I did think he could have done better.

But on the other hand, he didn't expect to play.  When you come in so last minute and unexpected, plus you've been dropped into a defence with whom you've hardly trained and have no understanding with yet, I think your thinking and judgement might suffer.

I can understand that mentally he hadn't prepared or psyched himself up properly yet, nor thought through certain scenarios (because they hadn't yet happened in training or previous matches with the team) and what to do in them.

At least, that's how I would feel.

Would that not be exactly what a reserve goalie should do though? To be prepare to come on in case of injury or a red card?

Or are you alluding more to the actual football situation regarding the goal? While it ha snot happen to him while playing for Liverpool, he surely has dealt with similar situations while playing for other clubs. That is the whole point in having a experienced back-up.

Surely it's more just reference to him having been at the club a few days, and presumably not having trained all summer (unless another club invited him to join?)

He looks trim, so that's a good reflection on him.

He would have had access to training, and would have been doing his work regardless. That's one of the ways I got to work with pro players - doing their off season technical and fitness training if they played  in a Scandinavian league, or their maintenance training if they were in between clubs. It's a whole mini  industry to itself.

That's interesting, cheers.

I assumed he must have been keeping up the fitness, but not sure of the technical (unless he was invited to West Ham's preseason). Didn't know about such an industry that provides maintenance training.

"To keep his fitness levels up Adrian had been training with a Spanish club in Seville during the summer.

UD Pilas are a semi-professional club based in his home city, and hosted the 32-year-old for two weeks during the pre-season."

Always learn something new here. Had never heard of the industry of maintenance training.

I was alluding more to mind, judgement, and being used to the group of players around you, not physical fitness.

But that's just me with my limited goalie experience playing at highly amateur level (barely above recreational!) Found coming back in after a seasonal break difficult even if physically fit. Judgement had to be refreshed all over again.

It wasn’t a penalty at all, but they clearly feel she couldn’t be over ruled. Appalling decision.

Don't see how it's not an obvious error. VAR should definitely overrule there
