fast ground, you don't see animals like this very often.
