Falling heavy again now in liverpool :D
ITs so lovely

shame its not really settling, although Wavertree park looks good.  It's pathetic really, I'm 21 years old, have a degree to do, with a big assignment in for tomorrow, yet all i can excited about is the fact that theres some white stuff falling out the sky.

Its crazy how London grinds to a halt after a few cms of snow. Even Heathrow lost both runways until now!

I briefly went out in it this morning before deciding to stay home, and it's pretty deep, went halfway up my calf.

Still coming down now.

last night:

now:

Heard it's gonna snow for the rest of today then ice up tomorrow, really don't want to go to work if it's all icy :(

I'm sorry, but you really need to go somewhere where it's snowing regularly for some practice. Or was it inspired by the Man Who Looks Like a Thumb?

LOL at the news before. Couple of Londoners come on to be interviewed:

Lady: There's no buses, no taxis, no trains, we're all just stranded - there's nowhere to go, and no transport.
Fella: It's ridiculous, couple of feet of snow and it's like a third world country here

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson: I think we've done brilliant.

This morning before my extra long, slow and mostly sideways drive to work, i took a couple of photos of the snow, pretty, but a pain in the arse when you are expected to get into work no matter what and no one understands quite how 'out in the sticks' we actually live!

Ok...I know our society is built around weather like this and that your country is not...but seeing the news about everything shutting down because a bit of snow I couldn't help but to laugh a bit. That's what us Icelanders call "mild weather" during this time of year.

But like I said...we have isolated houses (pretty much all of them are), cars built for the weather, road service system that takes care of this instantly and a population of people who've grown up dealing with this.

Same here.  In the relatively "mild" part of Canada where I live, we had close to 150cm of snow between mid-November and January. And we have at least two months of snowy weather left. But they again having insulated homes and the equipment to deal with this (snow shovels, snow ploughs, snow blowers and snow removal trucks) certainly makes winters easier.

Don't forget snow tires, would be pointless buying them in England though.
Only snows a couple of times a year if that in some parts.

Is it worth it though?

Just plucked this from the BBC site

'The Federation of Small Businesses has estimated that each day of disruption will cost the economy about £1.2bn.

It estimated that on Monday, almost 6.5m people - a fifth of Britain's workforce - took the day off work as a result of the weather. '

So on Monday, what % of the workforce was off? 25-30% We're looking at about £350m costs for today. Is implementing an infrastructure that prevents all the disruptions all year round cheaper? Wouldn't think so...

You're right. In Britains case I wouldn't think It'd be worth it. In our case...inevitable.
