I really couldn't give a shit about the story. Just have it in service of the game, rather than the game be in service of the story. That's how it should be for games. They're games. Not books, TV or Hollywood. I'll take a decent homage to Kurosawa, with some derivative, yet acceptable story as framework to build a solid game around. So long as they nail the combat, progression tree, and the environments, I'm sold.
