people seem to be happy that Flanno is captain, which i dont understand, he is local lad and is steady getting back to form and is good reliable player but is he captain material?
isnt he still very young? inexperienced? My choice would be CAN, Coutinho...  unless this is 1 match special?

Ironically, I remember people saying similar things about Stevie when he was given the armband.  There were a lot of better options in that team than there are in this one.

Flanno is local, a supporter of the club, tough as nails on the pitch, seems to conduct himself very well off it and is reliable. As well as being a good player and young enough for his position to get even better. I have a preference for defenders to be captains as well to be honest.Ticks a lot of boxes as far as I'm concerned.

Local lad or not, that was an absolutely shocking second half performance from him. hopefully he'll learn from it.

Poor again today but he's still very early into his comeback.

It will be next season before he gets back to his previous level.

What did he do that was so bad?

The first was a loose touch after a shit ball from Emre.

He was easily overshadowed by the calamitous Skrtel.

Looked way off the pace today but too many times he was receiving the ball with zero options available.

In our title challenging season he was the most dribbled past fullback in the league.  No surprises really all their good attacks came down his side, and unlike Moreno he hasnt got the pace try correct his mistakes.

Hes a good squad player though, but Clyne as a defender is so much better.

He had a really bad game and was at fault for the first goal.

I don't believe it's two faced to say that.

A bit daft from Klopp to give him the armband too.

Didn't think he did anything particularly bad today, he was sold short on a pass in the lead up to their first. Maybe in hindsight he should've just hoofed it clear.

If we win the game then everyone's saying how great he is and how happy they are for him.

Flanagan is an excellent bellwether of our defensive cohesion.  His physical shortcomings mean he plays with very little margin for error in his positioning/predicting play.  Thankfully that is far and away his strong suit, so when there is a reasonable amount of space for him to cover because he's got a clear role in a unit he looks tremendous, and you don't see him getting run ragged.

But the perfect storm created by Skrtel/Mane being introduced meant all the sudden he was up against a physical specimen and he felt responsible for twice the geography.  That, coupled with being fed a couple tough passes in a congested midfield (at least partially occurring because others were trying to avoid using Skrtel, I'd imagine) and he had one of his bad games.

There is a strong argument against him ever being first choice in our team simply because a bad game can be so bad for a player with his physical limitations once his game becomes a series of physical contests, but you have to feel for a player who can look so classy around defenders on the same wavelength.

Makes you wish he'd been around in the early/mid 2000's to plug into those units.  Or that Klopp is currently building a new one.
And if you can do it all with a proud boner, then why the hell not?

I didn't see the game (listened on the radio)  but when you go from 0-2 to 3-2 none of the players have covered themselves in glory , no need to single him out

One less than great game in a handful after nearly two years out injured and he gets nonsense like this:

Lets face it. The scouse lad ain't that good.

Not that I thought he was particularly bad today, he struggled in the second half but the whole team went to pieces around him.  If he and Clyne are starting together then personally I would prefer them playing on the opposite sides to where they were today but I wouldn't single out either for criticism over what happened today.

Is that comment really that much of disgrace? Putting todays game aside I don’t think he’s much better than our other options and JK may want to upgrade in the full back positions in transfer windows to come. So unless he improves massively as a player he’s opportunities will be limited to a squad option rather than first team regular.

He wasn't the worst player on the pitch by a long stretch.

It wasn't his best game today but I don't remember him being particularly bad.

Playing alongside Skrtel today will make anyone look a bit wobbly.

I bet he was proud as punch leading the team out and getting the new contract, shame we didn't win, but there will be other victories.

He'll improve. No doubt. Armband? Good experience for him, but I don't think he's captain material at the moment. First he needs to establish himself as a regular and IMO the captain should be one of the leading players in the side. Have no problem with the decision to let him lead the side today. Everyone should lead by example out there. It's not unique for the player with an armband.

I think it was a one off. A confidence boost after the new contract, when Henderson, Milner and Lucas were all out.

What's wrong with his comment?

If we want to be a team challenging for trophies then we can do much better than Flanno in the first 11.
Shut the fuck up and put some respek on Lucas name playboy
