The thing is bloody enourmous..... Hadn't appreciated its scale from the plans.

With the academy housed in other buildings, the firsts and U23's are going to be knocking around inside that.

They expanded the original design but it does look impressive. Bear in mind also that the building in the video does not include the full size indoor pitch. That is being constructed over one of the existing pitches near to the original academy buildings... they will be retaining also the existing indoor pitch which is not full size but considerably larger than that at Melwood. It should all be grand when finished.

Anyone have an idea how this compares to Spurs's recent new training ground of Citys?

I mean we're the best but were the other two larger or more ambitious etc?

I think Spurs includes a hotel/rooms for the team before home games, but think it’s a bit smaller. We certainly had space to do rooms if we wanted but guessed we preferred to do whatever it is we currently do before games.

City have a bit of a ridiculous complex, but then they’ve used it as a foothold into further property investment and to get the council on side for those so...

Spurs and City's complexes are really really nice and I doubt ours will fall behind maybe it won't match the scale of City's as they had so much land afforded to them but in quality and staffing and facilities available to the players I doubt it will be anything but top tier.

Liverpool FC has confirmed that affordable housing provider Torus has acquired the club's Melwood training ground site in West Derby.

A charitable, not-for-profit trust, Torus is well established with 1,600 homes in the West Derby area and manages around 40,000 social homes across the north west, creating sustainable and thriving communities.

Torus will be developing its plans for the Melwood site and will be consulting with the local community to gain feedback from residents and local businesses.

In 2017, LFC secured planning consent for a proposed redevelopment of the club’s existing training ground at Melwood, as part of plans to invest in a new, best-in-class training facility for the first team and Academy sides at Kirkby.

Throughout the tender process, Torus was identified as the best socially responsible housing developer to take over the Melwood site.

Work on the new training ground at Kirkby started in summer 2018 and is expected to be completed in summer 2020. The first team will start the 2020-21 season from their new home in Kirkby.

Andy Hughes, executive vice president, operations and finance at Liverpool FC, said: “Today marks another significant milestone in this hugely important and ambitious project.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sale of the Melwood site having played such a significant role in the club’s history. But the site is limited in terms of space and is unable to accommodate the club’s ambitions for a new first-class combined training facility.

“It’s over two years since we started this journey and we’d like to thank everyone who has been involved, particularly local residents in West Derby for their feedback and patience during this tender process.

“All funds from the sale of the Melwood site will be reinvested back into the first-team squad and the state-of-the-art training centre at the new Kirkby site.”

Liverpool FC and Torus recognise that Melwood has played an important role in the club’s history and will be working together with local residents to ensure the Melwood legacy lives on as part of the future plans.

Chris Bowen, managing director of Torus Developments, said: “With more than 1,600 homes in the area, we’re already a long-standing part of the West Derby community, so being selected to develop this site at the heart of the neighbourhood means a great deal to us.

“Consultation with local residents is very important to us and we look forward to meeting with the community in due course. We will also be working closely with LFC to ensure the legacy of this incredibly historical site is a theme throughout.

“Our plans are still at an early stage but will be driven by providing quality affordable homes that address local need, including specialist housing provision where older people and those with additional care needs can lead sociable, fulfilling and independent lives.”

Think the price mentioned seems about £10m which will go towards the new Kirkby site

It is sad but I guess if this is to make our great club even greater then we have to move forward.

Looks very impressive so far.

Yep very good video, great to get a sneak peak into how the construction is going. When the new complex is ready it is really going to move our club to another level in terms of training and development.

The main building is pretty big isn't it.

Looks fantastic.

I make that 2 full sized pitches at Melwood and a smaller area. New place will have 11 grass pitches, an outdoor all weather and an indoor pitch.

Bigger / better is all about ego.

Does it provide everything required to allow Klopp, his coaching staff, and his background team to prepare the squad to the level required is what it should be judged on.

Cheers for posting those pics Craig, never seen the aerial of Melwood before, could see where some rellys used to live on Melwood Drive  :D

Even though I knew the layout, I cant believe how small it is compared withe the new place. Good to see the indoor facility. Klopp will like that when it's windy. Will it be astro or will they try and grow turf under lights? - no clue what's possible these days.

If they do the Anny Rd, the Main plus the new shop, plus Kirkby will be some significant infrastructure investment.
