Neil Lennon was at Crewe too, an incredible attacking midfielder on an early version of Championship Manager.

Dele Adebola too used to score a lot (when they were League One maybe). Wasn’t Murphy’s last game for them the Play Off Final win that must have sent them up to the Championship.
He did and he was sold for around £3m when that was big money in the 90s. I believe that was Murphy’s last game before he returned on loan in 99/00 I think. I remember his loan spell better as I was very young when he first was at the club and all I cared about at that age was Liverpool and Michael Owen. I know how to pick ‘em.

Great to see Stevenage turn Villa over tonight, two horrible clubs.

Fromola, that late 90s/ early 2000s Crewe is probably the best side they’ve ever had. My grandparents lived in a small town nearby, Nantwich, so when visiting I’d always go with my Grandad to Crewe and still have a soft spot as a result. That side likely had Dean Ashton, Rob Hulse, Kenny Lunt, Craig Hignett and maybe Murphy on loan from the Reds. In 98 they finished just 6 points off the play offs for the Premier League. Murphy is a bad dickhead as a pundit but I’m less harsh on him than most Liverpool fans because I remember him as the best player Crewe ever had, not for his boring takes.

Small world as I've lived in Nantwich since 1995 - and played in the same Alex youth team as Dean Ashton, who actually started out as a centre back as he was a big lad for his age.

Indeed, my Grandparents lived in Wybunbury, just easier to say Nantwich as it’s a small village. I go back a couple of times a year as I have fond memories of Wybunbury Moss and The Swan in the village centre. My Ma lives just down the road from there in Betley, Scouse accent sticks out like a sore thumb! Beautiful part of the country there.

I bet Ashton was a cracking player at a young age. He’s still considered the most talented player to ever come out of the academy, other than maybe Nick Powell who is/was equally injury prone. Would that have been the same team with Rob Hulse in it? Less talented than Ashton but maximised himself better.

Not surprising is it? His personality didn't exactly scream managerial material. Leicester defence also only worsened whilst he was there.

It is shocking that only three deals went through from Premier League clubs buying from Championship clubs. It shows how depressingly the "big" transfers have become the be all and end all of football. I don't even know how a lot of these clubs will survive and it's totally depressing for football generally.

I think the Championship is bad this season but what Kompany has done is amazing. Completely turned over the squad and playing style and trampled all over the league. You’d have to say Guardiola could end up having one of the finest coaching trees ever seen.

I see Bolton have a new sponsor for the stadium, it's now called Toughsheet Community Stadium. cue the jokes. :lmao

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-64704208

Bolton Wanderers stadium's new "tongue in cheek" name has been a hard one for fans to ignore, prompting chuckles and disbelief in equal measure.

The club have announced they are delighted to have agreed a deal with local building manufacturer Toughsheet.

It means the League One side will be playing at the Toughsheet Community Stadium for the next five years.

It was bad last season but Fulham were a cut above and have carried that over. Burnley a cut above this year but they're dogging a lot of results out, Fulham were smashing 6s and 7s past teams. They might do okay though next season depending on how good Kompany is.

I'm surprised Bournemouth have made a fist of it because they were nothing special last season and were almost caught by Forest who were 20 odd points behind them at one point. Forest basically bought a whole new squad.

I think Sheff United if they come up would be more like the team that went down in their second season than the one who stormed the league in the first season. Middlesbrough are like the Forest of last season and it would probably be best if they were the three that went up.

The likes of Blackburn, Luton and Norwich (again) currently in the play offs would be useless.

One point Wilder's going to be their manager for the next month. He's had a bit of a fall from grace since mouthing off at Klopp. Was awful at Boro and had one of the worst runs in PL history with Sheff U.

Kompany deserves all the plaudits. It goes without saying, they have the biggest budget in the league, but they sold 20 players, brought in a few unknowns and built a team that played some of the best football in England this season.
