What a man.

Had an impact on so many people.
No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.

I'm devastated by this. I was awake late last night listening to Blackstar. Playing with this http://supbowie.com/ Then I woke up a few hours later to the news.
He was the very pinnacle of human creativity a source of boundless imagination and wonder. He was my most revered musician since I was 7, around the time that Heroes was first released.
It's always been an idea of wonderment to me that we are all made of stardust. The vast expanse of the universe created by the material of infinite supernovas. Well David Bowie had more stardust than most and he used it for the most incandescent, fearless and inspirational beauty. I feel shocked, inconsolable right now but I know this supernova will shine brightly to all for a very long time.

He's an icon that will be remembered like Buddy Holly, Elvis, Lennon and Freddie Mercury. Some stars shine very brightly and he was one of the few that did.

Shocking and Tragic News,

The word 'Legend' is chronically overused today but never has it been used so correctly,

His impact on music, fashion and British culture cannot be overstated.

Genius,

RIP

What a superstar. Up there with the very, very best. Freddy Mercury and David Bowie RIP as you were so brilliant.

For any of the younger generation who didn't know his music, then go and listen to it. Such a talent and so many fantastic works.

RIP David.

Worst Monday Ever.

RIP one of the best musicians of his generation, absolutely iconic  :'(

So many people at work wondering why I am actually gutted "and he was before your time" (I'm 29 so not really) but he just inspired, he was a good guy and his music was incredible.

Fucks sake, all the good ones going, going to be left with Justin Bieber and Ke$ha and that lot on Earth, FML.

Shocking news  :'( Gutted to hear this.
One of the pillars of rock and roll whose shoulders carry those who have and will come after.
Even his strangest and worst ideas had the air of genius.
There never was and never will be another Bowie - an absolute original.

Everyone knows the stuff from Ziggy onwards so I thought I'd post this one from his second album, released later as Space Oddity. Has some of my favourite early Bowie tracks: Cygnet Committee, Janine, Letter to Hermione, Wild-eyed Boy from Freecloud, Memory of a Free festival, Unwashed & Somewhat Slightly Dazed and of course Space Oddity...

I've always loved this track:

What an amazing artist and what a massive loss to music and life in general.

No one beats Bowie for influence, output and sheer scope of musical and artistic expression. A one man movement, a complete one off and an immortal.

Oddly, as I drove home last night listeing to the radio the last thing I heard before going to bed was 'Heroes'. It got me thinking how much he had left and what would the reaction to his death be like having watched some of Lemmy's memorial service last night.

Admiration for Nina Simone led to the cover of 'Wild is the Wind' on the Station to Station album, which Bowie also used to open his fabulous 2000 Glastonbury set.

Terrible news of a Monday morning. I admire Bowie and really enjoy a lot of his songs but I wouldn't say I was a massive fan. However, practically every artist/band that I love the most cite Bowie as a major influence which says it all really. He must be right there with the Beatles as the most influential ever when you look at the greats since the 80s and recognise that pretty much all of them would call Bowie a hero of theirs. Velvet Underground would have to be up there as well.

I've got a few of his records in my collection because I really wanted to love his music as much as some of my heroes do. I'll be sticking them on later on when I get home from work.
