Yep definitely think the 2 draws v City & Chelsea have skewed the table somewhat.

If we draw the away game then they each drop 2 and it looks a lot closer.

If we can avoid shite results like Brighton and Brentford then a draw at City & Chelsea ain't bad a bad outcome

We have a straight forward +2 whilst Chelsea and City can't gain anything.

Straight forward?  We'll be lucky to get a draw there.  I really don't see us having any chance to get anything from that game.  We'll be defending the entire match and will be lucky to get the ball in the attacking 1/2.

For those of you who look at the ALPT graph and worry, how about the below:

Chelsea have already dropped more points than expected for a title winning team at home, but still have one of their two toughest home games of the season to come (us).  City only have one more point to drop at home this season, but still have both of their two toughest home games to come (us and Chelsea).  We on the other hand have our two toughest games out of the way.

Now that doesn't mean any more or any less than any other set of data, and maybe Chelsea can keep us this excellent away form for the rest of the season, but it's something to consider and maybe feel a bit more optimistic about.

Thanks Dr, good observation.

I think it was last week I was saying, the most stable determinant of league winners year on year is the results at home.  Away results are far more unpredictable and the aplt model is a bit crude in saying these 13 are par 1 and these others are par 3 based purely on the previous season.  But as we've discussed to death, there's no better approach I've seen yet that keeps the neatness of the model I use.

The reason I resurrected that points won and lost chart is to illustrate the sort of pattern you've just highlighted.  So using that chart as a bit of a qualifier against the aplt is quite useful I think.

Fair dos, Dr and Prof, but all that means is that the home form will probably not be as decisive for the title winner as usual. If we and City drop any more points at home, and we both will, we'd cross that line too. But almost certainly one of these three clubs will be the champion.

At some point soon that 14 game run from 27th Dec to 7th March should start to be eroded into and our tower block should start to rise sharply upwards.

Got lucky and closed the APLT gap against Everton.  Unfortunately, we’ve got no chance against Wolves.  1 step forward and 2 back.

This is the 38 game current form for each team broken down into 5 game segments (with one 3 game segment at the top).  The closer to the bottom and the darker the colour the more recent (and so more relevant) the games are.

So we have 10 points from our last 5 games, 11 points from the 5 games before that, etc, etc

Interesting fixtures today. All of the top 3 playing away with us and Chelsea playing a par 3. We have the potential to have the same points as City and only be a point behind Chelsea. Of course, that also means Chelsea could get a commanding lead should they win and we loose.

A lot to play for today.

Both Chelsea and us had par 1 games today.  We pick up 2 points while Chelsea drop 1.  Right?

Interesting to see how City do now.

I think we need to exclude Leicester and add West Ham; they won't go away (like herpes). Is that something doable, Prof?

That Central line needs to get its act together and tunnel past the Piccadilly and Victoria lines. Otherwise it’ll never make it to Liverpool St.  Nice to see Man Utd stuck near Southwark.

Nice work Prof. Not much to show for your workings this week but appreciated hugely all the same.

Will wait for the full update, but am I right in thinking that for Chelsea to get 90 pts they now have to be perfect at home and have to pick up a few par 1s away from home?

And not drop any points against the dross?

Chelsea have dropped points in three of their last six matches.

Especially three draws at home to Burnley, Utd and Everton doesn't look good.

If they don't pick up soon they're likely out of this race.

Yes but we are just about hanging in there. Expect some tough games to really damage our currently positive progression.

Hiya DaveCharlie! Hope you’re well sir.

Yeah ta Prof - feels a bit like we’ve been thrown some curveballs. We’ve both got Chelsea coming up and they have the tricky Brentford away but not much room for error now. It feels gut wise like we’ll fall a little bit short. You never know though!
