a special treat this sun kissed friday.  jamie jones last friday night at plastic people in london.  he was supposed to be playing goa in rome - very cool club - but the volcano put paid to that and here's the rawk dividend.  deep, deep dirty druggy house music of a highly sophisticated character this is right up my strasse:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/iwxygc

working on getting a track listing but might take a wee while ;D

he's my favourite dj.  i first heard him 5 years ago playing electro house but after a trip to disco bloodbath its all gone deep.  he does disco stuff as hot natured but this is in much more tracky mode.  here's a link to him playing a crosstown rebels party at the marcey hotel with wolf + lamb:

http://www.rebelrave.tv/usa-special-part-ii-wolf-lamb/

killer party.  dyed soundorom and damian lazarus playing as well is quite a line up.

a blast from the past in the form of a resurgent dan curtain who ran super-cool 90s techno label peacefrog.  comes with a track list and some suitably filthy vocals which i'm currently pounding out as i pack for a house move on friday.  i have a feeling the neighbours here will be glad to see the back of me ;D

http://www.littlewhiteearbuds.com/lwe-podcast-49-dan-curtin/

Describing Dan Curtin’s sound is like attempting to pin down quicksilver — a satisfying definition always escapes just when you think you’ve grasped it. That’s due in part to the almost two decades the Cleveland native has spent making inscrutable techno for such labels as Peacefrog, Strictly Rhythm, Delsin, Tuning Spork, Klang Electronic, and more recently the Mobilee family, as well as his own Metamorphic Recordings imprint. But it’s also ingrained in Curtin’s tireless work ethic that finds him wholly interested in innovating his aesthetic, constantly pushing at the edges of timbre, tone and rhythm patterns to provide dedicated listeners with something new and ‘floor-worthy on each vinyl slab. So while few electronic dance producers write a single compelling longplayer, today sees the release of Curtin’s ninth, Lifeblood, on Mobilee. In anticipation of this achievement, we grabbed Dan for LWE’s 49th exclusive podcast — an hour of “Dirtysexxxy” house and techno, as he put it. Mr Curtin was also generous enough to answer a few of our questions about how his surroundings have impacted his sound, the importance of hip-hop, and his tireless thirst for sonic innovation.

01. Hakim Murphy, “Jupiter Poop” [Metamorphic Recordings]
02. Planetary, “Entanglement” [Metamorphic Recordings]
03. Matthew Dear & Seth Troxler, “Hurt” [Spectral Sound]
04. Darkstar, “Aidy’s Girl Is A Computer” (Kyle Hall Oats B So Deep Remix) [Hyperdub]
05. GummiHz, “Love Call” [Mobilee]
06. Orlando Voorn, “Beat It Up” [Divine Records]
07. Moodymann, “I Can’t Kick This Feeling When It Hits” (Mop Remix)
[MPT Recordings]
08. Outhere Brothers, “Let Me Be The One” [Fieldzz Discos]
09. KZR, “Untitled” [NDATL Muzik]
10. Moodymann, “Bitch Wanna Ride My Dick” (Mop Remix) [MPT Recordings]
11. Dan Curtin, “Mr. Bean Do An E” [Mobilee]
12. Ed Davenport, “Life in The Balance” [Vidab]
13. Kyle Hall, “I <3 Dr. Girlfriend” [Wild Oats]

It's commercial crap!

It never finds a groove and is just made by people who lack imagination and creativeness.

That's a bit harsh mate. Angello, Ingrosso and Axwell are three DJs that have produced and remixed several of great tunes over the years at least IMO. Commercial I'd agree with and I understand your argument but I still think it's a good song  :wave

??? Why do you think it's shit?

sorry that was an unconstructive comment written after a few glasses of redders.

from where i'm sitting - and this kind of stuff won't get my up and dancing - this is main room, commercial club house.

i've commissioned videos for it for ministry of sound and while it might sound great on your holidays i'm not sure it bears much scrutiny.

but of course this is just a personal taste thing.

i like deeper music and i started this thread to contrast with the other dance music strand on here but of course things grow and change.

why do you like it compared to some of the other stuff posted on here?

Christ forgot about this thread. Sorry I never replied to your post, Hass! Thanks for the Jamie Jones set. I was supposed to make it to Plastic People but never got there for some reason or another.

I suppose I better contribute something...

A Sebo K set from back in 2008 I've been listening to a lot recently:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/g48ea1

And a tune from back in the day. Admittably it's before my time but it's a great bit of dub techno - there's something quite timeless about it.

welcome back big man and those are two quality posts.

on the maurizio tip this is definitely 'my era'.

i just found out my mate carsten was his pa in the early 90s and the old dog is a bit of a dandy.

hand painted silk cravats from saville row were the order of the day.

i remember paul corey showing me how different his records sounded between 33 (reggae) and 45 (techno).

http://machinesarefunky.blogspot.com/

literally a genius and someone i'd love to hear play some records.

does anyone know if he ever plays out or can we track him down for a set at fabric and/or an after party of our choice?

Might have to check this out on Sunday.

http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?155876

Donnacha Costello is raw, meaty techno but you've got Will Saul there also for some slick grooves. Nice little combo! I first discovered Will Saul in The End. Oh how I miss that club.

A Donnacha Costello mix if anyone's interested...

lazarus is a mate of mine and i've seen him play a lot over the past 5 years.  sometimes hard to believe he and his now ex-mrs zoe did a seminal drum and bass night called pm scientists back in the 90s.  when he's good he's awesome: clicking insect lsd music that disturbs and entertains in equal measure i think he's at his best at after parties when he can really... i was going to say 'let his hair down' but perhaps that is a little unfair.

personally i've never been a massive fan of the end as - sorry but i'm very old  - there was never any wear to plot up and its also very hard to smoke weed in there.  still i've had some great nights out with matthew and layo.  they used to do these 'too much music' parties before layo opened the end with mr c and his dad.  deep, tracky new york shizzle slightly pitched up.  it became a sort of blue print for the wiggle sound of eddy richards and terry franics before the former went fully techno and terry moved to fabric.

can't check your links at the moment as i'm at the mrs flat as we sort out our move but will saul is top drawer and i also like a party were you can get a bit of variety in there.  the dc-10 opening and closing party last year (they did a one off in october) was a good example of that though the italians went a bit hard too early for me - absolutely banging the fuck out of it from 1am doesn't leave you with very much room to manoeuvre.  that said clive henry; jamie jones; dyed soundorom and villalobos all rocked the bells at least for the hassinator.

i went to a private after party with jamie afterwards and he actually dropped 'everything she wants' by wham about lunchtime the day after.  its hard to describe just how amazing the moment was but that might be something to do with everyone wearing those kigu animal costumes and simultaneously hitting the nitrous balloons ;D

Wow that's strong, Hass. I fear your beats knowledge is a bit beyond mine!

Unfortunately whenever I've seen Will Saul he's either been on warm up duty or tucked away in another room when the headline DJ is on. I'd love to see him properly let loose. He just gets into such a nice groove.

I know what you mean about the 1am thing. That's why I love seeing Ricardo at Fabric. He generally doesn't get on until 4/5. It's perfect. Shame it's always fucking heaving. He really pulls in a crowd, I don't think he plays anywhere else in London, no?

Massively impressed with that Jamie Jones set. I'm about an hour in and I'm rocking!
